It's great that the women anointed the messiah to prepare him for the work that he had to do. This work the women did also undid what Eve did with the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil when she gave the fruit to Adam. The gospels recount similar events in which a woman wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair at the house of someone named Simon. John’s account speaks of Mary of Bethany and Luke talks of an unnamed sinful woman. This is why people sometimes think Mary of Bethany is the sinful woman. But Luke’s account differs significantly from the others and must be a separate event: Mary of Bethany: wiped Jesus' feet with her hair after anointing his feet and head with expensive nard at the house of Simon the leper in Bethany in Judea offending Judas Iscariot because of wastefulness at the end of Jesus' ministry in preparation for His burial Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:1-8 Unnamed "woman of the city who was a sinner" wiped Jesus' feet with her hair after anointing His feet with her tears and an unnamed ointment at the house of Simon the Pharisee in Galilee offending Simon the Pharisee who wouldn't let a sinful woman touch him at the start of Jesus' ministry as an illustration of Jesus' ability to forgive sins Luke 7:36-50 Additionally, Simon the leper and Simon the Pharisee cannot be the same person because a leper could not be a Pharisee.[1] While it might seem odd that both foot perfumings happened in the house of someone named Simon, that name was extremely popular in Jesus’ day: The New Testament lists about nine men named Simon, including two of Jesus’ disciples and one of his brothers.

Jesus Christ valued women, in a time when women were treated like chattels, or properties of their fathers, husbands and sons. Jesus Christ saw them as people created in the image of God. He died for their sins and human frailties, just as much as the men.

Good question. I am not aware of any story. Perhaps it’s one of those stories that never was recorded. Or perhaps these anointings were meant to all teach of him being the prophet, priest, and king with the simple act of being anointed.

@@dinocollins720 Good thought. The only thing I would see is that Jesus is the one who washed the feet, and it was not someone else who did it in the case of Jesus washing the feet of the apostles. That said, I am sure there is still some connection. Keep up thinking through things like that, that is how you gain new insights!

I think there's something about the greatest shall be the least and prophets being the greatest servant thing. JS washed the feet of the apostles and was introducing this as an ordnance. There's other evidence about this, the Kirtland temple, temple work, and the reference I mentioned in D&C. I'm wondering if there's a connection to prophets and washing of the feet. Might be more to this; its super interesting. There's lots of other connections to symbolism of Jesus being the prophet, priest, and king. More in F1heart youtube channel "A series of lectures on the evidences and criticisms of LDS truth claims." Specifically the temple ones.

This is a wonderful video, but why is it that "biblical scholars" NEVER mention this account in Luke 7 as well? The annointing of Jesus account occurs once in each gospel. Why do you all never include Luke's version?

I have recently sat down to study the "annointings" of Christ, and I realized that all of these biblical scholars who have studied the annointing accounts seem to always coincidentally leave off the Luke account when describing the annointings of Christ in His final week. I see you have made a separate video which is equally touching as this one is, and I am thankful for the work you are doing on this channel. I just find it strange and frustrating that this is a common mistake among "scholars." The Luke 7 account, different or not (I personally see it as one annointing which is told slightly different in each gospel account, much like other repeated/overlapped stories shared among the gospels) should certainly be included in with the other 3 accounts, as it is in the Bible. It's strange that this is such a common mistake.

IMO the Luke 7 account is the key account which connects them all as one single event, just described a little differently in each gospel. So it would make sense that scholars have often left out the Luke 7 account, because it really ties them all together, "different" as it may be.

I really enjoy these videos, but we don’t want to forget Jesus’s most significant anointing was from god. If I could be humble but bold enough to say being anointed by god now means you understand when you receive the Holy Ghost you are resurrected. John 11:25 I am the resurrection. If what I’m saying doesn’t make sense put it on a shelf and one day it may fall off that shelf and make sense.
