Mick I like what you said about Cows, I'm a 82 year old and a Ohio 50's Farm Boy, I let everyone know I love Cows. Every words you said are very true. A Farm is a great/best place to raise kids. I do get a great feeling when I see a farmers Daughter also dedicate herself to the Farm, a Family Farm has always been what America is all about.

A good dairy stock cow gives good milk and cream. It was always good having plenty of milk when we growing up. With milk you'll have cream, which we made our own butter. Milking was another chore that we had on the ranch, but it was worth it.

Great videos, well put together, informative and they move along well. We will start watching more of your videos. Which broadcast company did you work for? I worked for Jacor and then Clear Channel for about five years, but that was about 20 years ago. Jacor was a neat company to work for, not too big but just right and it had some very interesting people. The big broadcasters were too busy chasing the dollar to be fun so it was time to move on for us as well.

I'm new to your channels I want to stop by and introduce myself my name is Ernest I currently live in Florida but I grew up in New Mexico when I was a kid in the late 50s and into the 60s dad was a cowhand for my grandfather on my mother's side they were cattle people had been and most of them still are and believe me I remember growing up with all them cows living out in the country we only made it to town about once a month sometimes twiced we were homeschooled I have one brother and five sisters when we were old enough for you chat on or horse to ride we had a one room brick House with kitchen out the side door they were separate no electricity not until towards the endwhen my dad had enough and we packed up and moved to Floridabut in my young teenage years me and my brother started to get bored and we lived out by cape Kennedy away from town at 20 acres 5 acres right in the center there was cleared with a house with lots of open land so we talked to my dad in the building us a barn and getting us some chickens and it all started from there we started out with 300 chickens play my brother phantom took care of them until they started laying and then we sold the eggs and then we sold chickens to pay my dad back for all the money it spent on purchasing the chickens the barn and the feed then after that me and my brother got to keep all the profit we bought everything from cows towing out of gator they're putting our local pond because we didn't have one and the ducks needed something to keep them out of the water I love you Channel it brings back a lot of memories can't wait to see more God bless stay safe

I've worked with all the animals you've got on your farm and I have to say that the one you don't have, but is related to the Peacock are Guinea Fowl. And to be blunt, the sound of those things drives me nuts. Many people don't realize it, but Guinea Fowl can fly and I used to regularly see them up in the trees around the 4-H Camp Farm I grew up going to and working on. Chickens can fly, but not typically the domesticated kind. I'll take horses and cattle any day. They may be big, and can kick you and kill you, but I still like working with them. Pigs I can also live without. They are cute when little, but can be challenging when they get big. The boars I've worked with were nice, but you had to be careful. Sheep and Goats do make life interesting. Different sheep breeds are cute. Goats can be especially fun. Geese, well, it depends on the kind of geese as these fellows aren't always so friendly.

So, as a city slicker who grew up in the middle of California - surrounded by farms and dairies, but having little contact with them...what's the difference between a cow and milk cow?
@OurWyomingLife6 жыл бұрын
Milk cows are raised soley for milk production, and usually ran by dairy operations. We are a beef operation, our cows are raised to produce calves which are then sold to feedlots. Thanks for watching - Mike

do you use the cows for milk and then for meat once they get old?
@OurWyomingLife7 жыл бұрын
All of our cows are beef cows, we dont milk any of them. The cows that we have are breeding stock, when they have calves, we raise their calves with their moms until they weigh about 500 lbs. Then they are sold at auction to people who raise them further.
@mwmwmwmwmmdw7 жыл бұрын
very interesting i wasent aware thats how they might work. do you sell them to people who raised them to old age or are they sold to be processed into meat?

My guess is they don't need them, and, being somewhat new to ranching, probably don't know their way around the back of a horse very well. Also looks like an extensive sorting/pen system, so no real need for horse and rope skills at cutting/branding time. :)

@OurWyomingLife7 жыл бұрын
We haven't really looked into it, there is a buffalo ranch about 30 miles from us and the infrastructure needed for buffalo is a lot different than cows. Well, maybe not different, but bigger. Fences need to be a lot taller and stronger, gates are huge. Corrals and all working facilities, including trailers and trucks to haul them have to be scaled up as well. Its doable but not for us on a large scale. Thanks! -Mike
