The Atari Panther was once going to be Atari's answer to the 32-bit era. This powerful console would have been released in 1991 alongside the Super Nintendo and would have had specs more than 3 times as powerful as the then released 16-bit Super Nintendo.
Ultimately, the ill-fated Atari Jaguar would come to overshadow the Atari Panther entirely, and unfortunately, the Panther's development fell to the wayside as the Atari Jaguar became Atari's dominant console concept. As development on the Jaguar continued, the Panther development was cancelled, and Atari rushed their "64-bit" Jaguar to market - ahead of schedule, and in my opinion, unfinished. Due to this fact, the Atari Jaguar is now a forgotten relic, with the Panther itself relegated to an even lower position - a half remembered and always forgotten footnote of video game history.
