I'm going to try the candle technique for my next edit. If it turns out to change my life, I'll sign up for a branded Akira Kurosawa or Mary Sweeney or Lee Smith candle

I know I'm 4 years late, but "yes" to the 'editing candles', 'render toys' & 'stand up for editors'!

Audio is really important! Audio without video is radio. Video without audio is surveillance.

Oh my god I would invest in _all_ of these things. Especially a render toy. Like, I'll do other things if I have to wait, but they always either take my mind away from the edit or they just end up being way more time-consuming than I expected! I'll definitely get a candle though. _This_ is an editing class I can get behind!

Thank you! I like your unboxings, especially, and believe I got a lot out of this video in a short time. I thought the candle was to give you a deadline and to stop when it goes out. I guess the last furious compilation happens with lights out! (Hopefully that is my canine roaming around down there ~ if not, what have I just edited up?!)

Really great stuff Ann. I’m an editor as well, 17 years now professionally having worked on everything. Doing doc/ tv series now....it’s all about the philosophy, gosh eh I cut I don’t even pay attention to what my fingers are doing, I’m so focused on the intention and motivation of the cut. I’m always interested to hear how other editors work who I respect, your work is inspired for sure so please; do more of these. Thanks!

I love the idea of the editing candle, especially if it's actually branded the Thelma Schoonmaker. It'll be right at home on my cluttered desksaster.

Definitely want to have render time toys! I'd use it for compile time toy, but the intention is the same :)

If editing ever need be described in one word with 3-seconds left on the clock, surely the most seasoned and wise of film-cutters will utter: "SEXY!"

If you had a bigger mouse pad you wouldn't have to pick it up and move it as much. Those .25 seconds add up to hours.

You are never finished editing... you just run out of time.
