Sailing La Vagabonde

Sailing La Vagabonde

Күн бұрын

La Vagabonde made it across the Atlantic to the Caribbean! 2300 nm (17 days at sea for us) and we couldn't be happier with how it all went. A few squalls, flying fish, a lot of Dorados (luckily, or I never would have been forgiven for losing the first one..). Stay tuned for Part 2 - Apart from an awesome chocolate cake (if I don't say so myself) 'half way day' celebrations was followed by a few dramas for us ...
We hope you enjoy! Thanks so much for those Subscribers following our voyage and for those supporting us on Patreon. It is YOU who make these videos possible.

One of my good friends disappeared at sea after fallling overboard 300mi fom Bermuda. We have tons of pictures sailing together wearing our harnesses, but that day, he didn't wear it. Wind was blowing under 10 kts and seas were calm. No one ever found him, even the coastguard from a plane. One has to be conscious that falling overboard is an imminent death sentence. Please take care my friends and thanks for the videos.

simon beliveau I crossed the Atlantic twice with my wife and kids. Naturally I have done much thinking about safety. My obvious question is "why did you not turn around and pick him up?". I get the thought that he was lost overboard without anyone noticing him.

+LOLLYPOPPE Being born is out of one's control. Once born hopefully one gains some wisdom to prolong one's life. Wearing a harness when stepping outside the safety lines would help to this end. Dying at sea, alone, would be some awful suffering. Be careful. As Simon (above) mentioned, falling overboard is almost a guaranteed death sentence.

Yep, even at that speed, you simply won't reach the boat anymore. Some of the men sailing around the world are always pulling several long line after the boat, hoping that they would be abled to catch onto one of them if they fell overboard.

I now realize why Riley was feeling so nervous and apprehensive in the beginning he literally had both your lives in his hands he was responsible for the both of you your safety and well being was solely on him. That's a lot of pressure.

+Sailing La Vagabonde Very disgusting the complete disregard for safety. It's as if you think if someone goes overboard, she'll be right, just turn the boat around. Try throwing a soccer ball over n see how long u can keep it in view while you turn the boat around. Standing on the aft deck to catch that fish with no safety lines is just irresponsible. Love the channel, but it'd gut me to hear one of you guys was lost, because of stupidity!

Jon Kallenbach It's very easy. KZbin gives you 55% of all ad revenue from the ads on the channel. On top of that, there is fan funding on the channel. On top of that there is Patreon. Where viewers choose to donate so much per video. This gives them lots of nice lovely money to support their project. Then there's sponsors. With a popular YT channel, there are lots of ways to make money. Finally, you only have to watch the video. Only someone who is paranoid would suspect it's all fake. It's not! People sail around the world all the time. That the biggest KZbinr, Pewdiepie. He makes (as of 2015) $7 million per year! There is a lot of money in being a YT creator!

Jon Kallenbach Look. Some people are just happy. Some people who are happy and confident and adventuresome, sail the seas. If you're happy, then any relationships you have tend to be happy, and seem to an outsider, perfect. Questioning the validity of something is a great thing. However you are taking that into places that is not healthy. I would love it if you went and talked to a doctor about it. You might find yourself happier. :) Cheers

guess I'll add my two. I remember one bright and sunny day at sea. Winds light and seas less than two feet. I was in the navy where we regularly had MOB drills with a 150 pound international orange floating person sized dummy. While on deck (about 40 ft above the water) I watched the dummy heaved over my head and MOB drill called. We had almost fifty people watching within a few minutes. The dummy was never recovered. Perfect conditions, immediate warning, brightly painted. Captain came on the speaker (1MC). "Folks, Don't ever fall overboard. It's a lonely way to die."

Moments of despair are often funny when looking back and make for great stories and memories. Even better when they're followed by triumph. Case in point would be the fish jumping out of the boat. Riley's look of defeat and Elayna's uncomfortable laugh... this is pure fucking art.

All the best to you three....

Hi guys! Quick tip for the dorado/dolphin/Mahe Mahe. Someone mentioned you can cover their heads when they go nuts on board, another trick is to wrap the leader around its tail so it's secured in a banana shape. That makes it a bit easier to "dispatch" it with less fuss. Love your work.

knut761 I'm a grown up, likely way older than you, and I make idiotic decisions on a daily basis. But I am not sailing in the middle of an ocean. Nay, these are very good people on this boat and those who have respect for the sea and love for these folks can't help but raise caution.

bkbball22 I respect your opinion fully, but I don't think you fully understand the nature of what they are doing and have done. Why have an adventure of a lifetime only to die because you didn't take a few more precautions. I refuse to criticize Riley and Elayna, but I object to those who object to those who are just trying to keep them as safe as possible.

I'd recommend a dan buoy too, I haven't seen one mounted on the stern rail where it should be. Nice to have buoyant smoke flares too. It's good to drill MOB too, using a fender with a coil of rope. Seeing them fighting fish and lines on that chop without even closing the stern did make me a little bit anxious. A MOB in these conditions is really challenging and without training, 99% chance of never finding the body. That said I'm loving the vids and I will try to be a bore just this one time in this thread that shouldn't be too visible to those not caring.

Got off track for a few days. #7. A whole bunch more to go. Love the fishing in this one, as I'm sure you did. Incredible catches, and good dining. And of course she would have been forgiven regardless.

Awesome video! Reminds me of a boat delivery job I did, but just down Florida's East coast, minus the girl. Luv living life though your vedios!

Riley's hand was on the pole also when the fish got away. It wasn't just Elayna's fault.

If you keep one Dorado in the water while fishing, at least half of the school will follow it and you can catch a few Dorados. Maybe you have a fridge? Catch 'em up!

The Seaweed is called Sargassum. FYI if you get tired of Mahi, you an put a small one down deep and likely hook up a wahoo, but you need to use wire as Wahoo have wicked teeth.

@ 4:08 when you play that clip of the derodo it was cought at 4:00 exactly the miles he went missing. Looked like he had done that before. Wasn't his first boat to flop off of. He was like no way you ain't getting me on that boat !!! Lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hey guys great to see you all safe and well, having heaps of fun. Its what this trip is about afterall, but yes I too can't help thinking a safety harness, especially when catching those awesome doritos makes huge sense. I pissed myself laughing I must admit when that first fish went AWOL ! Looking forward to the second installment of the Atlantic Crossing - epic !! Fair winds and smooth seas.
