A fresh flavor in the world of news, WION news has caught many eyes. Palki Sharma Upadhyay, the Executive Editor of WION, shares about the four gaps in the world of cluttered journalism.
In this talk, she rightfully shares how our world today is a 'grand storytelling competition' and 'it is a race of who delivers the story better'. She beautifully uses the analogy of ‘Katha’ and ‘Kathakar’ to land the point of how it’s not about just the story but the way it’s put across by the ‘Kathakar’. WION aims to give the consumers value for time by following the five steps of ethos, pathos, logos, metaphor, and brevity.
Palki Sharma Upadhyay, from WION, is someone who believes in saying it as it is. Her tremendous work with WION on issues like politics, business, international affairs, and social commentaries has made her an icon for aspiring journalists and youngsters alike. She also leads the only international news program in India called Gravitas.
Starting her career with the iconic Doordarshan, she has traversed her journey with stints at the Hindustan Times, CNN News-18, and iTV. Her work has touched the realm of journalism across the years, and today, she proudly represents objective and analytical journalism in India. She is great at storytelling. But news is also about content and perceptive. And if you do research, you will find, her boss of the company has 2 channels. And each channel gives opposite views on the same topic. It's called Hedging. She is obviously very good at connecting with audiences. And we shouldn't expect more from a news anchor. But alot of people believe she knows and understands alot of different genre topics like Geopolitics, war strategies, etc. I have seen that those topics which i am familiar with, she is wrong almost consistently on every topic. So, consume her content with also same scrutiny like other news sources.

You're right on point, "until the lions learn to write their own story, the tale of hunting will gratify the hunter". This is where most developing countries have been all these years and some continue to be. Gravitas is an exceptional news house, very straight to the point, no drama or twist to the truth. In some instances, Gravitas will present evidence from both sides of the story for listeners and viewers to conclude, that for me is news at a different level. I know Gravitas news is quite inward-looking when the news has to be about Pakistan or China. However, I believe your news has change the narrative and remove the cloud of deceit of Western news from many who want to know the truth about things happening around the globe. Palka treats the audience with intelligence. Here in Australia, the media treat us people like idiots. Never can take their news as truthful in most instances. Very left sided in general, we do have some alternative channels though. But never do we hear the other side of the story, eg. Russia Ukraine war. The western media is very bias. One of the greatest readers of news today, her intonations, pauses, and clarity are unmatched I think.. I hardly see any other newsreader who can keep the listener so engrossed. also for the most part, her presentations are without much bias, no one can be perfect, but she tries very hard, some subconscious bias will occasionally surface, but negligible..
