@@lillyarts2 Dude, they're kids. Have you ever met a child? Most children want likes because they think it'll make them popular or validated. It's a normal thing kids do, it's like showing your art off to family so you can get praised for it. Most kids do that in some way. And kids don't understand how to be humble until they're taught, which doesn't mean you get the pass to harass and bully them. All that does is make the child more likely to give up on the craft instead of learning to improve. When you attack someone instead of talking with them in a calm discussion, you just end up propitiating this toxic environment where simple mistakes are met with more hostility than they deserve. Kids and beginners will grow out of the behavior with time and learning and they don't need that to be impeded by a fuck ton of randos hounding them because they had a little bit of an ego about their art.

I gave up on having a style a while ago. Not because I don't want one but because I want each different project I work on to have its own distinct feel and aesthetic, and because I like changing my style from piece to piece. Lately I've been absorbing my friends' art styles since we all collaborate on ideas together for our show pilot
@ishouldbedoingmyhomeworkno5358 ай бұрын
I mean the ability to change style is rather helpful in the art industry if you are interested in it join it but even then having different style to different project is also helpful in establishing the feels and identity of the project you are going for
@yorutsumetai8 ай бұрын
Everyone has a style, even if it isn't consistent. Unless a person can completely change everything down to the basics, it's all just a variation of the same style. (Keep in mind this is a broad statement, I don't know what your work looks like so I can't say. But overall a style is just the way an artist approaches a piece and it doesn't often change as much as some people think.)
@Itsanit_Isnt_It6 ай бұрын
Im in the same boat, I mean, I still technically have a style (mostly because I still have a lot to learn about art before I can actually make distinct styles) but I want to have a different feel for each oc group I have, so I can distinguish between them by just looking at the style

I know I’m saying this as a complete stranger on the internet, but I’m genuinely so proud and so so happy that you’re enjoying making art again!! Over the last couple of years, it always sounded like your expectations set on yourself were always just out of reach when it came to your art. I’ve always loved hearing and seeing your progress, but the genuine stress you’d express about pieces not turning out right and how much work and time and energy you’d put into projects to make them reach those high expectations-bestie, I was worried for you and the burnout that comes with that mindset! But the absolute relief I felt hearing and seeing you have fun with art, and-most importantly of all-believing in yourself and your abilities and your process??? I’m so proud of you, June. As long as you’re enjoying what you’re making, I can guarantee you we’ll all be here to support you!

Your exploration of art styles in the past ? months? god what is time, has inspired me so heavily. I was stuck in "only realism is good" for so long without even realizing it, and when you started finding the style you currently have it blew my mind. Even though it maybe even shouldnt have?? If you get what I mean? I had seen art styles i guess similar to yours, non-realism and whatnot. Stylized to look interesting and cool instead of always realism-accurate. But when you found your style, it really just clicked in my head. I adore the way you draw, the designs you make, the stylized anatomy that looks so interesting and eye-catching, the colours and urhuhgurghr puts my mouth on your tablet. And you walking us through your process of art is so helpful to me. I have old empty sketchbooks that i only bought to be a "real artist" but I never drew anything in them i liked. Cause i didnt use them for practice, i had the thought of "everything needs to look good in this sketchbook, so i can be proud of it". Which was. so bad. sososo bad. Seeing the way you practice, its almost like..... "yeah, you can practice art. without jumping from finished to finished piece. you can sketch, do style studies, like actually learn...." LIKE IT FEELS LIKE THIS SHOULDNT HAD BEEN A REALIZATION AT ALL. BUT HERE I AM, PLAnning on buying a new sketchbook soon, and trying to use it to improve this time. I wanna do the studies you show, like the way you drew like 30 lil bears and enjoyed it so. Hearing you talk about how much you enjoyed studying art....it kinda made me realize that man, I dont like drawing. I want to like drawing again.

As someone who’s prone to perfectionism tendencies made worse by the fact the art world is so critical and cutthroat of every little mistake people who are trying to make it as artists make (likely and sadly in order to validate themselves bc everyone and their uncle wants to be an artist rn and we can’t all be successful or so people think, that and we are creatures of habit so we view what is successful in the art world as the only valid standard to live up to) THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOOO MUCH! For making this video and being honest with the fact you value what is fun and what looks good at times over perfection and “correctness.” IMO you do it right! You don’t overvalue not making things look good or following art rules to the point you throw them out a window, as you do a lot of helpful studies and try to improve, but you also don’t stress when your end result values having fun and aesthetics over looking like a masterpiece! It’s something more people should get in the mindset of doing as it’s healthier and a way to avoid both burnout and becoming a perfectionist who freezes up and never starts for fear it won’t live up to every standard under the sun when those standards ultimately will not only destroy the reason you got into art but make your piece less fun, which sucks the creativity right out, and others will tell. People don’t want perfect they want effort and uniqueness. Which is something I’m still learning to remember within my own work. Finished and enjoying the process is better than perfect everyone trust me. P.S this said still do studies and learn the rules but treat studying as improving and learning not as perfection either.

Your personality is so adorable and your positivity is so infectious!! Everyone could gain a lot from having an art friend like you. Especially above anything though man the way you study is just mind blowing to me, I feel like it really reshaped my whole perspective like I can't even imagine being like "man I'm having some slight problems drawing this hoodie" and then go do seven pages of dozens of drawings studying every intricacy of how hoodies work just to go back to my first drawing to be like "ah, see there it is." Like man it really puts into perspective why how people become SO skilled. I feel like I am the type to just draw maybe one thing every 2... or maybe lately every... 4-5 weeks annnnd each one I do still do ambitious things to push myself but like that's my one drawing of the month so I just kinda bash my head into the wall with trial and error over and over and hundreds and thousands of erasures and retries until it finally comes together into something I like. I really relate to when you were talking about how all the fun got sucked out of art by trying to appeal to every negative feedback you've ever gotten and follow the "rules" I feel like that's where I've been the last few years college especially really killed any sort of artistic passion I had, I went from drawing every day my entire life for fun to forcing myself to mayyyybe do it once a month if I'm lucky. This has really inspired me though! I can tell how much you love drawing and it shows so much in how much effort and joy you put in! I hope to be the same someday too now ☺ Lets see if I stick to it lol Side note, is there anywhere to like watch you do studies live? I feel like it'd be a really fun way to try drawing all kinds of things that I'd never do on my own. I just wanna say you talking about how sometimes you just leave things unfinished, making poses that make no sense because it looks cool, and just overall doing ur own thing and just chillin has made me see the joy in art again. Not everything has to be perfect, sometimes it looks better when it isn’t “prefect”. Just leaving rough drafts/ joy sketches looking a little wonky proportions wise because you know you now how to fix them is such a good way of letting yourself quote on quote breath in your art. It feels nice to sit down, do a sketch and tell myself that it doesn’t have to look good. Thank you!❤ you made me realize again that art is supposed to be fun

I have that feeling too! I worked so hard to learn art, more so with a learning disability that makes it even harder to learn! But, to put it in words you said, by allowing myself to stop trying to fit the circle into the circle hole, that I just just do what I want how I want and dip right into that square hole! Nothing in art is ever perfect, that be hands, eyes, hair, ect...everything has it's own characteristics that suit only that character and we shouldn't make people feel bad if it "doesn't fit the norm"! We should embrace it for it's uniqueness! Art is a beautiful thing that even the artist themselves are unique and so should the art be :)

I'm so glad your relationship with art has improved to the point that you can feel satisfaction with what you've made so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing where your art will take you next ❤

Oh yes! I'm practicing doing different styles and I'm super glad I saw your video popped up. Thank you so much 🌸 Definitely I just enjoy seeing different shows/movies/books/game character designs and I always wanted to learn how to draw the style. I usually pay attention towards their personality too, and outfits on what they are wearing. I will definitely keep rewatching this video about Stylizing. 🌸✨🌸

June, your videos have helped me understand how to just feel confident in my art so much. Whenever I feel unsatisfied with my art, I go to watch one of your videos and just go "Oh yeah! I'm allowed to do this!" And not only do I like my art more generally but I can also see how much better quality I get! All that to say, thank you for being such a big inspiration and help in my art, even if you didn't know it!

Alright it’s probably just that I’m tired, but your little speech about being happy with where you are in your art journey brought tears to my eyes. It’s so nice to hear that the art I enjoy seeing is also enjoyed by the artist who made it!

June June June!!!! Thank you so so so much for posting this! I've been going on a similar journey with my art, but recently started doubting myself with how many mistakes I seemed to be making instead of improvements. But seeing an artist who I really admire and inspire me affire that letting go and trying to have fun over trying to draw "good" is so affirming! Thank you so much❤❤❤

Legit got bored hanging out with a friend earlier today, so I started drawing on my steno pad. Granted I’m pretty bad at drawing but I still wanted to try, looked up my state’s bird and just filled the page with a bunch of potatoes of birds. After an hour of looking at the bird, feeling the bird, -becoming the bird-, I ended up drawing a halfway decent birdie without looking at the reference photo. Who knew this event led fate to decide to bring your vid to me.

the part about not worrying about the details is so true, people notice proportions or anatomy more than some clothing being wrong or theres a messed up line

Here's a reminder that you can more than one artstyle. an art youtuber called love2drawmanga has about a couple artsyles such as her regular artstyle(which is anime inspired),her chibi elf style, her anti style,her hyper style etc

I love your new videos where you just ramble about your art and studying. I love your older style and vids too, don't get me wrong, but it makes me very happy to see just how much you've grown and to hear just how much you love what you do. I remember feeling sad that you often said how much you disliked drawings or didn't want to draw more, but this style feels so 'you' and it's made you happy. I love the new style, it's so stylized but every single line is so confident and purposeful and the colors are just gorgeous. You've actually inspired me recently to do more stylization and I often play your videos as I work to keep me goin, and it's helped so much. I also used to hate drawing and my style but now I'm very happy with it and so glad I didn't stay stuck. sorry for rambling dhsjhjsj just thought i'd share my thoughts ^^

Yknow it's funny, I've been following June since their realistic art style days. And back the I wanted a semi realistic hyper detailed style like them. As I grew older I started to appreciated art with more shape language, things like their current style and abdillustrates. I enjoy art that's more expressive instead of accurate now, and I want to enjoy art, even if I have to put off studying anatomy for it sometimes.

It's so amazing to see you go from, 'and my finished work is good enough, though I'm sure I could have done better' to now where you say, 'And all of these pieces came out and I was like, damn, I drew that' and then go on to talk about the progress you've made in relaxing into your art and having fun again. It's amazing to see you come so far. It gives me hope with my own art journey. It has ups and downs, but in the end, this is the kind of relationship with my artistic process that I want. You're an inspiration, and your journey over the years has been amazing to watch ❤❤❤❤

I’ve never understood people criticising artists for their style developing and changing over time I mean, I get that people may personally find an artist’s older or less developed style more aesthetically pleasing than the newer, more developed one that has emerged but that doesn’t mean you get to *criticise!!* Like, I personally find your older style’s shading to be rather aesthetically pleasing but I also know that your style has changed as you’ve truly come into your own. It’s been really fun and interesting watching you and your art style grow and evolve over time I just wish that everyone could see the value :T

i've been watching your videos for what, it must be 7 years now? (man that feels weird to say) and i remember back when you first started making your voiceover speedpaints how you'd mention losing the passion and love for making art. watching you slowly rediscover that joy for art in the last couple of years has been surreal. you're a huge inspiration to me and it's wonderful to see your latest stuff overflowing with excitement
