DGM is one of my main art inspiration! honestly even in the beginning of the manga you could tell Hoshino did have a vision and knew exactly what she wanted to do. The art in the last few chapters is wonderful, but it still holds the same vision and aesthetic of the first few volumes which is amazing. Some of the series lose this "visual aesthetic" that was in the beginning of their story in favor of drawing something better/ amazing. btw thanks for giving this manga a spotlight!

I think of D Gray Man's art a lot as Square Enix designs. When D Gray starts the art reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, with more captivating designs, bigger eyes and a certain FMA vibe. But when the story tightens, a more Final Fantasy look mixed with Death Note and Angel Sanctuary enters the art is more detailed and darker even if the colors are FF is a very stylish art, it just didn't convince me to invest in the narrative because I have many to read. Good relaxing video with art upgrade.

Aaah thank you so much for this video, its something i didnt know i craved until now 💚 Its so amazing to see a piece of art/a series, or rather an artist, evolve like this. Especially for a long running series like dgm it feels like it grew up alongside me and vice versa. With some media it feels like you remember it with rose tinted glasses and when you actually see it again you're shocked that it doesnt look as good as you remember it. But with dgm its different, the newer chapters always look the way the older ones seem to look in my memories, yet i am constantly in awe how much the series changed. Not just in looks but also story and depth....

I honestly think she must have had a journey of finding what works for her at least a little shaped by the hiatuses etc. Also because as a disabled person I find her art so good for representing different disabled people! It's there in Allen's Crown clown(he literally levels up by just going one armed with a weapon like...), Marie's blindness(where he's not a simple super hearing because disabled situation, he had a life before losing sight in adulthood that shapes his abilities and notably even gets drawn with non stereotypical eyes for a blind character sometimes), the strength Lenalee continues to show after losing so much mobility because of the limits of dark boots being reached, even casual shots of Johnny in a wheelchair as he's recovering. I love how she portrays disability throughout despite having no idea what her intentions or thoughts on these things are.

This series absolutely needs an anime reboot. Bc of all the hiatuses and breaks, it would be extremely difficult for new viewers and audiences to pick up this story, especially after so much time between seasons. A reboot now, would definitely boost its popularity and would help garner a bigger audience. Not to mention that this series NEEDS to be redone, preferably by a better studio. We need a new slate, to reintroduce this series as an anime again, rather than trying to salvage what we have while missing important and impactful moments the anime chose to omit.
