The song was originally written and sung from the perspective of a woman who had to return to the brothel for lack of options and other opportunities. Bob Dylan’s version is from a woman’s perspective. The Animals changed it around (“it’s been the ruin of many a poor BOY”) and made it an absolute classic.

Loved this song, summer of 1964 was my last good innocent year. In December 7 of my dear cousins perished in a fire which was arson committed by their father while drunk. It was sad, I always thought The House of the Rising Sun was the penitentiary. Now, after reading the lyrics, I realize it was an after-hours gambling joint! This song still resonates deeply within my soul and brings tears to my eyes that refuse to stream down my cheeks! This old music keeps me going.

It should exist! You should write a script and send it to Stephen Spielberg!! I'm a writer. I'd edit and stuff for you. It's one hell of an idea and these days it seems writers can't come up with original ideas. Always copying old classics and revamping them to pure crap. This is a gangster western. Someone I think should be the lead role during his grown-up days? Sam Elliott or Timothy Olyphant. During his childhood days? Maybe Shia LaBeouf. Couldn't think of anyone else. Do it! What's the worst that could happen? They steal your idea and don't give you credit. That would suck. So get it copywritten!

We don’t ask for forgiveness to be forgiven becuase when we put our faith in Jesus Christ we are accepting his grace and by his grace we are saved and his grace covers all of our sins and if you are asking for forgiveness to be forgiven you are atoning for your own sins and not trusting that Jesus already did that and if you are doing that your not having true faith.so it’s important to know you don’t need to ask for forgiveness to be forgiven because by his grace all of our sin are covered and through our true faith which includes a relationship with him we receive his grace. In order to be saved you must have true faith in Jesus Christ through that we also know the father and through our faith in Christ we receive his grace and by his grace we are saved and because of what he did for us we can receive his grace When we know Jesus we also have the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

If you’re wondering, the reason a bunch of the lyrics are wrong is because there are a dozen different evolutions of the song with slightly different lyrics and the creator accidentally put the wrong set of lyrics on the animals version.

The Animals version was more than just a wrong set because the lyrics was about a boy who follow his gambling father steps and all of the lyrics makes sense (and wrong lyrics always doesn't make sense), while the original version was about a girl who became a worker in a br*thel

As much as I love The Animals and this song, this is not my favorite version. But instead, due to the raspy, raw vocal delivery and the simple, hypnotically engaging and dark acoustic guiitar, I can't help but close my eyes, squeeze them shut and strain my muscles and my jaw and tighten every part of my body, sometimes producing a flood of tears that are only conjured in moments of true beauty, passion, creativity and wonder. And for me, as if my opinion matters to any of you strangers, Bob Dylan's rendition is THE definitive version in my life. Recorded when Dylan was only 19 years old, it truly haunts me in the most overwhelmingly beautiful way possible!

Not so sure this song is about gambling in the sense people think it is. The House of the Rising Sun was a brothel in New Orleans. The house had ruined many a poor boy’s lives. He lived in sin & misery. His dad was only satisfied when he was drunk & had his suitcase. He was going to stay the night and he showed his son his ways and now it’s got him hooked, hence the ball & chain. 😅 But either way, great song.

Still, that’s what you get when you’re a hard-working working class man who loves within an hour’s drive of two of the most prominent casinos in the USA, if not the world. My mom got this keyboard from the 1990s and one of it's little preset song thingys is called House of the Rising Sun and it's number 4 and I've always loved it. I recently found this song and i'm pretty sure the keyboard version can be played with the original and they go together. I'm going to check if they do line up sometime.

Remember the keyboard as it was on high school music class keyboard lol. First heard the song on episode of heartbeat tho. Loved it ever since
