Madam Meouff well, we literally created capitalism. Thus, we are our downfall. Capitalism *would* work if it was run by all very good people. Obviously that kind of expectation is impossible, but that’s not the point. The point is that society is created by people, and our flaws are what prevent us from the ultimate civilization. If it wasn’t for the people running the companies, then the issue would not exist, as well as the people running an incentivized country with an economy that is meant to harbor such corruption. It works a lot like a gun or a digital program. They are not the bar people, they don’t have sentience, it is the person behind them that manipulate their abilities to cause pain and destruction. Of course, that means we must change the rules to suit the reality, but my point is *people* are ultimately to blame. If we as a society chose to make measures to prevent this, then things would be much better, but unfortunately, we never made those choices then, and now we suffer the consequences.
@ZombieNoodles134 жыл бұрын
Madam Meouff That’s not to say I think capitalism should stay, I agree that it’s a flawed system and should be changed. But my point is that humans made it, and we chose to ignore its issues, and now we face our consequences. Besides, if you watched their Bacteriophage video, it’s not like we can’t solve i

She even told me she knew why you're supposed to finish it, but told me that she didn't feel like it and she said the chances of her body breeding a superbug is very low. Many people think like that, that's why we have MDROs in the first place. Don't randomly take antibiotics unless you have to, and if you take them, finish all of it. Al Su I did a research when I was in university. Let's talk briefly about price, the organic (free-antibiotic) is roundly 40% higher than regular products. It's not hard to observe that in any local grocery store. People in society has been creating a 2 side paradox. In one side. they want "not too costly" products and in the other side, they encourage corps to get beautiful financial statement. However, somehow they figure out methods companies achieved 2 above goals, and now they want everything goes green. Not an easy task to balance things at all I concluded.

Antibiotic use for minor illnesses like common colds or viral fevers are a dangerous practice. It contributes to development of drug resistance, but some doctors prescribe them because they get benefits. Our teachers in med school warned us about prescribing antibiotics for minor ailments. Also, another practice that's causing drug resistance to build is people buying meds directly from pharmacies without consulting a doctor. It's a normal thing in my town and that worries me.

Anyway, pleasant dreams!

Considering that we pumped heavy-duty vancomycin directly into my mother's pick line while the doctor tried to pretend it wasn't the same stuff they give to cancer patients, and the infection STILL ate away most of the bone inside her leg .... ..... in 2004... and they waffled about the source/severity of said infection for a year before they bothered to listen to her and check to see if maybe she did have that fever she kept saying she had (you know, after three surgeries in a year from a car accident that broke said leg???) it is absolutely way too fuckin' late to stop either.

We avoided a nuclear war that by all logical means should have happened, the amount violence going on in the world has been slowly declining. Electric cars are becoming more common. THe UN exists. We landed on the moon. We have organizations dedicated to helping the needy with nothing to gain in return. Hunting has become a hobby for humans, we can provide food for almost everyone with a small percentage of people working in jobs involving the production of food, we have developed technology to the point where we can communicate from one side of the planet to the exact opposite within seconds. We've developed medicine to the point where we have to worry that we're accelerating the evolution of bacteria to unmanageable speeds. Which says a lot about us as a species. And you're going to be an edgelord, and say that humanity hasn't done anything well? It is not given freely to people who has minor colds and "need" to get back to work. It upsets me that our neighbour Denmark, and several other countries in Europe, so freely use antibiotics for animals as they do for humans. Should we really make the price of meat our priority instead of the survival of humanity? Get better standards for your livestock, and make the cause of use more strict, so the medicine is used as a last resort for our fellow human beings who actually need it. what else would you have them do? Do what the USA does? The video wasnt lying when they said that most livestock used for food are kept in terrible conditions...in USA, most cows kept for beef end up rarely seeing the light of day and are fed corn, which in their bodies helps boost the growth of E.Coli immensely, so they simply spray the meat down with ammonia, and wash it off afterwards as its processed.
@Dan-hr2lm8 жыл бұрын
Firstname Lastname You are right about everything you said except the part of cows not seeing the light of day.. Cows can typically only survive 90-120 days on a diet of strictly corn.. They are raised on the pasture (grass) until they are 6 months to 1 year, then they are usually sold at auction and transferred to a corn diet.. I think you were just thinking of chickens, which IMO are treated worse than cows.. Chickens never see the light of day, the only reason is if it's dark they will only move from there water to food and there breasts will be a lot bigger.

Also, one great thing is that antibiotics "go out of fashion" in the bacterial world. Meaning that after you stop using an antibiotic for a few years, it'll probably be as effective as it was before resistance was developed because the gene for resistance was dropped.
@WorthlessWinner8 жыл бұрын
Good point. Extra bits of DNA are costly. If there's no positive selection for an extra bit of DNA, it will be selected against and go away as quick as it appeared. So the problem of antibiotic resistance isn't going to be permanent.
@Jeonsaryu8 жыл бұрын
The main problem is surviving or avoiding these superbugs long enough for this to happen. While swapping from one type of antibiotic to another might work, there are superbugs that resist multiple types of antibiotics all at once, making their natural selection very hard to change.
@Ghi1028 жыл бұрын
Aaron Park Well, technically, antibiotics from 10 years ago should work on superbugs that we have today since it's been such a long time. I'm not an expert, but that's my understanding. Using older antibiotics and switching from the old ones to the ones we use currently that are resisted or having 2-3 antibiotics we can switch to periodically could make it work. A big problem is if you use a combination of old and new antibiotics (because of shortages or something), you'll get superbugs that resist both old and new antibiotics.
@Jeonsaryu8 жыл бұрын
Ghi102 I'm working towards a bio undergrad, so I'm not an expert either. I do know some things though: Yes, swapping between antibiotics after a handful of years is probably the best way to hinder most superbugs... But multiple-resistance superbugs would survive too, and the chances of their other resistance genes mutating into something useless is completely up to chance. It's sort of like humans and our appendixes. Despite being so useless to us now, we still have this tiny squiggly tube at the end of our large intestine, and this is the same for resistance genes in superbugs. These genes might mutate into something "useless" for a while, but the trait is still technically there. So if vegetarianism hits the world be storm, appendixes could mutate into something useful again in humans; if penicillin hits hospitals again after 5 years of probation, aged penicillin-resistance genes could mutate into a horrible advantage again.

Aaron Park I'm not an expert either (you probably have more formal education on the subject, what I know comes from podcasts and videos on the subject and some basic college bio courses) and I don't really disagree with you on most points. The thing is, with a bacteria's lifespan and high mutability, picking up or inheriting the gene that resisted an antibiotic that is no longer used against them should get diluted. I'm not sure if the effectiveness of switching antibiotics would decrease over time, but I think after a few years, enough of the bacteria with the resistant gene should not have the gene for it to be effective. We still would have the problem of bacteria with multiple resistances, but from what I've heard, antibiotic research evolves really rapidly because resistances are developed all the time by bacteria. There should be a backlog of antibiotic that we could use.
