Yeah but he is not just some "big guy" he has one of THE strongest backs in the world. He is a record holder who can easily lift 180 kg stones which are btw much harder for the back than 180kg deadlifts. I dont know if its his biggest record but I know he did one of these tests where the biggest stone was 268 kg. By the way, bodybuilders and smaller guys would definitely not be able to lift all of these stones without injuring their backs. Those stones are dense as fuck.

Can somebody explain how strong man protect their lower back?
@TheArdblairStones
@TheArdblairStones 4 жыл бұрын
mango and tot, I believe that training your core, is half the battle which can be developed by only using a weight belt when absolutely necessary. Compound movements such as squats and deadlifts without relying on suits, belts etc can all help develop a strong core. Tom has an exceptionally wide and thick back, hence his moniker “The Albatross” because of their huge wingspans. A lot of Strength comes from keeping the back straight and in a position which doesn’t make it vulnerable. If the weight is excessive the back may lose its optimal position and start to round, this can put the back in a vulnerable position. The use of a weight belt can help the back maintain a good posture because it can act as a brace if used properly 👍

@@mangoandtot9739 its because they keep the stones centre of gravity very close meaning their back is not pulled in a forward position like a deadlift where your back must be completely straight in order to be safe.

@@mangoandtot9739 Normally they lean over the stone, meaning the weight partially rests in their lap. Same with the log clean. But here... Nah. He's just really fucking strong. There was zero technique here. The stones were probably small enough to just throw them up there. But yeah. His lower back seemed just... bad. I felt like it was gonna snap any minute.
