I remember watching this episode and getting so pissed at Goh. From a character building perspective, I think it did a good job at putting Goh's flaws in the forefront and having that cost him in the end. From the perspective of "shut the hell up and stop trying to be him", yeah everything bro did got me pressed. Also agree with the team ratings. Gary obvious MVP but had his moments, Ash ain't do much, Horace fell off at the end but provided vital team support and Goh...I already said my piece.

What further proves this is that later in Journey's Ash meets a wild Latios and Latias even tho we all know Tobias ( The guy who beat Ash in the Sinnoh league finals ) has a Latios and I think it's very unlikely that Tobias released his Latios. Also there's an episode from the Sinnoh era ( Only airing in Japan ) that focused on Brock after Ash left for Unova and in that episode, Brock's younger brother battles against a nurse joy with his Rhyperior only to lose when said nurse joy sends out her Latias. There's also the pokemon masters quest episodes "The mystery is history" and a promise is a promise" where a wild baby Lugia named "Silver' appears along with it's mother, a larger Lugia. Also in "The mystery is history" Ash and James of team rocket mention sees a Lugia before in the orange island thus making the second movie canon.

Nah nah hold up. Gary might have been onto something with that Flamethrower. Maybe he knew Cinderace wouldn't take too much damage from it being because Fire resists Fire. But Cinderace isn't bulky..based on how he was acting before Gardevoir healed him, he might have been pretty low health. But what if Gary did that in an attempt to trigger Blaze which only activates at low health? Or maybe i'm just giving Oak Jr too much credit. I wanna know what this Articuno was on. People bring up Noland but I think this might be the strongest we've ever seen a Legendary bird be. Gary is someone who was leaps and bounds ahead of Ash for the longest time. Caught more Pokemon, beat more gyms, and was, arguably, the better of the two for the longest time. He dabbled in Pokemon Research and as a result is a skilled battler, a cataloging capturer, and someone who is very experienced. Problem is, he's a bit of a prick, so he's not the person a lot of people want to be with or listen to. Compare him to Goh. Goh's only claim to fame is that he's really good at catching Pokemon. But that's pretty much it. He is an absolutely terrible battler, and for someone who catches Pokemon for a career, that's a quality that mixes like oil and water. He also is pretty inexperienced, or at least inexperienced enough not to know to wait for a move to come out to distinguish what move it is. Yet he still tries to be the coordinator for this raid. Add this with Ash's typical "comeback kid" strategy and Horus thinking that bringing a Bayleef to a raid where it would be at a huge disadvantage, and it's a recipe for disaster. But by far the most overwhelming flavor in this 4 course meal of no siree is Goh. He didn't listen to the voice of reason, he rushed in with his head down, he brought someone who was pretty much ensured to bring their "ace" Pokemon that was the equivalent of bringing a squirt gun against a RPG, and worst of all, he acted surprised when the clearly more competent person who has more accolades than him was right. I never thought that I would encounter someone stupider than Unova Ash in this Anime, but Goh proved me wrong.

I seriously disliked how dumb and weak they made Ash just for some Gary and Goh development. If it was Kalos Ash, he would have kicked ass left and right while guiding everyone...... cuz you know, battle experience from 7 regions.

By that logic, Ash shouldn’t have lost to a new trainer who just got their first Snivy, but we all know how that went. If Pokemon was purely logical, you’d be right. But Pokemon has never been logical. Ash will be incompetent for five seasons and then suddenly gain all of the experience he should’ve had the whole time and be good for a season before becoming Trash Ketchum again out of nowhere. He has ALWAYS been inconsistent, so I don’t understand how you were expecting otherwise.
