AH the series that I remember, I use to watch it with my Dad when I was little, Every Night on KPIX Ch.5 in San Francisco, Now I am 68, and still living in San Francisco, This series was way Better than Nash Bridges....

Dragnet was a BIG hit for NBC in the 1950s usually in the top ten . In fact during its early years the show was right behind I Love Lucy in the ratings . Another fact that Desi Arnaz had a Desilu produced police procedural that took place in San Francisco called The Lineup from 1954 to 1960 with fatherly Warner Anderson and muscle Tom Tully doing their thing .

I realize that this series did not build into its overall plan any sort of 'follow-up' tag, after the case was concluded or 'solved, and that 1955 represents a much different world as compared to 2021, at least in the superficial day-to-day activities. Yet with an episode like this, it would have allowed for a more conclusive end to the story than simply that the perpetrator was caught. Tol Avery, who went on to have quite a career in television, played the unbalanced criminal in this episode. It is an interesting program to be able wo watch. Thank you for posting these episodes.

You’re welcome. I find this episode interesting in that they let the perp incriminate himself at length at the end when they catch him at the Fisherman’s Wharf Grotto. Granted, he wasn’t yet under arrest, but in today’s world where the Miranda Rights need to be read, I doubt what the detectives did here (by letting him blather on without as much as a warning) would be considered acceptable.

@@rschreck You're right. I noticed that, too. I was glad they didn't just shoot him. In this show, the two detectives are so rigid in their portrayal, and that's just what was the style around the mid-1950's. It seems a lower-budget show, but at that time, what was 'high bidget'? I guess 'I Love Lucy', Burns and Allen', Jack Benny. Elsewhere I commented about the composer. It turns out he was a very big successful theater organist - an organist, but one who specializes in the quirks of theater organs. You can't tell that from this program's music. And this episode had some _very_ interesting music in places.

I do have a memory of an epilogue but maybe that's another show I'm thinking of ? Jeannette Nolan was always good with accents, she played Nicolette in the radio Soap Opera , ONE MAN'S FAMILY. At Aquatic Part in '54 or '55, they were shooting THE LINE UP, and actor David McBride was sitting on the bench joking with us on-lookers. It seemed once I was going home from the Sea Scouts, that Saturday evening THE LINE UP would come on ? Only 20 episodes are left. I have one that is the 1960 version, that the actor that was in the episode posted it in segments on KZbin. Susan Oliver is featured in it. I'm afraid in losing it, so I better make a spare copy. They had 190 episodes, and they dumped most of them, the show was popular for 6 years, that's a long time for a tv show, THEY screwed up !!! People ask for it all the time, that's why there are a ton of Bootlegs... The movie version is a Classic too. EBAY sells some of the episodes. I may watch some of the episodes today and get my nostalgia on.

They had 190 episodes, what happened ? Only 20 left ? It was on for over 5 years, I thought that would be enough for syndication , like others that lasted 3 or 4 years. (Someone goofed)
