One detail I like about the first scene between Ekko and jinx in the finale is that at first, jinx thinks he is imaginary like Silco, so she blows up. Then, when ekko makes it clear he is really there, jinx decides to fall to her death instead of hurting him too.

I feel like the only reason we didn't get an overt mention of Isha after her self-sacrifice was because the creators just tried to get far too much into the final arc, which does suck, but it happens. In one of the next scenes, Cait is looking at the project of the hexgate and there is a lot of vents Jinx could slip through, aswell as finding the head of her monkey bomb, but no dead body. And lastly, in the very last scene of this season, there is a zeppelin, which Jinx said in first episode of first season she's gonna ride one day

I think Maddie was always a spy. When we first meet Maddie, she was a "junior officer" which means she was a new recruit. Probably one of many new recruits to join after Jinx's attack. This leads me to believe she was planted by Ambessa to be an agent on the Enforcers for her. After all she was the first to pound her chest to encourage Cait to take power. This would mean then, that she took advantage of Cait's breakup with Vi to move in and get even closer to her, becoming Cait's right hand. Of course on the surface she acted like she was against Ambessa, with Ambessa likewise acting like she was annoyed by Maddie's presence, but that was likely a ploy to avoid suspicion (Ambessa is VERY cunning after all). As a note: look up the black and white flash frame as Maddie shoots Cait. You can see an evil grin on her face. Showing her true feelings.
@erinhaury57732 ай бұрын
Yeah, Maddie was a Noxian plant from the start. She was Ambessa's inside line to Cait, a way to keep tabs on her and give her a confidant to spill her secret plans to. Knowing about the heel turn makes it obvious on a rewatch as there were many clues to Maddie's deception.
@dargron76142 ай бұрын
It's a tough call whether Maddie was a spy or a turncoat. If she was a spy, then Ambessa was really playing the long game, since Maddie showed up before Caitlyn was even a blip on Ambessa's radar. It is possible though that Caitlyn wasn't the initial priority for Maddie, since Ambessa was initially driving to push for arming the Enforcers with Hextech, so she'd want someone inside the Enforcers to gain access to it. Ambessa was also really lucky not to lose Maddie in that initial memorial attack - you'd think she'd give her spy more warning to keep her asset out of the line of fire. It seems equally possible though that Maddie was simply an ambitious opportunist who just wanted to be first in line to suck up to Vi and Caitlyn to rise up through the ranks quickly, and it wasn't until Vi came back into the picture and Maddie saw her relationship threatened that Ambessa swooped in behind the scenes to recruit the jilted lover for her own ends (hell hath no fury than a woman scorned).

From what I understand the showrunners had 250 million allotted for them by Riot for up to 5 seasons, but rather than making those 5 with reasonably good quality,, they decided to do two mind-blowingly great seasons rather than risk dragging on too long and burning their team out. 3 more seasons after would be 9 more years of development, that's alot of commitment for Fortiche and Riot after already spending 9 on the 1st two seasons. End of the day, I would have loved more of this series but I can't fault their decision either.

The creator of arcane would "love to explore mor stories with Ekko and Jinx". That and all the Interviews + indications (shimmer blink before explosion, showing vents in the hexgates) means Jinx is alive. She still did "sacrifice" herself by disappearing and therefore breaking the circle.
@erinhaury57732 ай бұрын
The one thing to remember is that Arcane is basically the prequel to the rest of the Runeterra stories (in this adaptation specifically). I have a feeling we will see the major champions again in later shows, not as the focus of course, but as supplementary to the other stories. I find it highly unlikely that they would set so many of them up and then drop them altogether. I think this is a major part of why the season feels unresolved for so many people. With Noxus/Damacia/Ionia as the next focus, Mel will be a major player. The last act of Arcane sets us up for LeBlanc and Swain (the Black Rose and the three-eyed crows, respectively), both champions from LoL. Considering that Piltover/Zaun is on the southern edge of the same continent, it's very likely there will be crossover with some of the Piltie/Zaunite characters already established in Arcane, as well as allowing new champions from the cities to be introduced. Thanks for taking this journey with us! Be glad you didn't have to wait three years for S2. 😆

hi guys so i would very much apreciate some LoL players and ppl who in general know the lore to answer a few questions its very important to me to fully understand everything about this show since for some reason (and i cant really say why exactly) this show has impacted me emotionaly very deeply and i hope it will ease my mind to get more answers. im just gonna randomly ask whatever comes to mind, not in any order: 1.so we see ekko/heimerdinger teleport back to their original reality but after that teleport-scene, only ekko is part of the last 2 episodes, so where is heimerdinger? was he not one of the more important characters of this show? he was practicly gone from the story after that without a trace?! 2.we see ekko in the teleporter going back to his reality but the "original" ekko from the other reality stayed behind, as if ekko just inhabited that ekkos body for a while, right? but we didnt see the "original" heimerdinger in that teleporter room whenever heimerdinger teleports away, so what does that mean? didnt that other reality have a heimerdinger? 3.what exactly did the last 10~ seconds of episode 9 mean? when we see the airship flying away over the ocean? i read somewhere that there are clues that jinx might have survived? could this scene mean that she is "breaking the cycle" and is leaving the city on that airship (she said in episode 1 of season 1 "one day im gonna fly on one of those things") 4.what EXACTLY was viktor? i didnt fully grasp this...what sort of cosmic being did he turn into whenever we see him as some white ghostly figure floating in space? 5.what caused/what made it necessary for ske to "die" in the scene where viktor says "im gonna miss our talks" and she says "no you are not"? 6.if viktor mindcontrols everybody that was infused with the arcane and everyone snapped out of it as soon as viktor died and everybody was back in control over their own minds/bodies again, how can it be that vander was still "alive"? if he was still conscious and able to attack Vi, wouldnt those white constructs also be able to function normaly? 7.the alchemist in the end actually got his daughter back, as a like..."puppet version" aka. she looked like these white constructs only with her old face, is that what happened? did he bring her back from the dead? 8.so ultimately viktors plan was (and please excuse me but since english isnt my first language i didnt fully understand this) to end all violence among the people by mindcontroling everybody, foring them to be peaceful? 9.viktor has been the one who saved jayce and his mother, who exactly was "old viktor"? just ONE viktor from some other reality that withnessed the horrors the arcane can inflict on the world and saving jayce was his atempt to prevent it from happening? did old viktor travel across realities, saving jayce in every one of them, hoping that in the end jayce would come to understand the dangers of the arcane, wanting to stop it no mather what? --- please if you could, i know this is probably gonna be a long answer but give me a detailed answer on this one 10.why did jayce decide to kill himself/sacrifice himself with viktor? why was that necessary? was this some sort of "breaking the cycle" kind of moment for jayce? i didnt get that at all 11.the old lady that has an audience with ambessa and all of a sudden uses this black-rose witchery on her, was she actually a witch or was she just posessed by that black rose/chains mage who captured mel? did that mage just use her like a puppet, speaking through her? 12.i didnt really understand the whole deal with ambessa and mel, ambessa knew/suspected that mel was a mage and she wanted her powers for her goals? did she have her abducted in order to unlock her potential? and what exactly happened to her brother, did he get tortured by the black rose witch too and if so, why? 13.what do you think it meant when we see caithlyn at the "computer" looking at the blueprints for hextech (i believe the hexgate tower?) and other stuff? was she playing with the thought to keep using this technology? 14.when caithlyn asked Vi in the last moments of episode 9 "are you still in this fight", what did that mean? the fight was over, it seemed like (or id like to think) the piltover/undercity conflict was over or being resolved as a result of the events with viktor, so what did she mean with that question? 15.i know its probably a rather simple "butterfly effect" kind of thing but did i understand that right: in the reality where Vi died in the explosion in jayce's apartement, her death caused the "butterfly effect" that in turn meant that nothing bad happened afterwards? no arcane-experiments, no piltover vs. undercity tentions? --- i could understand that somehow Vi's death because of these hextech-orbs caused a thorough investigation that had jayce face a more severe punishment, he might have gone to prison and so he wouldnt have continued his experments and hextech never came to be, HOWEVER why did Vi's death also mean that the piltover/undercity conflict never errupted? it seemd that everybody lived in harmony and peace together, the bridge was permanently open to everyone to come and go between both sides of the city and it had little market stands over the entire bridge...?! silco at that time was already researching shimmer and soon after had the alchemist mass produce it, so why would Vi's death change his mind about hsi planed revolution? 16.why wasnt ekko immedeatly mindcontrolled like everybody else when viktor started to mindcontrol everyone? he even mindcontroled people that werent "infected" with the arcane like Vi and Jinx, which means it shouldnt have made a difference that ekko was still not infected/touched by those white constructs, shouldnt he have been mindcontroled aswell? why was he able to fly around still? 17. where vander and silco brothers? or did they just call each other "brother"? and was vi/powder's mom their sister? 18.what really was that colorful orb in the vault unter the hexgate tower? i didnt really get that...jayce said something about "we used arcane too much against its will" or something? a "wild rune" please explain this to me :x alright thats all i can think of at the moment appreciate your answers, this show really left me with a feeling of melancholy and sadness

Good news. Jinx is alive. You'll get a bunch of comments on this because it's been broadly figured out by the community, but there's 3 moments that show that the writer's clear intent that she lived and Vi is the one that's not supposed to know. In the explosion there's a pink shimmer streak along the pipes in the top right on the screen. It appears nowhere else in the explosion and it's Jinx's SFX. Vi rolls over to her back screaming before she can see the explosion. Then we see Cait looking at those same pipes, holding the recovered top of the monkey bomb-grenade as if they never found a body and she figured it out, followed by Vi humming Powder's song. Then in the final shot, we see not just *a* ship, but the exactly ship that Powder says she wants to ride in in episode 1, followed by a "the end" in typical Jinx style. The writers really want you to think about Jinx's outcome, and are basically begging everyone to look and figure it out, which many of us did. She walked away. There's a lot to say in that Vi was starting to burn out in all the fighting, and Jinx leaving is what ultimately thematically saves Vi. "You're never going to give up on me, are you?" "You don't have to worry about me anymore." Thankfully she leaves instead of blowing herself up, which she consistently thought was the answer to her story until the end. Vi not leaving the failing platform in hopes of saving Vander is Jinx's motivation to fake her death. That family needs to go before Vi destroys herself trying to save it. This is foreshadowed earlier the season with "destroy what's left of my family," in episode 2 of the season and probably in other places I haven't found yet. Aside from Isha, Ambessa, Maddie, and Loris being very dead and Jinx being alive, everyone else's deaths were made deliberately ambiguous, so I suspect they want them available in case they're needed in future Runeterra adventures that Riot's promised to produce as shows.

Isha is referenced in episode 8. Visually. Its not really like Vi or Jinx to make a big speech or monologue about her death. But the death is felt in the weight of Jinx's suicidal depression in Episode 8 and shown in flashes. As for the end. Arcane was always about the story of Jinx and Vi. That is definitively ended. Jinx broke the cycle, she is either dead or (more likely) faked her death to walk away as her "conversation" with Silco told her to do. That being said, Christian Lenke, the co-creator, said that this isn't an end to any of these characters stories necessarily, they are already a year into development on the follow up series. And there are 2 more in development. Each one focused on a different region, Noxus, Demacia and Ionia. I think the Noxian series is what they are already into development on as it would serve as a central jumping off point for both Ionia and Demacia. Many of the characters in Arcane have potentials roles to play, and I think many of the questions you have about characters may be revealed in time.

I feel the pacing of Season Two was really a case of Real Life Writes The Plot, and it really shows. With a budget of 250 million dollars, Arcane is one of the most expensive animated projects of all time - costing more than most Disney movies - with it funded almost entirely by Riot. Which is probably why they made two seasons a hard cap for the show, with instead plans for other shows that explore other regions and characters, as well as pushed for certain characters (Ambessa, Mel) and certain new designs (purchasable skins for the game) to be featured.

I don't agree that her intentions would be obvious to Vi. The conversation with Silco was in her head, but we got to see it. As far as Vi was concerned, her sister just played her. Even with the Silco conversation, he simply told her to walk away to break the cycle. Why would Vi assume she was going to end her life?

Singed gets away scot-free. You see, there's 2 types of people in the world. The people who will sacrifice what they love to save the world, and the people who will sacrifice the world to save what they love. That is exactly why Singed got what he wanted. He didn't care about what it would cost. He had one singular goal he set his mind to achieve. As for Jinx. She is not dead. Yes there's the obvious clues, but there's been an interview recently with Ella Prunell (Jinx), Hailee Steinfield (Vi) and Reed Lorenzo Shannon (Ekko), where them and the producers were asked questions. One of them was "Is Jinx actually dead?" Ella's response was "Ummmm.........we don't know. We're gonna leave that open to interpretation" But all the while she was hiding her face behind the question card, and was giggling. Almost like she was holding back something she was told not to reveal. With this, they pretty much confirmed that Jinx is still alive.

Thanks for an amazing reaction. We all want more and sadly the season is quite rushed. The main producer, Christian Linke, has also mentioned this. The show is still amazing though. Some thoughts/theories: - Heimerdinger is not dead, at least not if they are following the current lore. in that case, his race is basicly immortal and when they "die" they go back to their main city. - Jayce and Victor are probably dead. If my memory serves me well, Christian Linke has confirmed this in an interview. - Jinx - thats the main question and point of discussions. I dont think she is dead. Due to several in-show and out of show aspects. 1) If you go frame by frame at the explosion, you can see her iconic shimmer flash moving away from the explosion and towards the vents/hole in the building from her lair (the vents at another level). Some will say this is from the explosion, but it is straight and forward and there is only the one. 2) Her escape was possible because Vanders last humanity was used to let her go. A small part of him was still there symbolized by the flashback to putting Vi and Powder to bed. Since Powder was sleeping there, it was not her memory. Vanders disappeared when he blew out the candle. 3) Caitlyn sitting with a jinx bomb and looking at the pipes and vents of the building. She knew Jinx escaped. They probably did not find a body or parts of a body. (the oldest trick in the book - no body, no death). 4) The airship at the end - in episode one, one of Powders first lines was that one day she was gonna ride of those. 5) The jinx "The end". Out of the show, it is so expensive to create a scene, so the airship and especially the Caitlyn scene is a bit much for a dead character. Beside, Jinx is most likely the most popular and iconic character in the show, and for the broader audience the universe, so I really dont think they would kill her. Even the actress Ella Purnell said it was very open-ended and had to cover what could have been a laugh or smile. Who knows. Will that mean we will see Jinx again? Maybe not, but I think she will show up as a cameo or minor role in a coming show. People are speculating about some connections for the confirmed regions of the next show, but I will not go into that and risk spoil a show in two-three year (ugh, that wait). But again - thanks for reacting to the show - I really enjoy all your reactions :)

I've seen a couple of theory videos about Jinx possibly surviving. One showed a frame where a pinkish streak shot away from the explosion, and pointed out that Caitlin was looking at the schematics for the building and seeing that there were escape vents down at the bottom...also mentioning that her smile indicates that she believes Jinx got out through those. And of course, the ship at the end...Powder said at the beginning of the first season that one day she was gonna fly on one of those, and then we saw the "Jinx Glitch" as that was flying away. I like to believe that she did get away and is just taking some time for herself...

Dont know if they changed the lore as Arcane is now canon. But as it stands, Heimerdinger, who is a Yordle, cant die. Yordles are literally pure magic taken corporeal form, if they "die" they just "respawn" back in Bandle City, the Yordles home town.

I liked the 3rd act well enough, but I totally agree that I wanted more from the ending. I feel like act 3 should have been stretched to one more episode with more of an epilogue and that would have sufficed. I would have liked to see them working a bit towards restoring Zahn to what Ekko saw in the alternate timeline. I know we got the shot of Sevika on the council which is one step but I definitely felt like there should have been more. That said, the show overall was great and the animation is top tier in every episode so I really can't be too disappointed.

Just look at what they put onscreen: shimmer trail leading away from the explosion; Caitlyn holds a piece of exploded monkey-bomb, sees that there are passages from the core to the outside of the hexgates, smiles to herself; final shot of the whole-ass series is an airship like the one Powder said she would ride in one day; flash of "the end" is done in Jinxian style. I loved Season 1. It was a masterpiece, but Season 2, not so much. I didn't hate it, but it's a shadow of Season 1. Here are my complaints: 1.) The "Arcane" becomes the writers' "Deus Ex". It's never really explained. It just does WEIRD STUFF THE WRITERS NEED. And it does it a lot. Everything Viktor does, Echo's time travel, Jinx's explosions, dimensional travel, shimmer. Like, some of these are from S1, but they just keep adding on. It becomes so much that it becomes incoherent. 2.) The story line is unfocused and all over. Viktor's storyline feels like a weird jump for his character, going from "interested in curing himself and helping humanity" to "an all-powerful pseudo deity bent on controlling all of humanity to cure it." Even the way he wanders off from Jayce at the start is just weird and makes no sense. 3.) The non-linear story-telling, where we leave some characters for 3 episodes, then watch them engage in their alternate timelines/dimensions. It's disorienting and not in a good "they're telling this story in a creative way" sort of disorienting. It's just chaotic. 4.) Once Vikton's control is gone, why doesn't Vander return to his pre-Viktor (post-mutated) state, like everyone else does? 5.) The musical numbers in the first season punctuated really powerful moments, but in S2, they're over used. Each individually is still good, but they're relentless (especially in the first act). It starts feeling pretentious. 6.) The resolution is unfulfilling. You don't know what's going on at any given moment. There are no rules to any of this. We're Jayce and Viktor vaporized? I dunno. You can't know. The show never tells you anything and with the Arcane anything is possible (see: point 2). Honestly, I wasn't even clear what the fuck happened to Heimerdinger (or why). 7.) What the ever-loving crap was all that stuff with Mel? None of that made any sense to me. We never get a sense of what the "being" is, what mages actually are (are they like "mutants" from Marvel), or why there's a room with weird puzzle straight out of a video game as a prison? 8.) Jayce walking. Why does he just walk for an entire episode? It literally cuts to him walking about 5 times. Season 1 was nearly perfect, Season 2 wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but I honestly think people are just riding the high that was Season 1 and are (rightfully) in love with the animation. They lost the plot, literally and figuratively, with Season 2.
@noodle_fc2 ай бұрын
4. Vander's situation is way more complicated than any regular person being controlled. When Jayce shoots Herald Viktor, the work Viktor's been doing to restore his psyche is undone. Isha then sacrifices herself to kill Vander-Warwick. Next, Singed does something that revives and changes both Herald Viktor and Vander-Warwick. That procedure "sacrifices the man" as Viktor previously refused to allow Singed to do. Vander can't return because Singed's action can't be undone. 7. Mel is a mage, someone born with arcane talents (per dialog in s1 ep1). Ambessa knows this, although when she knows is unclear. What she told Mel about Kino is probably a half-truth, what the fake Kino tells Mel when she's imprisoned also can't be entirely trusted. But what I took from it is that Mel and Kino's parentage indicated a possibility that one or both of them would be mages. _Probably_ Kino disappeared because the Black Rose got to him first and he died under their torture because he had no arcane talents to free himself. I haven't done a rewatch yet so I'm not entirely clear on the details. We are told outright that Mel's an empath, able to influence others, which fits with her role throughout the series. Even her physical powers sometimes show this. Notice that when she stops Maddie from shooting Caitlyn, the barrier encloses _Maddie,_ whose shot ricochets against the _inside_ of a sphere back onto herself. 8. Jayce falls to the bottom of the fissures in the alternate world. He's alone with no resources and no patrons. He has to drag himself out of the fissures to Piltover the way Viktor did. He even acquires a similar leg injury. Except instead of dragging himself up to a City of Progress to reach a high station and change the world, as Viktor did, Jayce drags himself up to a ruined city, destroyed by the power he and Viktor tried to harness. Jayce ascends laboriously to the pinnacle, the origin of destruction. Viktor rose to Piltover to create Hextech; Jayce rises to find the ability and the will to destroy it. I hope this is useful or at least interesting to you. Just one more thing. Some fantasy worlds explain their magic system in detail and others don't. You're of course welcome to your preference, but the term "deus ex machina" ("god from the machine") refers specifically to something that resolves whatever problems the characters face with no need for them to make decisions or take action. That's not the case here. Most of the time when arcane does "weird stuff the writers need," it's to put the characters in situations that develop their characters and _requires_ them to change or act rather than relieving that requirement. You could say that Mel's magical awakening frees her from captivity, but that awakening was her captor's specific aim _and_ it challenges Mel's relationship to her family and her understanding of self. Mel now has new abilities but it hardly makes her problems disappear. In other words, the writers don't use the arcane to avoid doing the work of developing characters or advancing the story's themes.
@TheDeconstructivist2 ай бұрын
@@noodle_fc I appreciate the time you took to write this up. It helps explain a few things from a thematic perspective, but it doesn't really resolve the narrative issues for me. My criticisms for S2 (which I have only watched once, thus far) aren't exactly criticisms with the story, they're criticisms with the way the story was told. I'm not some arbitrary hater, here. Season 1 of Arcane is one of the best seasons of television (let alone animation) ever created. Nearly every second of the show developed the story or the characters in some coherent, meaningful way. It was stounding. There is only 1 line and/or scene in all of season 1 that I can be critical of, which is an amazing accomplishment. Season 2, however, was narratively sloppy and I'm very confident "Deus Ex" applies here. If anyone is ridiculous enough to read my comment and not have watched the show yet, I'm going to get spoilery to give an example of what I'm taking about. Let's look at the seasons climactic moments. It seems like all hope was lost and then echo shows up with his little time machine. It's all cool and spicy. He uses the machine to get close to Viktor and Jayce and then the following things happen: 1.) He goes back in time more than 4 seconds and it somehow doesn't vaporize him (Deus Ex). 2.) Several seconds later throws the time travel machine, which is (Deus Ex) also some kind of bomb. 3.) Viktor recognizes what is being thrown at him and claims "this shouldn't exist." But we, the audience, don't know what "it" even is or why it damages Viktor. It is never explained. 4.) The explosion somehow damages Viktor's shell... or whatever it is... in the Astral plane, but I guess didn't hurt him in the physical plane? Or did it? 5.) Then Jayce and Viktor have an emotional moment and then something happens and they're both either vaporized or exploded? I'm not sure what they did, I'm not sure what they were talking about, I'm not sure how either one knew what they needed to do, and I'm not even sure what the FUCK they stopped. Season 1 I had a single complaint in the entire season. Season 2 I just listed 5 things that made no sense in a single scene. Was it gorgeous? Yes. It was. But it was chaotic and I shouldn't need a wiki to understand the story, that's just bad writing. I didn't hate Season 2, but it was narratively pedestrian compared to Season 1.
@noodle_fc2 ай бұрын
@@TheDeconstructivist Yeah, I'm not saying you're wrong. I know lots of people have issues with season 2. I think the pacing could have been better, but it's not a major detractor for me. I'm not trying to change your mind, just offering my thoughts because it's an interesting conversation. At the risk of oversimplifying, I would say your issues stem from a lack of explicit detail in the magic system combined with a desire to understand events in terms of mechanics. You're kind of going "what the fuck is happening?" and to be honest I think that is a fair reaction if you want what the show isn't giving you, namely, a more solid explanation of the magic stuff. I hear you saying that if you knew more about the mechanical stuff, the character stuff behind it would make more sense. If that's your final verdict, fair enough, but perhaps you are open to another perspective. To me, it's extremely telling that Viktor isn't defeated. He's not stopped by force because this isn't primarily a stopped-by-force kind of show. The victories and defeats in this show are emotional rather than physical-even those that are physical are often metaphors for or catalysts of emotional states (e.g. Ambessa vs. Mel/Caitlyn/Black Rose)-, and Viktor is no exception. The time device doesn't affect his _ability_ to assimilate everyone, it makes him doubt the desirability of his _intentions._ He doesn't say "only this device could stop me," he says only Jayce could show him "there's no prize in perfection, only an end to pursuit." I don't even think the device does "damage" him. It's more like it gives him pause enough to reconsider. For me, because its story impact isn't primarily mechanical, I am okay knowing less about how it works, whether it hurts Viktor or unshields him or etc. I'll try to pick up more of that the second time through. (Also, I don't think they ever establish "vaporize" as a consequence of extending the device's effect. Ekko sees Heimerdinger disintegrate but immediately restored. I think Ekko decided four seconds was pretty safe; more than that was dangerous but not defined. In the end he had no other option and no knowledge of what would happen except "probably something bad" which he'd rather happen over by Viktor than near himself.) I have definitely found stories lacking because the mechanics were confusing or inconsistent. In this case, personally, I feel like I know enough to enjoy the story. I can see how you'd see the time device as a deus ex machina because its magical effect on Viktor isn't given much attention. In my opinion, it doesn't qualify because there's enough shown about the characters' and themes' relation to the device that it works for me. Again, I'm not arguing against your interpretation, just offering a contrast.
@TheDeconstructivist2 ай бұрын
@@noodle_fc I actually appreciate the civility with which you offered your perspective. Even on something as relatively unimportant as a TV show. Too many people take "disagreement" to mean "hostility," but I do not and really do appreciate what you've shared. Outside of some of the pacing issues, I think the "Deus Ex" issues for me are a problem *because* they're so critical to the advancement of the characters. So, because I don't understand at nearly any point what is happening to Viktor in Season 2, I can't connect with his journey the way I want to (and, by proxy, Jayce). It's sort of like a math equation: Viktor + ??? = Viktor loses his humanity. Viktor + ??? = Viktor regains perspective. You can definitely make the case that I don't need to understand either ??? to understand that Viktor loses or regains humanity, but I lose my ability to fully connect with the characters with ??? missing. Consider an alternative equation: Characters + ??? = Sad Characters In this case, you can just show the characters being not sad, then show them sad, and the audience will get that the characters are sad, but is that *good*? From a literary perspective, let's say we solve for ??? as follows: Characters + Parents Killed by Piltover Enforcers = Sad Characters Now, suddenly, the Characters (Jinx and Vi) have a lot more depth. They're not just "sad," we understand their sadness. We can make sense of how they react to certain stimuli and it makes them plausible, relatable, and grounded. It amplifies the emotional significance of the moment Jinx kills Silco in S1, making it even more heartbreaking. By contrast, because we don't really understand why Viktor lost his humanity or the mechanism for its restoration, the impact of him regaining it is similarly disconnected. Because we don't understand what they were even stopping with their sacrifice, their sacrifice carries much less emotional weight. With the Viktor storyline, we're simply told what characters do without any ability to connect ourselves to any of the "whys," rendering the character development superficial. I'm not trying to convince you of anything either. Just reasoning out loud about why S2 left such a sour taste in my mouth. I still felt pretty good about the Vi, Jinx, Caitlin side of the story, but I felt extremely underwhelmed by the chaotic Jayce, Victor, Mel stuff for the reasons outlined above. I'm honestly happy for the people who enjoyed it more than I did, but it had a lot to live up to and, for me, it just did have the impact the first season did (or even close).
