Our animation professor worked on arcane season 1 and he also told us that every scene in the show used reference that they often acted themselves. Never feel bad for using reference, it's what the pros do!
@Soliye.17 күн бұрын
References are valid in everything you create. Not just when animating, but modeling, texturing, rigging, compositing… It’s not because it’s impossible without reference, it will just arguably not be of the same quality.

I actually think for extremely complex dynamic scenes there was a lighting team, they rendered out a bunch of diffuse lighting passes and NO specular passes. For specular highlights they used solids and shapes as seen in the eyes of characters. Obviously the diffuse passes are very basic so compositors likely did carry in terms of lightings fs. Or they did render of both specular and diffuse and they're just heavily altered in compositing See her hair in 11:30, it has dynamic lighting so there def was some cg lighting involved.

this is great, no shortcuts, no "THIS node setup will make your blender scene look exactly like Arcane!!!", just a solid overview of the entire workflow. My main takeaway is that i rly need to get better at using Resolve, or "acquire" a version of Nuke to try to learn, compositing is so insanely crucial.

Excellent video! I'm glad you mentioned the Lightning Boy Studios tutorial, the "Quick Edit" way of adding projected textures is IMO one of the most underappreciated features of Blender. Specifically my recommendation for how to use it is _after_ you've set up every shot and animated them all, go in and do a "Quick Edit" paint-over to add detail for that specific shot. I don't remember if LBS mentions it in the video you showed a clip from, but if you compare shots of the same scene side by side there are often small differences that have been painted onto objects in close-ups (like small details or shadows that weren't necessary for wider shots), and being able to set the animation up and then just open a screenshot of a scene in Krita, painting on a layer on top of that, and then directly projecting the texture back on top of the shot is just _so_ practical.

You stated in the video that Nuke's free non-commercial license would prohibit monetizing any videos that were composited in Nuke, but the FAQ says otherwise. Under the How does Foundry define “non-commercial” use? section: "Activities that indirectly generate advertising revenue-such as clips or free tutorials posted on KZbin or Vimeo-are permitted..." Such a great video! Really quality work. I learned some new things about Resolve here, which I did not expect going in. The one thing I don't get is why you would use ACES just to convert it to sRGB in Resolve. If you had just left the image files as linear, you would have even more flexibility in the future and would be putting your image through fewer lossy color conversions while, I believe, getting the exact same result. Minor nitpick, but again, incredible job breaking this process down in a way that's fun to watch. It's an instant subscribe for me!

This was a very impressive and informative video thanks. For your single layer texturing problem, well... the truth of the matter is that it doesn't exist, you can, for a long time add non-destructive 'layers' through the node system. You just have to be in Texture Paint got on the top of the view port with the texture selection, go to the Plus icon, select Add Base Color, make sure to check Alpha, got the the color selection base and set the Alpha to 0%. Then, once the new texture is added go to the shader material of the object, look around you should see the new texture there. To connect the new 'layer' over the main one, you just need to used a Mix Color node and plug the lase in the A slot and the new 'layer' in slot B, but also plug the Texture's Alpha to the Mix ColorS Factor; and there you have it. If you want to learn a more details on the process, get CGcookie's Core Unlock which explained on how to actually do professional texturing on objects, it's well worth the price tag, I was just amazed at all that I learned in the later few sections of the course, including on how to pain metallic, reflective and Normals.
