Hello! I hope you don’t mind me giving you advice, as someone who started learning Chinese a year and a bit ago,- the sooner you get comfortable reading and using characters, even if typing, the better! I used pinyin for the first few months and I believe it slowed my progress as things became harder to review/recall! The characters are not as scary as they seem, indeed they’re your friends when it comes to learning! But whatever works of course.

谢谢你分享你的思想！ A book on Daoism that I really love is “The Daoist Tradition: An Introduction” by Louis Komjathy. I appreciate its scholarly approach, recognition of diversity within the tradition, and its clear presentation. What I also appreciate is that it rejects the worn convention in Western scholarship praising the speculative and philosophical 道家 over the “superstitious” 道教, and shows how the two valences of Daoism are integrally linked.
