Chutzpah is defined as behavior, or a person attitude, that is rude or shocking but so confident that people may feel forced to admire it. At least this is how Oxford English Dictionary frames it. But chutzpah as many other things in life has two sides of the coin. It can be much more than its negative definition. Jonathan Howard argues, that by mastering your own chutzpah, everyone can become more creative. Jonathan’s never-ending thirst to know is to solve the creativity puzzle by answering questions about how human beings can unleash their creativity. And his original way of thinking about it and cultivating chutzpah is a powerful way to think about inner boundaries that block our creativity.
Jonathan is an advertising consultant, startup mentor, and improvisational theater teacher. Starting his career at Saatchi & Saatchi in London as a strategic planner, Jonathan’s career has moved through the worlds of theater, TV, startups, politics and renewable energy. He works with many different kinds of groups, from politicians to young offenders, to help them open up their imagination and solve problems in original, unexpected ways. He created the world’s first live, interactive TV drama for the BBC, and has worked on many award-winning advertising campaigns. He is certain that everyone can be creative and people can unlock their creative energy step by step practicing simple but powerful methods every day. Jonathan believes that creativity is a tool that when used wisely can solve some of the world’s biggest problems.

Language is not set in stone, language changes and grows. Traditionally, chutzpah has meant "audacity that goes too far in the wrong direction." ... Bravo to Jonathan Howard for revealing the bright and positive face of chutzpah, one that opens our imaginations.

Jonathan Howard is brilliant -- I have never heard such a glorious tribute to chutzpah. Linking that much-maligned trait (one I have long admired) as a pathway to creativity is nothing short of genius. I only wonder what a nice Jewish boy like Jonathan is doing speaking in front of such a stilted audience--were they English, like that Titanic survivor Howard mentions, who didn't speak to others on the lifeboats because they hadn't been introduced? That might explain the tepid response to such an inspiring talk. Keep on truckin', JH. PS-- Would love to hear you talk about instances in your own life when you summoned chutzpah. Ted #2?

To have chutzpah means 'to say boldly', a very bold lie, but maybe a bold truth. It's neutral.

Brillant talk. Johnathan Howard's manner of speaking reminds me of the late Sir Ken Robbinson and I obviously mean it as a compliment.

I found this word after I unintentionally got a fight with someone online, about which I felt a terrible sense of rejection and scorn. Then I asked me why... I don't remember where I read a phrase, when something hits you and causes you emotions, it means this thing is also in you. And I recognized that's Chutzpah. It's a part of me which I refused to recognize only because I judge it as an "unpleasant and irritating social behaviour". I avoided it for long time cause it doesn't enter in the so-called social codes, but that is Chutzpah. I think the Chutzpah of many people is just blocked by the limits posted by other peoples who once were rulers. But we don't necessarily have to live under someone else's rules. That's why we need Chutzpah, we need rule-breakers, we need who can free themselves from sense of social shame and activate their Chutzpah, making new and better rules, perpetually..

Андрей Белоусов yea bro, that’s stupidity from one side. So, in Israel there is another meaning of this word. Bur from another side I think it’s logical and enough nature way when some words which are taken from another language start to receive some new notions according to the culture where this words are used. So , I pretty tolerate their invention of the new meaning of this word but still stay on the position that Israelis use it much more correct.

@@paulstrahnickiy1724 Is the word chutzpah closer to the word gumption or brazenness? It would seem that the positive connotations he is looking for are covered by the word gumption, but the dictionary (which defines it as extreme self confidence or audacity) misses what he is trying to redefine it to, and his early examples were more like brazenness.
