I think the same, then taking it a step further, the "twist at the end" song isn't just the twist, but covers a variety of music styles that would have existed between 1925 and 1963. I feel like the Doctor tapped into the residual effect to fast track the different musical styles that didn't happen during this 18 year musical wilderness, thus resetting music to continue from 1963 onwards.

I think the song at the end is super important. The same actress has appeared in 4 different episodes of Who since RTD look over in unrelated minor speaking roles. She keeps showing up, and her name is Susan Twist. There is always a Twist in the end. I have heard the theory that The Doctor has been trapped in a TV show, hence the repeating actress, 4th wall breaking, and random musical number.

And 4's later revised look/scarf (and under protest, the first inclusion of "?" to the Doctor's Classic Era Wardrobe) Also responsible for several costumes for Blake's 7 too. Didn't realize that History until other reviewers pointed it out... Next time I rewatch the later part of Tom Baker's era I'll probably appreciate the Costuming Dept's work a lot more...

To me, it ties into the end of The Giggle. I think that defeating a member of the Pantheon gives the Doctor temporary powers in keeping with the Pantheon member theme. He defeated the Toymaker and could then claim his prize--a new TARDIS Then, he defeated the Maestro and was able to put on a song & dance number.

well, sort of. The Giggle starts on the tonic, so if we're talking C major, the Giggle is C E G C G E C while the Twist song is G there's, F# al-, G -ways, C a, E twist, E at, D the, C end. So it uses the same intervalic jumps upward (G C E). Giggle is an arpeggio in Root position, while Twist is sort of an apeggio but in 2nd inversion.

Important to note "The Twist at the end" is possibly the fact H. Arbinger is suddenly still ALIVE IN 1963 after seemingly "DYING" in 1925 🤯🤯 (Which is the same year the Toymaker was in Soho in "The Giggle") or it's IRL actress Susan Twist who has now appeared in 4 episodes as different characters getting a cast credit in the closing credits as "The Tea Lady" this time.. 🤔 Russell has really amped up the mystery boxes in RTD 2 She has now appeared in WBY, TCORR, SB & TDC I personally dislike musicals but the 4th wall breaking, winking at camera & dance numbers really do make me think we are going somewhere with this on purpose..🤔

So with the ending, about saying it "doesn't make sense", It makes sense, and that's the "twist" (ignoring the Susan twist thing, which is a valid thing) When the maestro was banished, all their power and stolen music was released into the world all at once. They were so immessurably powerful, also all the unreleased music from the future as well. So for a short time afterword all that power affected the world, everyone broke into music and dancing, and music could be made out of nonsensical things (like the crosswalk). It would've settled down after a while.

I don't know how many people realized it but the Toymaker also mentioned The One Who Waits, in that scene where they play the card games and the Toymaker wins and says he wants to play the next game in 2023. I actually felt like I heard that name so went back and watched the episode. And the Toymaker looked....scared . Edit: Also, about the musical number in the end, I personally like to think it's some sort of after effect of the Maestro leaving or a slight indication that something is still wrong. I mean we still see the Harbinger. And I'm not entirely sure but I THINK that "there's always a twist at the end" is sung in the Giggle tune.

The Doctor has been breaking the 4th wall for a long time, going back to the 4th or 5th Doctor, but up until the Pantheon he was the only one who did so. They keep hitting home that the Doctor was not from Galifrey but was found, specifically by a monument that housed a gateway to anther world. They've reiterated that the Time Lords all used titles for their names, which is what the Pantheon does. I think this is all leading up to a reveal that the Doctor is from the Pantheon. Perhaps he's what the One Who Waits is waiting for. Perhaps he is the One Who Waits. Also, Ruby's neighbor, who has lived next door to her as long as she can remember, broke the 4th wall as well, implying that she is also a part of the Pantheon. I wonder how they'll tie Susan into this. I feel like they're going to. Davies doesn't have characters mention things like that unless it's going to come up again.

I resonate with Adam. The moment that twist at the end happened, it killed the tone of this episode. A script is a recipe, even though cookies are sweet, adding salt in the right amounts makes it more balanced. Adding too much and you just spent all that time baking some really expensive spit. Whimsy is a beautiful thing, but this just felt way too on the nose…However, really interesting villain arch they are making. And to an extent, it fills almost lovecraftian.

I love musical numbers, and I think they're totally at home in Doctor Who... my issue is just that the song was terrible! This one and the Goblin king one from Christmas, both bad. It's such a shame. It's doubley sad because the choreography and the staging was wonderful. Watching it on mute is amazing 😅

The beings that are members of the pantheon of elder beings exist outside of our reality, they don’t acknowledge the fourth wall because to them it doesn’t exist, because reality is a thing made up by lesser beings, they have been trapped there and they can only get back in through means of being let in, the Toy Maker may have been let back in by the Master, he’s trapped somewhere because he lost their game, the music let the Maestro in and others are coming and they have something to do with Ruby. The Pantheon take names based on aspects from our reality that they have seen and feel an affinity for. The Doctor keeps saying he’s the last but he has a daughter, a granddaughter and the Master is still alive and he was married twice, once to Riversong and another time when his memory was locked away to a British woman, did they have kid(s) and Donna’s daughter has some of the doctor’s regen energy in her DNA. The Doctor has been to other dimensions, other realities, he sees things the same way the pantheon members do, which kind of makes me think that could the new unknown version of the Doctor have been the Lord Temporal and that’s why the Toy Maker actually has beef with the Doctor. The note that saved them is from A Day In the Life, the end note. I detest musicals so I get the feeling, it makes me super uncomfortable watching people sing when it’s not needed to know the story. The only one I’ve enjoyed is Buffy Once More With Feeling but that’s because…it’s Buffy 🤷🏽‍♂️
