A nice tip for anyone who wants to play the Mycenaeans. If you have 4 scouts near your city, just disband them and raise them as levies with your special ability. The reason for that is that way they benefit from the exp bonus and start with 1 extra combat strength. So you will have a 4 stack of slightly stronger early units. However they can also be upgraded with the Fortification tech for free, so it actually scales really well. And ofc if you rush tech that upgrade the militia, you can have some decently strong early armies completely free of charge. :)

Brilliant game design by the Humankind developers! The big take-away here is that if you pick a militarist culture, you're committed to war for only 1/6 of the game. So if your natural style is scientific or industrial or influence, you can dabble in warfare and then switch to racing up the tech tree or outbuilding your opponents or influencing them to death. I know in Civ VI, I usually don't feel like a three-day, 20 hour grindfest, so I rarely play militaristic cultures. Humankind gives me the ability to start a run with violent, death-bringing war, then either stick with that if I'm having fun, or switch to a more civilized approach. Then I simply build my Science Quarters on the skulls of my defeated enemies (at which point I have my historians write me up as a refined, advanced, clean-handed, benevolent force for good).

Basically being Rome, they were terrible conquerors that subjugated and enslaved millions, yet they’re still seen as the civilized ones.

The cyclopean district is such a useful building for the early game and actually allows you to follow up with an Industry focused culture in the later Eras, and the hereditary bonus of the Myceneans is very powerful too, it stacks so much better than the Hittites' over time and the -20% production cost is great if you want to play say a culture focused on creating a few expensive units like Elephants from the Carthagineans, Maurya, Khmers, etc... Really a culture to look for when starting the game ! At 3:13 I think that Beowulf is one of the AI characters of the base vanilla game, better luck next time !

In one of my first play throughs I started next to an aggressive AI and picked the Mycenaeans incase of an surprise attack. We went to war and omg the unique unit was so powerful. It won me so many huge battles :)

Had a great idea for a Humankind mod in the future ... Game of Thrones (Humankind style). Tyrells = Agrarian Civ Lannister = Trade Civ Baratheon = Aesthete Civ Stark = Industrial Civ (might seem weird but one of the main characters in the Stark lineage was Bran the Builder who built the wall) Greyjoy = Military Civ Martell = Scientific Civ (also might seem a little odd but they did have some innovative ways of surviving in the desert with tech) I know there are trademark issues, but as a GoT fan I would love to see a Westeros map with all the major houses playing like civs in Humankind

Early on everyone jumped on Egyption bandwagon. Personally, I think most of the cultures are pretty balanced if played to their strengths.

So if the Cyclopean fortress acts as a Maker's quarter, further on in subsequent eras, they can act as "nuclei" for building more districts around them, wouldn't they?

In every game I've started, I find myself shoehorned into being aggressive. The AI is always hyper aggressive no matter Thier traits. In every game I find myself having to wipe them off my continent before I can really focus on other things, b/c if I stop making units they just pump out a ton and I have to stop everything anyways.

Pay special attention to what it says at the top when you meet them, if it says something like intimidated or friendly than your likely to get a NAP right away

I’ve had one really weird game where like 8 empires including myself were in complete harmony like we all shared a continent, we’re trading everything, had global alliances etc. It was SO boring everyone had huge cities in districts so I figured they must not have invested in military. I built mine up and I started a war to spice things up (I was the ghanas) I was wrong… they were either hiding troops or sacrificed population they ganged up and destroyed me so quick it was terrible haha

@@ishnu7988 My last game was like that. if you get on a running start and put yourself in between the right parties they'll never get angry at each other or go to war xD (until they reach around the other end of the round earth that is lol). But my last game was just 6, kudos to you on that one xD there's an acheivement for that and I just missed it :/ If you kept on without going to war that is :).
@Nakai_the_Wanderer3 жыл бұрын
Same. The AI grabs so much land and resources early on that war becomes a viable option in the first era. Better wipe them out before they can make use of those horses or that copper, that they have and you are missing.

Today is 9/29/2021, did they do a major tweak to the AI recently? Ive been playing constantly since the game came out but lately I cant get anywhere. I barely have one city and other peoples are expanding, ransacking my outpost etc etc. Meantime I cant build armies if I have no food and cant build food because I am being attacked all the time. I also notice on the games that go slightly better the AI is much more willing to start wars. I havent changed my difficulty setting at all.....

Just started 12 games in a row with all different AI combos, on an assortment of diff settings & world types, and 100% of the time the Myceneans were taken by turn 3. Kind of not worth bothering to learn if I'll never have a chance to choose this culture before the AI gobbles it up.

I'm playing Assyrians and their horse scout replacement is a first technology as well... Though it takes a horse resource. I just don't like popular choices lol that veterancy bonus is dumb when in a few eras that trait is a infrastructure.
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
Traits being infrastructures (lite) isn’t uncommon - in fact +1 combat strength is even easier to get because it’s one of the earliest civics!
@pdraggy3 жыл бұрын
@@JumboPixel true true... but than you've got two more power it's not something only Mycenae get. what I'm saying is with Hittites you have the potential to be stronger, you don't get that with Mycenae. With Hittite you CAN still get to 3 star but you'll still have your raw power as well but with Mycenae when you get to 3 star (which I'll grant is sooner) you will have one less power than a Hittite also at 3 star. I'll say in the end the question is would you rather get there faster or be better in the end? go for short term gains or long run? I've found that in these epic strat/ 4x games it's not always better to go for the long run than the Mycenae win out... BUT I think in this case it's not a HUGE perk, it's easy to get 1 veterency so I might go long term in this one. But that's just me. I like Assyrians more than both anyway xD.

Excellent video. Having one of my best runs at HK level with Mycenaeans. Dominating my continent. Unfortunately one of the AI from another continent seems to be having a runaway. I’m still Medieval and the leader has twice my fame and is two eras ahead and got the French. So much for trying to implement Collective Minds. 😉
@Wasserkaktus3 жыл бұрын
This is why I don't understand why you don't have the Myceneans on the top tier with the Harrapans and Egyptians: They are in fact every bit as good as those top two so long as you immediately start research on city defense and carpentry and begin spamming out Promachoi and Archers: No one else can bring out fully combat-ready armies to bear so quickly.
@pdraggy3 жыл бұрын
they are undoubtedly VERY strong in that single era... but the game doesn't end in the ancient era. for the long run you're better off with the Hittites imo.
@khoalb3 жыл бұрын
One thing I’ve noticed is that the Instant Resolution option can often win battles that you would otherwise lose if you have more numerical strength, but really bad positioning or weak individual units. I attacked a large, well defended city with 3 land units and a whole bunch of naval units that were in the battle zone, and therefore considered reinforcements, even though they couldn’t attack anything on land. Had I attacked manually, the land units would have been killed pretty quickly and the naval units would have been useless. Instant resolution just looked at the strength numbers and declared me the winner without taking into account fortifications or terrain. I’ve been able to do similar things where I have a bunch of really weak, damaged units against fewer strong, healthy units with the high ground.
@patrickhall62533 жыл бұрын
So not gonna lie I’m very dissatisfied that destroying a civ does not give you fame, killing a civ should forgive you era score imop.
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
You would get a lot from military stars first (assuming you’re fighting units), then expansionist and agrarian stars for getting new cities, territories and populations. The yields gained would also scale into other fame rewards like aesthete and merchant stars. PLUS the one-off fame rewards (deeds) for conquering, etc
