He's smart and eager to figure out what i want but because he has almost completely black eyes i find it hard to see what he's looking at and mark the behaviour on wrong time. 🥺 Edit. Sorry for my broken English 😅
@kikopup4 жыл бұрын
It can be really really hard for some dogs, and really really easy for some dogs. You could begin where you are putting the treat further away and clicking the head turn in your direction first. you can also put a treat down near his paws and click the lifting motion as his head lifts up after the treat when you are standing in front of him with your hands behind your back so you click his head moving up to look at you while there is no treat there to stare at.

Okay, this is actual magic! I'm inspired to try this with my high prey drive dog! We've been struggling with calmness in an outdoor environment in general, mostly because she spends the whole time scanning the area for potential prey. She pretty much spends her entire walk in a crouching/stalking position to try to sneak up on birds. XD It's super rare for her to just walk at a relaxed gait outside of our yard (after chasing all the squirrels and birds out). Where can I find the one about teaching calmness in the presence of prey? Is it in the membership, or the Video On Demand section?

What a neat idea - I never thought of attention noises - pr using attention noises to interrupt unwanted behaviors. Your training skills are awesome the way the two older dogs lay on couch and do not jump off or otherwise try to get treats while you are training the pup. You can use the name of the puppy too. I like to train the attention noise because we cant put any annoyed or angry emotions into it, when say they are chewing on the couch. Also clients tend not to repeat the noise as much as they do the dogs name in everyday speech.

Hello! I absolutely love your videos and am trying them out on my dog, mostly because I really prefer the positive reinforcement method than other training methods. I would just like to ask, may I know what to do if your dog really won't look at you when you make the attention noise? Do you keep making noises until they look up or do you just wait? I've been trying the latter and my puppy just gets frustrated at how long it takes to get the treat. And if you have a variety of attention noises, will this be an issue when repeatedly reinforcing the behavior? Thank you so much! I'm sorry for the barrage of questions. This is the first time I'm seriously training a dog and I honestly have no idea what I'm doing huhuhu.

I would also like to know this. Im getting frustrated because my dog lackadaisically wanders over and sits to look up at me and receive a treat when I'm training. Then when I actually need her attention the sound has no affect and continues whatever she was up to. Who's training who haha?

I can't stop admiring how calm and "turned off" the rest of the dogs are. Even when you are making smooching noises. How did you teach them to know when to react to these noises and when to ignore these? Do you use the exact same clicker for each dog? And the same recall/attention cue? Do you have any video on that topic? I'm curious as hell.

I just got a 11 week old puppy 1 week ago and I’m worried I’m gonna mess her up!😰 I know I’m not a pro trainer so I’m not gonna be perfect but how do I know if I’m doing the right thing or progressing properly? At this stage of life where should she be with potty training, name recognition and recall, Trick training, and crate training? If she’s whining in her crate when it’s time to settle down do I just let her whine for the 8 minutes it takes for her to sleep? How many times should she be getting up to go to the bathroom at night?
@Hitman-md3mp4 жыл бұрын
You make everything look too easy! Hopefully I’m able to to put what you’ve taught me into practice
@kikopup4 жыл бұрын
You cant really do much wrong at all, if you are trying. The genetics, what happened in the womb and the first 8 weeks defines mostly who the puppy is...you cant mess up much unless there is some issue the pup came with. Don't worry too much. Most people who are the worriers end up being the most attentive and being proactive when they see problems so relax and also enjoy having a puppy! All puppies are different some puppies sleep the whole night and dont need to get up. I have the puppy in a crate next to my pillow and just get up if the puppy wakes and whines, if not I keep sleeping. My puppy doesnt need to go to the bathroom at night but some puppies do. I suggest sitting next to the pen to help the puppy calm down and relax. Really reinforcing go to the bed and lie down is a great exercise to get the puppy to think to lay down when in the pen. Puppies do whine. They bark and they bite. Its all normal and it happens from time to time.
@TeslaNick24 жыл бұрын
It can be overwhelming in the early days. It's all normal. Puppy needs plenty of low stress time to settle in and adjust (decompress) so keep any training brief and loads of fun. At this stage the training should be all about bonding and teaching puppy how to learn, not looking for any kind of precision or reliability. General attitude and making myself awesome to be around is my primary aim. Best of luck and keep us updated !

Idk what to do 😩 my puppy is WAY too excited for treats. He’s starting to do this thing where he rushes to do the action and gets frustrated when I don’t give him the treat quick enough. He knows I keep treats in my hand so I can’t even hide them. And his “sits” are too hyper. He’s not still, he moves a lot & when I go to reward him, he gets up & reaches for the treat. I’m trying to treat him when he settles too but he knows the treat is coming & gets up. I can’t even sneak up on him when he’s chilling. I need help 😢
@melissadevera91133 жыл бұрын
Use low value food to capture calmness, like laying down, playing with an appropriate toy, sitting next to you in a calm state or offering a desirable behavior. Perhaps use your dogs kibble, carrot, lettuce. Try Saying “all done” while showing your hands so you can try to convince your dog that you have no more treats. You want to make sure your dog isn’t thinking about the food and then reward .

The secret is watch how many tiny treats she gets for doing "nothing" in between the training, these are reinforcing her for waiting and reducing frustration and keeping hte rate of reinforcement in the training session through the roof, so if I mess up during the actual training shes already quite satisfied from whats going on while shes waiting to learn.

With a tiny dog like this, you really have to use most of their food. I cook the food so its messy. You can soak kibble to make it easier to break, you can also buy toy dog sized kibble if you have a larger breed puppy and use those as treats. I used boiled chicken as well as the cooked food

Do you think it's important the dog really looks in your face for this exercise to make sense? I bought the leash walking course from you and my shelter dog struggles with this exercise lot, no matter what noise/breathing sound I make, he doesn't look at all, just when he is maybe 1-2m away from me . My theory is that he comes too close to me for the food (on his own) and he then shows the looking-away-appeasement-signal, which of course isn't ideal when I try to teach him looking at me, haha. Do you have any idea what to do in that case? I also tried to throw away the food to give him space, but he runs back too fast and is then again too close to me. Any help would be appreciated!
@kikopup4 жыл бұрын
You could try with no food on you. You are sitting on the couch etc, and you talk to your dog, or make cute noises while hes relaxed, and if he looks up at you say a marker word then get up to get a treat. It will take a few days and repetitions. Some dogs 1 either just dont think to look up and 2 some cant look up when there is food. Or both. Little dogs sometimes get more info from the rest of our body than our face so don't need to look at our faces. But getting a dog to look at your face you can then give them info. Say out on a walk they are worried about something you can ask them to look at you and then you can smile and blink to show you are not worried. Rather than them fixating on stuff and getting more freaked out or excited.
