Yes! Great explanations George especially #2. It’s so easy to overplay rhythmic stuff. Accompany and compliment !

I've been guilty of all of them at one time or another

The reference at 0:43 about comping meaning both accompanying and complimenting is a phrase that I heard used by a drummer in Connecticut in the 80’s. It is a phrase that I have often used myself since, but until this video, I have never heard anyone else use it. I’m sure that the Connecticut drummer didn’t coin the phrase, but I am surprised that it is not cited more frequently.

I can't claim to have coined it either. I'm not sure where I heard, but it sure makes sense, don't you think?

@@GeorgeHessMusic It absolutely makes sense. It stuck with me!

@@kenster3554It a Peerless Gigmaster Jazz. I fell in love with it at the store and bought it on the spot. Unfortunately Peerless seems to have gone out of business

I used to accompany singers in my office during lunch hours, my favorite kind of playing. I’m 81 now and don’t run into singers anymore, unfortunately. Enjoyed the seminar!!

@@GeorgeHessMusicI'm starting the guitar again, alone, I note that it's better to play on play-alongs or real tunes than on backing tracks (that's good, I have some old aebersold, and I just discovered useful apps like Moises & Lalala.ai). Thanks for all your advices.
