As a general principle I learned long ago that if the needs are met, then going farther usually introduces other issues and it always costs more for no real gain. Know your needs and it sorts itself out. Back in the old days, one of the touted advantages of low-power scopes was that you have a much greater FOV, and therefore are able to find your target/ game animal among the background faster. Also that a large objective lens gathers more light allowing safe shooting when you couldn't do that with your iron sights or a small objective scope due to darkness. Much has changed since then but those principles remain the same.

Great points in this vid. The diminishing returns points are spot on. One point that Forgotten Weapons made that also resonated with me was that one of the things you pay for is quality control. The more expensive manufacturers toss more parts than cheaper manufacturers.

Your use case sounds exactly like mine. After a lot of research I went with a Prinary Arms 1-6 LPVO for around 250 and I couldn’t be happier. Primary Arms makes some good optics for a killer price.

That's good to hear. FWIW I live 20 minutes from Primary Arms. I've yet to see the inside of their store, the last time I tried their showroom was closed because of covid. EDIT: Living so close it's a good thing optics really aren't my thing.

I've looked into this. As far as I have been able to determine only one prototype was made as proof-of-concept. I have been unable to determine as yet whether this prototype still exists. If it does I seriously doubt I will be able to gain access to it. I'll continue to research this.

Maybe I should make a comment related to the content. I'm taking a chance on a used Tasco Pro Point (yeah, I know, Tasco, this one was made in Japan), which I think is an early red dot scope. They still get positive comments on various forums, esp the ones made in Japan. I figure for around $40.00 I'll roll the dice. I still considering a small basic dot scope for my CX-4 Storm 9, maybe the Bushnell TRS-25, or Sig Romeo 5 or the more basic CM(?).
@tinkertalksguns72897 ай бұрын
The TRS25 is basic but it's a solid unit. I've used them for years.

@@tinkertalksguns7289How do you like using the TRS25 wearing glasses? I have astigmatism, & wear progressive (no lines) bifocals. I find that binocs, spotting scopes, scopes, etc can be a PITA when wearing glasses. Which why I currently use the factory sights on my guns.
@tinkertalksguns72897 ай бұрын
@@Salieri47 It hasn't been an issue for me. You might try a pism sight; I understand those work well for people with astigmatism.

Mentioning dimishing returns...my wife plays acoustic guitar. Talk to serious acoustic guitar aficionados (snobs) if you want to hear some bizarre justifications for spending huge sums of money on 'better tone' that is very likely inperceivable to most human's hearing.
