The thing I love most about One's art is that it's the level of bad that it ends up being inspirational. You can look at some of the best manga artists in the world and think "I can never be like that" there is that feeling of if it's not perfect it's not worth it. However, you look at One, that idea disappears and it makes you want to go create your own comic even if your art might not be the best.

I think it is also worth mentioning how ONE has actually improved after years of practice. In the first chapters and arcs, he already had the vision in terms of storyboard, but the drawings were really sketchy. In the latest chapters, while the technique itself is still amateurish, the quality of the illustrations themselves is much better: faces are expressive, shading with cross hatching well used and the anatomy of the characters is no longer that off as it used to be.

I'm dissapointed you didn't mention the fact that the original one punch man is in fact a web manga. Being a mangaka is extremely tough work, and pretty much the only way to be popular/sell any copies is to be signed at a publishing company. At least over in japan, webtoons, which are mostly korean manwha share a different story. But, just the sheer fact that one punch man is so good, that it took off as an web manga is a mountainous accomplishment.

I think "Baki The Grappler" manga by Keisuke Itagaki would make a great "evolution" or retrospective video. The change in quality from chapter 1 to current volumes is astounding. I believe the art depicting the human body, internal and external, as well as his ability to draw how a human body looks and moves in real life so expertly would make a great video.

Fantastic video! This is an interesting subject I haven't really seen tackled about OPM. But it's true that there is something very, very unique about that dynamic, a lot ot do with their friendship. Murata's style also just works with One's sense of humour from what I've seen from their other short collaborative works. I can't wait for the scene where Saitama picks his nose for a full page spread. I can already tell that Murata's trying to build up all the characters, all the threats for that one moment. It really blew me away when I first read it and is probably one one the jokes that have made me laugh the most, ever, due to the sheer relief the following panel creates.

3:33 A lot of webtoons get rereleased with updated art like this, actually. Because of the way the website works, authors who have proven themselves popular in the unpaid section get a chance to go back after they've improved their art skills and release their comic again for money, making use of the expertise they've accumulated after the first go.

plus sometimes Murata's interpretations of the original kind of miss the point sometimes like there's a even blend of severity and comedy in a lot of moments in OPM and sometimes it gets lost and there's some parts where tatsumaki/tornado looks all sexed up when like. it fits the moment way more for her to keep the gremlin look lol

It's cool thinking about it like this. ONE isn't very artistic, but his storytelling and humorous jokes he tells when you're reading One Punch Man keeps you hooked onto it. The characters he develops with each chapter is so satisfying, and it's hard not to enjoy reading it. He is the *personality* of OPM. Now, Murata wasn't the one who created the story, and some would agree that he isn't the best storyteller, but you can clearly see how much of a professional he is when it comes to drawing. He is the *appearance* of OPM.

This reminds me of Ryukishi07's visual novels. Whenever he makes a new vn he draws all the sprites himself and they are really shotty but kind of charming. Like OPM, the amateur drawings aren't good but the writing is amazing, and later they both got full reduxes with much better art.
@kingcrimson4133
@kingcrimson4133 2 жыл бұрын
I personally think Ryukishi's art has a lot more soul in it than the updated art. When I first read through Higurashi, it was on the Steam release which had the choice between the original and updated art. I played with the updated art because at first glance it was an obvious decision, but I quickly found that the updated art was simply soulless. It was shiny and glossy and clean and the characters all look like they're staring into space without a thought in their head. Meanwhile, Ryukishi's character art is thrumming with personality, and his skill at conveying precise emotion through facial expression is unmatched. I switched to his artwork and fell in love with it, and I haven't looked back. Though I will say that the PS3 sprites for Umineko do a pretty good job of translating Ryukishi's style in a more skilled way. His art for Ciconia, meanwhile, looks better than ever, and I'm excited to see how it will evolve going forward.

@@kingcrimson4133 personally I absolutely love the ps3 sprites for Umineko. They are, in my opinion, the best possible sprites for Umineko. They also have the improved backgrounds and superb voice acting befitting of what is, in my opinion, the best piece of fiction of all time. Higurashi on the other hand has a pretty subpar track record with the updated sprites. The sprites aren't bad, but they are a tad uninspired.

And i think he is struggling with his devine passion and determination and his art...he will probably improve more...he is a good artist with that being keo at mind... Amazingly done. Even as mostly an anime-only fan, I've already digged a bit into what's next in the OPM manga and especially webcomic, since the manga is a little bit behind, and both the art (WC included) and story seem to remain at a very high level. Anyway, I watched S1 for the first time around 2018 and I was obviously blown away, but not just for the visuals but also pretty much everything else. It's both an awesome, funny and relatable series with mostly memorable characters. And I was a mildly out of the loop with anime in general when S2 came out so I didn't catch up too much with it and the "drama" the studio change generated. Though I think it kinda exposes some unreasonable expectations and a "watching only for the cool visuals" mentality of a few audiences, something that still lingers on to this day when measuring the general reach and popularity of other action anime. I eventually watched S2 earlier this year after getting back into OPM I'm general and it was a lot better than it's given credit for. Some cut corners were very evident but the new studio did a fairly decent job in keeping the engagement and likability of the non-visual aspects of the series, to the point where I've already digged into the afromentioned manga/WC future story details because I liked enough what I saw. For the better of the series and it's qualities, I'm hoping that whoever studio ends up making S3 and beyond can wow audiences to a similar degree as S1 and the Mob Psycho anime, since I think OPM truly deserves a renowned recognition. Also, I've noticed that you showcased a lot of Tatsumaki panels from both versions. Guess she's a favorite. I don't blame you; even if she can be very stubborn and crazy, she's just as charming, ethereal, funny and even relatable to an extent.

One Punch Man has the best artwork I've ever seen. Granted I just got into reading and collecting manga regularly but OPM has always left me jaw dropped and with a tear in my eye. this would have had more impact if it were focused on the evolution of the original artists art and not just the early chapters of it vs the redraws for the manga because i think that its ignoring muratas influence own one's own art in his orignial webcomic and how it changes over time and not just comparing one's early work to murata who's style was already perfected long before he started work on one punch man

Which got me going back and forth between the panel and be like "wait how did that happen?" lol. Fortunately it didnt bother me that much since i am kinda a slow reader type of guy bcoz i like to admire the detail artwork from each panel.
