Hi Guys, with the not being able to see the light house at the distance stated on a chart, you will only see a light flashing at the distance it says on a chart when you are on the bridge of a ship which is several meters higher. Charts are designed primarily for ship use. Being lower down, about 2 meters off the water will reduce the distance at which you will see the light. There is actually a formula that can be used to give a fix (distance) when you first see the light.

Rewatching this first crossing after viewing the Rapido shakedown cruise from hell, amazed at how comparatively straightforward this trip was, with the biggest problems one broken spinnaker and a lost catch. Great to see how you've grown in competence and wisdom and still have the adventuring spirit!

Wrote this on your Facebook page, but thought I would share it here too... Hark, now hear the sailors cry, smell the sea, and feel the sky let your souls & spirits fly, into the mystic...You shall watch the ferry's, as they get high, on a bluer ocean against tomorrow's sky. And you will never grow so old again, as you walk and talk, in gardens all wet with rain...Go small, go simple, go now..You can't control the wind but you can adjust the sail..Into the mystic you shall remain... Enjoy the ride...
@Mr1jimmer9 жыл бұрын
No, I wish I did..It's beautiful,,,It's from a Van Morrison song "Into the Mystic"..It just reminds me of what you guy's are doing, I like the part .You can't control the wind but you can adjust the sail..it is so true.. If you have a chance listen to the song on KZbin...Happy sailing...

As a young couple, the friends that have shared fun yet very serious sailing with you, prove you and yours are indeed unique. Many of your "sailing adventures" have often been, " a bit dangerous" , and these "friends" have assisted you a great deal. A reminder how many great things can not be accomplished alone. You two are very intelligent and creative individuals, continue to enjoy your special lives!

Glad you had such a nice passage across the Atlantic (minus the broken halyard and winch issues), but mostly calm and pleasant seas. We did the same crossing just a few weeks before you (left Gran Canaria on Dec 18 2014) and had nothing but 35 knot winds and 3-5 meter seas from the Verdes over to the Caribbean. Definitely a wild ride for us. Loved Jack's sweet little goodbye speech too, it must have been really nice to have him on the crossing with you.

Raleigh has got the coolest eyes I just started watching these guys a couple months ago and I really like them both they're good looking but not conceited. They are both very nice people. I think they are my favorite KZbinrs. When I first click on I had no idea that people actually live on boats all the time. I know that stupid but no Idea. It's really cool that they take us along with them.

Hi guys you're very brave and I love your video but please be careful! The sea is not a joke! People prepare theirself and the boat for years to have an Atlantic crossing safely! What if the jib sail broke up too? Did you have another one? and did you have enough water \food in this case? what if while you're catching fish from stern you fall into the sea?(it's happened to me) you're not bound and no lifebelt! Please be careful we want to see more video and continue dreaming with you! Best luck! Max
