Thanks Anurag! We can't thank Prof. Paik enough for her excellent work and findings! Congratulations to her! The oppressed community truly has elevated this country. It is a shame that most of the contribution gets appropriated by upper castes and classes.

I learned about the MacArthur Genius Grant from The Big Bang Theory. India offers two contrasting examples: one involving misuse of caste benefits, like the Puja Khedkar case, and the other being Shailaja Pai, an inspiring figure studying India's ground realities.

Congratulations, really appreciated her openness to share her work. Will read her more soon..Few questions 1. 14:41 why and how, I experience it also, in distinct towns in 2022, that for being IAS you need MP connections etc. How long and what all we know about it and did to sort it ? 2. Appeciate that being with humble backgrounds you get access to English, which might helped you, is it so or not ? Is this scholarships in UK and US are open to other languages. 3. Is Dr. Bhim Rao Ambekar ji, miscalculation power of society and human meanness and end up making exploiting creamy layer who act as lobbiest and taking all perks ? 4. Isn't your last question is around copyrights laws in India. Highlighting copypate and not giving credit. Why they invite, you honor them to learn and share it with others. 5. Is lack of education or better lanuage skills or exposure of abusive words reason of vulgarity in songs or shows like roadies etc, which are inspired by tamasha . We are using words without understanding meaning and impact of its in society and that's why they are linked to caste and need corrections. What as community dalits did for it. Instead of making political parties..undergraduates and without jobs have children by collecting money on street for organising religious feast and played all sorts of song , collect money and enter in crime or cheap talks when asked to change their ways. Jain, sikh and Muslims are all from it them only and they never change there ways, eg thinking of skin, bread and entrainment...whereas higher need or better roads, giving scholarships to Europen are not in there psyche. PS. Why and how caste system discourse started in US corporates or Europen psyche.

Prof. Shailaja Paik critiques the narrative of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the twentieth century’s most influential caste abolitionist. Ambedkar places responsibility on Dalit women to uplift themselves through the rejection of sexualized performance, even if doing so causes great hardship. My point is the professions Dalit women are often forced into are deeply tied to caste-based exploitation and stigma, making it difficult for them to gain true dignity while remaining within those frameworks. Ambedkar saw the rejection of such professions as essential to Dalit women's liberation, believing that participation in practices that were historically used to demean and oppress them would hinder their ability to uplift themselves and their communities. Can dignity be achieved within a system that fundamentally devalues Dalit women’s labor and bodies? Ambedkar’s stance seems to imply that Dalit women's dignity can only be fully restored by breaking free from these caste-based, exploitative roles, which perpetuate both caste oppression and gendered violence. In this light, the idea of rejecting such professions is not about burdening Dalit women but about envisioning a pathway where they are no longer bound by roles that caste has historically imposed on them. Instead, Ambedkar encouraged economic independence through education, land ownership, and access to non-stigmatized professions as essential steps toward reclaiming dignity.

I am pretty sure in Bangladesh we use to have this art form known as Yatra/pala. I think it is gone now as Bangladesh became more fundamentalsist all form of art will disappear eventually. Good luck Bangladesh! We don't have a Shailaja Paik to remind us that art could exist anywhere. Doesn't matter upper or lower class. Thank you and your guest. Such a lively discussion. Food for thought.

Caste Matters! Also Caste Sells. Specially in the US. Jobs, grants, promotions, all these come in generous proportions if you tout the effects of caste on social life in India.
@Observance-ny7vh13 күн бұрын

As opposed to touting caste in India to get the benefits that upper caste manuwaadis have enjoyed for centuries which still continues.
@Commutinyyyy13 күн бұрын
In US, they're more aware and Willing to ensure equity of opportunities, unlike India where upper caste your their caste on every occassion just to show their caste pride. Their generational privilege accumulated by centuries of caste based atrocities is enough to keep them safe and they know this. The only thing that makes them uncomfortable and angry is when their casteist reality is called out.
