the armed have always been a tough nut to crack for me, but this is just another level of chaotic. it sounds like 5 songs played at the same time. gonna need to listen to it like ten more times just to try to grasp what's going on here. still, looking forward to that new album.

First listen I was overwhelmed, but I've listened to it many times since and it all now has total clarity! Worth investing the time in it.

I'm right there with ya. Been listening to the Armed just long enough to maybe start getting the first song I ever heard by them, which I experienced live. The shock I experienced was... interesting. Since then it's been a journey of attending pretty much every show that I possibly can. Being tossed over things. Onto things. Into people. It's an acquired taste, that's for sure. At first it was just noise.

What I want from metal and/or hardcore is basically this level of intensity but it needs to be uplifting. This is like bathing in lava: you get incinerated, yes, but it feels so warm! Is there anyone other than The Armed who can deliver this?

I’m researching this album trying to decipher what’s going on. I’m assuming they are referring to the last witness to Vincent Van Gogh. Also found out what Gerasimov is all about. A new kind of warfare. There is political and artistic references through out Only Love. I’m slowly putting pieces together to get a cohesive meaning behind such obscure lyrics that may not be so obscure as we think? Let’s see how far this rabbit hole goes. (Matrix reference) because this shits wild. If anyone has more info let a brother know.

Four years to dust Lost animals, animals Days folded down inanimate, animate Down and out Winding up my baby for show I don't know, did I kill them, maybe? Still I am bound And still I am bound Justice come swift Words to ignore A better love (better love) Men to forgive Never an animal (animal) All the red Streams of red vapour spew out Can't you hear the sirens of the rhythm? Still I am bound And still I am bound And still Witness for Vincent Not for your eyes Not for your eyes

@slomkary6 жыл бұрын
Franz Grím, do you feel that the last album (Untitled) did not work in it's own context? If so, how/why?
@willpowerbroken6 жыл бұрын
uh i don't really understand what you mean, how can an album work in a context of itself? i was talking about this particular single that it might sound better when placed after a couple of hard-hitting songs or whatever. i loved 'untitled' and one of the reasons why is that sequence from 'blessings' to 'polarizer', it's beautiful how they combined all the elements of their sound and more there. of course, there were some memorable tracks on that album as well ('forever scum' and that one where he screams "are you happy, are you fulfilled"), but those three really defined the album for me and if it wasn't for them, it'd kinda sound like an average chaotic hardcore release. we all know how good the armed are, from the early EP's to their albums, but sometimes it just feels like they're not trying to top themselves and they sound uninspired like here.
@willpowerbroken6 жыл бұрын
i actually hope that this one is the album's closer because it def sounds like one

@DrGeta6664 жыл бұрын
i know it was an artistic decision to make the whole album with the high end cut out but i feel it really pulls from how amazing the album could be, untitled was so amazing but i feel only love is far more progressive, really sucks it sounds like shit when playing side by side
@stephenshoemaker60352 жыл бұрын
Is that all they did to get the album to sound like this? I don't know anything about audio engineering, but I feel like the "noisiness" of the album can get attributes to at least a handful of factors between tracks. I could totally see myself "bouncing off" of this album for the same reasons you mentioned - I'd listened to "Untitled" at least once every other day, for several months straight, before listening to Only Love, and I think part of the reason I wasn't turned off from Only Love is that when I first heard Untitled, I wasn't entirely sure what to make of it, either. It sounded just as noisy to me as Only Love did on my first listen. With both albums, I found that if I can suppress the habitual impulse to dissect it, the song just starts to 'click' after the 2nd or 3rd listen. Idk if this will make sense or work for you, but for me personally, I tried to think of every instrument strictly as if it were a percussion instrument. Maybe grant the bass a provisional license to be a string instrument. As long as it was clear enough in the mix and not trying anything funny. I hope you'll find it more appealing if you give it another shot.
