Well as a lower middle class south indian girl from bangalore, about 3 decades back, still could relate and enjoy. Used to enjoy as much as I enjoyed our Chandammama children's mag along with Arabian Nights. Just need an open culture and a free mindset ( neither superior nor inferior complex about ourselves) will understand thoughts and ideas. But problem here is these hinglish people have no value for our culture desperately trying to ape others prove to westerners we are like them , and show us indian gawars that they are better than us. Otherwise comic in itself is good, and inspite of originally written in 1930s continues to attract youngsters in 21st century from other part of the globe too. Anyways seeing star caste and the maker I am not even going to give a thought of seeing it. Call me bigot, backward, indoo fanatic and what have you, couldn't care less.

Indians were tired of seeing their own culture getting disrespect from their own Film Industry and wanted to embrace the beauty of the culture through content but sadly that was not possible. I think this is also the main reason of sudden popularization of KDramas and Animes in India that have extraordinary stories and who depict their culture in a very Beautiful way. This has also helped South Korea and Japan in increasing their Tourism Industry and ultimately their economy.

There's nothing wrong with reading/watching authentic content. I've read a lot of American fantasy novels, watched Japanese anime, and played video games created by foreign companies. And I've never had this particular problem with them, except South Koreans( which is why i find k-pop cringe) almost all of them are being their own authentic selves. Even if they are influenced by others in some way, this influence doesn't overwrite their original identity. But here in India for a very long time, particularly in the art sphere( music, movies, novels) , the people have been okay with pretending to be cheap imitations of someone else. This is very problematic, first because of the element of self-hate present in it, and secondly because when you try to be someone else, you will never be better at it than them, and only end up being a cheap imitation at best.

I am 54 and I read Archies , Casper the friendly ghost , Richie Rich in the late 1970's as a 10-11 years old. India is a very very different place now and the self image of Indians has evolved radically. This movie won't appeal to any Indian now regardless of age and social background. As you said only 2-3% of perhaps very westernized kids might watch and even this is dicey with so much more entertainment available unlike my childhood in Lucknow (U.P.)

The moment I saw two young adolescent boys shown wearing suspender belts in this Zoya Akthar's Archies promo, I was shocked. YOu rarely see people wear suspender belts in the west today and most certainly not young adolescents. Infact I put in the effort to go online and once again look at the Archie comic series and hard as I looked for anyone wearing suspender belts I just could not find anyone! What is wrong with Zoya. First she tries to make the movie look like an old album, as if the movie was shot in the 1950s. It generates the same instinctive reaction as watching a clip from movies in the 1950s or 1960s - I just feel like reaching for the remote and clicking away. Even if I come across good HIndi films from the 1950s and 1960s my instinct is to click away. Looks like someone told Zoya that ARchies were from several decades ago, so she decided to make us feel like we are watching a 1950s documentary. And the hideous half Indian and Half American accents she made these nepo kids speak is God awful.

Just can't imagine these 'Carrot Tops' playing the characters mouthing hinglish dialogs , I have to say like Doug 'Duh'. The comic strip made by Americans itself was so disappointing despite their own culture & here we are talking about, being made by people who have acquired culture due to one's own inferiority complex & confusion. South movie maker at least Indinize the characters to present idea/thought. Normally don't like assumptions, but then bollywood is Bollywood, tested and tried...so not even going to give a thought.

Reasons Bollywood is losing out. 1. They stopped catering their original market of tier 2 and tier 3 cities and started focusing on tier 1 cities and nri people. Bollywood thinks people of tier 2 and tier 3 cities like movies such as race 3 and Radhe but in reality we don't. 2. Globalisation brought a lot of variety to chose from and bollywood films were outgunned by better foreign films in tier 1 cities additionally as people of tier 2 and tier 3 cities also became more educated and were exposed to better films they started seeing all the flaws of bollywood films made for tier 2 and 3 cities. 3. As technology grew more and more regional films were dubbed in Hindi language and people got exposure to good quality local cinema And this Regional cinema filled the vaccum left by Bollywood in tier 2 and 3 cities. They created both masala movies and artistic movies. 4. Bollywood never innovated they are stuck on the Idea that people like the same recycled shit when in reality people now have the luxury to see the original item. Bollywood movies to this day are very far from reality. In the meantime regional cinema innovated a lot they came a long way from making physics defying and senseless movies to making films grounded in Indian society and culture and movies that actually make sense and are grounded in reality. All in all Bollywood lost tier 1 market to Hollywood, lost tier 2 and 3 market to local cinema.

Jab Habitat centre jate the khana khane ke liye, Papa ek comic dilwa dete the. Mujhe toh trailer dekhke yeh samajh nahi aya, yeh kaunsa archies chal raha hai picture mein. Bas yeh nepotism ke gawaro ko foundation thop ke picture mein daal diya hai. Matlab elite indian gentry ko gora karke 1960s wali vintage vibe de rakhi hai. Real mein Archies mein sab abhi ki tarah kapde pehente hain, alag alag race aur appearance ke hain, pura concept hi American teen culture ka representation hai , aur ek bahot hi generic sa entertainment concept hai, jiske bare mein kisi ne itna dimag nahi lagaya india mein. Pura bachpan south delhi mein rahi, aaj tak kisi ne archies ke bare mein discuss nahi kiya. Kitab padhke main bhi maze mein bhool jati thi. At first, looking at the forest in the background, I thought this was going to be a _Chronicles of Narnia_ adaptation. Then I figured who was promoting it and whose idea it was, and I forthwith realized that these people were incapable of delivering such magic. Quite akin to our own rich culture, the West also has wonderful tales to offer that could be adapted, if at all one wants to use Western source material (although, personally speaking, I would much rather prefer adaptations on our own itihāsas). Instead, they settle for vacuous trendy claptrap and give it a 'desi' touch, which renders it all the more third-rate because it is then relatable to no one.

As someone who even hates Riverdale, I don't know how to take this version.
@CockySuSMounted2 жыл бұрын
I have a suggestion : Take this version as a Riverdalla 😁 if you think my wordplay doesn't make logical sense then so is also the case with this project,infact much worse 🤣

For the ones watching soft powers of other nations kudos to you. I love C-dramas too. But will you watch Adipurush, Delhi files, southern India films? Please do watch, I am happy that Indian film industry has Tollywood to which outsiders are watching and getting attracted to our country.
