The Audi R8 has a big design problem

I think the audi is more of a daily driver while the Lambo is more the weekend car. The green house of the r8 is almost identical to the TT, very upright and surprisingly comfortable. The lambo is brutal in every way.

Everything you’ve said is wrong. The R8 AWD performance has 620 HP. I’ve owned both cars R8 is a much better daily driver. You are comparing a base R8 to a AWD Evo big price difference between both. You gotta compare it with performance model R8.

I embrace the current design and wouldn't want the lambo body lines on the R8. My point is I embrace the differences in cars given electrification is causing car to loose character and look as if they were designed by the same team with different touches. The R8 is perfect and I don't think it's a problem because if it wasn't boxy with hard lines and the signature grill it would be a generic and not an Audi.

Definitely agree with what you said about the 'velocity' of the design on both cars. However I still like the R8 more. I'm just not a fan of sharp Lamborghini lines on all their cars really. In general, I prefer curvier cars like Ferraris and Porsches. And lemme just mention how good the rear end is on the R8, so classy, yet very modern. Really dig that part of the car.

@@TheEryk03 Honestly, when I look at the blacked out diffuser versus the body-colored one, I think the opposite of what Bembli thinks. I think that the black makes it look like the shadow of the car stretches upwards, which makes it look higher IMO. The color shows where the bottom of the car really is, which is very low.

The original R8 was beautiful. It was my favourite car back in the day. The flowing and curved lines matched the overall "softer" design. The new one has too many sharp edges and straight lines without the overall design being made for that. Now it feels like it's trying to be a lambo. I don't know design terminology but that's the best way I can describe it.

I just fall in love again and again with Lamborghinis, no matter how many times I try to become a JDM lover cool car guy, Lambos are so too beautiful 😍 too beautiful! My favorite Lambo is the Aventador 704, but the Huracane is also so beautiful that I'm almost jealous of it! I can almost feel the beauty of Lamborghinis, it's a kind of gut twisting feeling when I look at it, can't describe, as if it has a physical effect on my body!! Such a piece of art!

audi has reached the pinnacle of their design on previous (roughly speaking) gens of their cars, it was very difficult to improve from there and they didn't make it. the same goes for the r8. that said, I don't think new r8 looks bad, or that it has a big design problem.

IMO if they increased the 'hips' on the R8 it would go a VERY long way to giving it an accelaration/aggressive look while also tying it back to the seductive hips of the exotic sports back back in the 60-80s.

For me personally the most perfect version is the first gen Audi R8. Around 2014-2015 before the refresh. Give me that with a V8 and I'll be good. Purpose of the two vehicles are entirely different. Lamborghinis are like backless chaps. An R8 is like a tailored suit. I'm glad that they're so different. Lamborghini is very much like "look at me!!!!" The R8 especially the first gen, how's the phrase go - "Beautiful things don't ask for attention".

The treatment of the greenhouse section does bug me with the R8. Especially since they separated the, let's call it, "back-side window" panel and the panel over the big vent to the side. Separating those and replacing them with 2 short, straight angles make the car look taller and overall less sporty.

He is the kind of guy that likes smooth line flow where it makes sense, which is on every car EXCEPT for Lamborghinis. It only makes sense on a Lamborghini to look raw and aggressive and all up in your face. I am not sure if it is a lineflow thing or something else, but that is just my take on why he likes the Huracan Evo so much.

Great styling doesn't necessarily mean less, smoother lines. The Huracan and the Aventador both have a lot of lines and great flow. The Fenyr SuperSport has a lot of lines and horrible flow.

That big differnce for the audi r8 v10 plus is a 4 second difference around the Nurburgring granted that's not the base model r8 while base modeling the hurican. Also a shelby gt350 gets similar track times to an r8.

R8 V10 Performance is 620 BHP vs Huracan EVO AWD 640 BHP, but neither output that actual BHP. They’re mechanically identical, too - their maps are different, so a custom map would yield the same performance. The Huracan Performante has a few mechanical differences, but also “outputs 640 BHP” which is the most of any Huracan (factory). However, it will dyno at close to 600 BHP (slightly above, but not the quoted 640 BHP). WHP is what matters most, anyways, and that’s why you’ll find the NA supercars losing to many FI supercars handedly.

I think the new Audi TT has some of the best design language that wasn’t quite Perfected in the R8, but the r8 is a beautiful super car that’s a little more luxury than sporty in comparison to the lambo

I think the design of the R8 OS a consequence of what it is. The R8 is the more refined, more practical V10 car that Audi sells. It’s more of a grand tourer wrapped in a supercar body, akin 2 the McLaren GT. The Lambo is the less practical, more extreme type of car. The Lambo was specifically designed 2 get a kick out of the ppl who experience it, whether that experience b through their eyes, or in the cockpit. 2 get that emotional response, the Lambo has been designed 2 b a perpetual motion machine, as even at a standstill, it’s still moving. The Audi on the other hand still has the expectation 2 b an Audi: smooth, refined, and reliable. While I do agree that the 2015 Audi R8 is still much more emotional, I think this design is a bit more fitting of the car

@George Costanza I think the current R8 can compare to the STANDARD C8 in the rear, but not the new Z06. I think the new Z06 is much more comparable to the original Lamborghini Aventador. You'd have to actually see it to agree, so go ahead and look up a side-by-side of the two. The resemblance is definitely there.

The 2018 R8 is my favorite year. The front end is less busy. This seems like a case of Italian flair verses Germany's more reserved aesthetics. Since reserved design is more my personality, I see the more "static" features as a plus over the aggressive lines of the Lambo.

In my opinion the second generation R8 was the best. The first generation looked toyish and like it melted, now the third generation just looks ridiculous and childish, much like the Huracan. The second generation looked technical, clinical, very geometric and clean, no unnecessary things on the car, absolutely perfect for a german AWD supercar, function over form. Which in itself gives everything on the car a purpose, which is beautiful. In my opinion the only Lamborghini currently on sale I would consider good looking is the Huracan Evo RWD, as it's front is nice and simple and not as busy and overstyled as other Lamborghinis. The Miura was a beautiful and simple design, similar to the Gallardo. The RWD Huracan carries a bit of the same energy. The Aventador, Huracan and Urus on the other hand make my eyes bleed every time I see one. Unlike Ferrari, Maserati or Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini as lost even the slightest sense of beauty at this point. But it fits most of their customers, so they follow the demand.

You may be a good designer or analyser but you dont understand business. It is INTENTIONAL - they cannot make 2 identical cars, they must SEPERATE them in some way, e.g. design, price, appeal etc. So it is intentional that R8 is a bit cheaper, more luxury version and Huracan is more sporty and lighter and costs more. It has to do with marketing and with product palette, not with bad design of R8.
