“Even if you cannot change all the people around you, you can change the people you choose to be around. Life is too short to waste your time on people who don’t respect, appreciate, and value you. Spend your life with people who make you smile, laugh, and feel loved.” ― Roy T. Bennett,

"...you can change the people you choose to be around." -Roy T. Bennett Are we really able to "change" others?

Perhaps he meant we can 'select' other people to be around?

Can’t believe people from ancient times are wiser than us. These are real values, not possessions. 😊

Freedom is the open sky through which pours the light of the human spirit. Embrace it, rise in love with its constant growth and stream of change from where it all flows from, the open heart, to live in a way that enhances peace and the freedom of others. Always believe that life is worth living, and our belief and what we create will make our life better.

"Craving for more is the real poverty", this is the counter arguement to a consumerist world, no wonder happiness levels are going down the 'richer' we get
@stoic_movement Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. True wealth lies in contentment and understanding our inner desires. 🧘♂ The more we chase, the further happiness eludes us. It's about finding balance in a world of excess. 🌍💡 Keep that insight close. 👊🌟

When we were kids my sister worshipped Madonna. She was about 11. My sister was playing 'material girl' over and over. My granddad tried to explain that Madonna will always be poor and never be satisfied. I was 30 before I realised what he meant. I was 40 before I realised that my Grandfather (the most liked man I've ever known) unknowingly lived the life of a stoic. My sister still sees madonnas millions and remembers my Grandfather as a fool
@rarebird_82 Жыл бұрын
Look at Madonna today, embarrassing. She should've turned it in at 40 and bowed out with grace. She's a multimillionaire, but she's morally and spiritually bankrupt. Your grandfather was right ✌🏻

bukowski's "don't try" gravestone sums up this entire philosophy in two words, imho
@jimhull3103 Жыл бұрын
Don't waste time, focus on what's in your control, and live virtuously doesn't equal "don't try" imo. Training yourself to accomplish those things requires considerable effort.

go read "the laughing heart" by buk. or "so you want to be a writer." then get back to me about what it means to be human. his gravestone says what is says for a reason. @@jimhull3103

Stoicism concept of death being just a natural part of life process as a release from lifes struggle and hardship is a philosophy i too have embraced... What a coincidence I also love to travel and try anything and learn about other culture. Love culture shock within limitations of course
