Vas is not a requirement of a driver. You can almost ignore it in the assesment of total performance. Vas is a requirement to follow frequency response alignments by Thiele&Small. We are well past that. With good amps and processing, we are not aligning anything. We are extracting performance from available motor force and cone displacement.

@marcuslinton31011 ай бұрын
True, you cannot bend the law of physics. Smaller subs have to move further in and out to produce the same sound as larger subs. The more distance a sub has to travel, the more distortion it can add as well. So, please explain how something traveling further in and out is somehow easier to start and stop? Well, you can't. Which is why suggesting that smaller is more accurate is crap. The less a speaker has to move, the far more accurate it is. Larger subs will produce bass much better then smaller subs, plain and simple.

@@RobotUnderground it is. i'm not saying it won't produce those notes, its just not the kind of clean, head shattering higher frequency bass you can get from a smaller box and sub. tiny speakers respond better to higher frequencies but lack in low frequency performance. for high bass frequencies, an 8 inch sub will be cheaper, more power efficient, and be less distorted than a larger sub. if you're only using one sub, like you said, a 10 is a good compromise, but an 8 and a 12 used together is better quality if you tune the boxes to cover separate frequencies. a large sub can be tuned for higher hz but from my experience, it sounds muddy almost like the cone is resonating, and the sub isn't moving to its max potential. i'm not trying to say you're wrong, i'm just telling you that small subs aren't useless unless your only concern is SPL. power is fun but quality makes the fun last... i spent a year with two 12s and had a blast, but the loudest part of every song was 30 to 50 hz, making most music sound the same. high hz bass is underrated... then again, its just how i like it. btw i respect your work. you know what you're talking about... most of the time... ; P lol everyone likes different types of women

@@Dan_Hazard It comes down to displacement and force. Many times I recommend a more hearty single driver than 2x mediocre subs. Takes up less space, tends to be a better value / bang for buck. It depends though if someone already has a box or thinks they can hear a difference between the two. You always want to look at the Fs and then what enclosure you're using. On average, two 10's will displace more air, however a single 12" that is 2x the power may be a better buy and take up less space. So I'd recommend the single 12".

The 8 w7 has a lot of stroke, it can get decently low and really most people like that range well enough. 12 w7 goes even lower and you will really feel that low end which some can say feels muddy or sloppy and that’s just inherent in those frequencies as they are very slow waves. Personally I like woofers to roll off at 40 hz so that I feel the 30 hz but just barely enough. This makes everything feel nice and tight, which is why people prefer 8s because they do this already with fs in the 45hz ranges

Can you elaborate more on attempting a 4 ohm load for more efficiency? I always had a thought in the back of my mind that if I can get a 5000 watt amp and run the load at 4 ohms which would by the amp put out maybe 2500 rms, then I'd be able to have high efficiency while still getting a good amount of wattage
@RobotUnderground3 жыл бұрын
Woofers need lots of volts. They love high voltage. It's what allows them to jump. The 4 ohm thing is just a trend I've been seeing from younger people. Younger people tend to have greater OCD as well though. They want to experiment and think that they're unique. For best results, it's always great to just use the amp to as close of an impedance that the maker recommends. It's always safer to go up, not down in impedance.

What's your take on the "smart" Brazilian 3k? Really peaking my curiosity..
@RobotUnderground3 жыл бұрын
Well you have to ask yourself why they think their other amps are, "dumb". Brazilian designs tend to be without good protection circuits and very fickle about power and impedance loads. I was dumbfounded at the first review I watched Big D Wiz perform. In real life though, we've found the smaller amps to be noisy and the bigger amps to have the problems I listed above. I do think it's great that they added a small analog computer on board to help with the problem of 1 ohm vs 2 ohm. Nobody's really talking about the fact that a boring, traditional class D though does virtually the same power at 1 ohm or 2 ohm anyway.
@derrickpfannebecker61313 жыл бұрын

@ds1919ds19193 жыл бұрын
It comes down to how much power (P) you can supply to the amp. Car alternators deliver their rated current and that's it! Don't expect more from your cheap Brazilian amp than what your alt delivers. Wiring is a major factor too.

In pickups you can be very limited. DD Audio 2508 and 1506 front firing actually sound pretty damn descent. No possibility of using any respectful tens down firing when you only have 4 inches depth. Even then the surround eventually slaps the floor destroying the ten. I've had pretty descent success with these subwoofers when the customer refused to give up any seat area. and in most cases you are limited to 2.5 inch seat risers. I have fabricated 3 inch rise and 3 inch forward seat brackets which actually gives you descent airspace for front firing 6s and 8s to breathe. I'm just partial to DD 6, AND 8 American made woofers. They want to pay to play who am I to say no. They hit hard and sound really descent. Box is the major factor and using multiples. Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. You do what you can with the parameters given.
