The Art of Speed Ramping in LumaFusion

With the new Speed Ramping feature in LumaFusion 5.0, editors can gradually change the speed of a clip over time. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to do this from scratch, both manually and using the presets in LumaFusion, while also developing an appreciation for the importance of frame rate when accelerating or decelerating the speed of your clips.

Speed Ramping is a great addition. I'm thoroughly impressed with its implementation and how well and intuitively it adjusts to the user's workflow. It becomes natural in minutes. Same for easing and paths.

I have translated the ones in English, but I cannot understand the whole process, because if I watch the subtitles, I don't watch the video and vice versa. Hi. How much size of files can we import to luma? Can i import 4k 60 one or two hours long video to luma and edit it or it has lag this way? Ca i need 16 gb ram new ipad pro for better editing? And can this app handle two layer video editing in 4k long videos?

The size of items will depend on the amount of storage on your device. If there is space for the media plus some overhead (50-100% ideally), it should import and edit just fine. Depending on the bitrate of the material, and assuming it's completely compatible with iOS, there should be no issue, and lag should not be a problem. If you do see a lag you can adjust preview quality to help. Yes, a new device with lots of RAM will be the best case scenario for a high-volume edit such as you describe.

I find this feature valuable, and I went ahead and purchased it. However, I’m a little frustrated because I’m only allowed to use this feature within a specific frame. However, lot of times I want to provide slow motion speed ramping throughout a segment of my video that I had to modify. Or cut up quite a bit. Speed ramping tool becomes broken for me if I have 15 segments that all encompass a specific 30 second or one minute part of my video that I want to work with. Is there not a way for me to use the multi select tool to select multiple frames. And then activate the speed ramp tool over that entire lengh?

Hi there, this is not currently possible - speed ramping is applied within a single clip, not across a selection. However, you could achieve this by copying the edited clips to a different timeline, exporting and adding that clip to the original timeline for speed ramping. Hope this helps - Caroline.

Does lumafusion on iphone have the smooth slow motion option?! I mean can it smoothen a video shot at 30fps and slowed to 0.5x or would that appear choppy!?

Hi there. LumaFusion does not have interframe interpolation, so if you want a slow motion effect you'll need to shoot footage with a higher framerate (eg, 60fps played back on a 30fps timeline will move at 0.5x/half speed). Lots of times there is some room to fudge that a bit and still get a nice looking result, depending on the kind of motion recorded.

First you need to have 5.0 installed. Ensure your device is updated to the latest official iOS version, and that you're logged into the same Apple ID you used to purchase LumaFusion. Go to the App Store app, tap on your name/avatar, then tap on "Apps". In the list you should see LumaFusion. Tap Update. If you don't see that, please follow this link in a browser: apps.apple.com/app/lumafusion/id1062022008 Now that you have 5.0, you can purchase from the What's Happening pop-up when you first open LumaFusion, or you can tap Help & Settings, then the green (+) Features button. since i upgrade 5.0 i can't use transition like before i can't use transition between video to video but picture it work normal. do you have any guidance?

I'm just about to make a video about this. If you add a transition at the untrimmed head or tail of a clip, the transition will not work--it needs at least 1/2 as many frames trimmed from it as the duration of the transition you wish to add--this will give the app material with which to create the blending effect. Watch out for a video that helps explain this in more depth.

Thanks for the feedback. if you are referring to an audio noise cancellation tool, you might have missed the very nice one we added in a little while back. In the Audio Editor, tap/click on the third/middle Preset tab, and you'll find a tool called "Sound Isolation"--give this one a try. It's tuned primarily to isolate voices, but can work well on lots of different kinds of footage. Let us know how it works for you.

Thanks for your feedback. The Android version of LumaFusion has been around for a much shorter time than the iOS version, and let me assure you there is no discrimination. Our Android engineers are working steadily to bring the feature set closer to parity with iOS. Many of the features you miss rely on hardware/software capabilities in iOS devices that are not present in the Android ecosphere. We are working with Google to ease these pain points. We will be developing and refining so that LumaFusion continues to the best editing experience available.
