Bought a 2021 RS5 about 5 months ago and couldn't agree more with your review. I was in between this and the new M3 and while the M3 in my opinion sounded better and felt more grounded, I couldn't convince myself that it would be a GREAT daily driver. The RS5 is an absolutely perfect daily, its comfortable, fast enough when you need it, and in my opinion looks absolutely beautiful. Living in LA I actually use the lane keep assist + adaptive cruise control quite often which automatically puts you into Audi's traffic jam assist.This alone sets it apart from the competition IMO. The car will come to a complete stop and push you along the highway which takes away the stress of LA traffic. My biggest gripe so far of owning the car would be the lack of overall sound, yes it sounds great outside, but inside you tend to forget you're driving an actual sports car. Last thing, I think you hit the nail on the head with the price, I was able to get mine for around $85k without a lot of the needless options. It still came with everything you would want, 360 camera, full driver assistance pack, sports exhaust, etc. Overall, for anyone in the market, you definitely won't have any buyers remorse if you're looking for the perfect daily.

Re: the farting sounds I have looked into this as my car makes the same noises (M2 Competition 6-speed.) I believe the sounds are the modern version of blow off valve sounds. According to BMW my car does not have BOV, instead BMW overlaps the valves off throttle. By holding both the exhaust and intake valves open for a brief moment, the car can blow the pressurized wave of air directly through the cylinders. This has the added benefit of also keeping the turbo(s) spooled once the pressure wave hits the exhaust side of the turbos after passing through the engine. I believe the actual fart sound is air going through the cylinders in succession with no combustion. I suspect Audi VW do something similar and that "DSG fart" is a bit of a misnomer.
@GregMcNamer3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's what is happening, at least on the Audi/VW side. The older engines make that noise and don't have the valvetrain ability to do what you're explaining (I don't think). The noise is the pause of ignition, which helps the engine drop revs very quickly with some unburnt, perfectly mixed exhaust ready to combust in the header(s), which then quickly burns and make the noise.
@mercedesbenzisbest3 жыл бұрын
That noise is from cutting timing and spark when shift happens so transmission is unharmed

Biggest problem with the rs5 sport back is the s4 and s5 get all the best parts of the car: same interior, same virtual cockpit, same massaging seats, very similar engine (single turbo vs twin). The only real differences are the wide body and 100hp. Which isn’t enough to justify $25-30k premium. Earlier this year I was in the market for an rs5 spot back but they were all $70k so I got a 2019 s4 with sport diff instead and just kept my previous e92 m3 comp around instead of trading it in. It's a lovely car. Audi knows exactly where this car falls in the automotive lineup they offer and what other brands offer. Audi is always going to be unable to really max the potential of the 'sporting' capabilities of their cars as long as Volkswagen AG is producing Porsche vehicles. Remember that Porsche has a majority stake in Volkswagen AG. Sidenote though, except for the performance you're essentially comparing an A5 to an A7. There is a significant difference from the luxury standpoint. Just sitting in both for 10 seconds will make that obvious. So you're not just paying for a larger car that's more expensive and not as much fun.
@jsquared10133 жыл бұрын
The other thing with the "sporting potential" is plain old physics. Audi will never be able to totally match BMW/Merc with the driving dynamics as long as they keep the front diff in the transaxle (and thus the entire engine forward of the front axle line). It's been improved in the last generation or two by swapping the position of the clutch(es) and diff so that the block is a few inches closer to the axle centerline, but it will still always be more nose-heavy than something like a RWD car, or even an AWD BMW or Merc whose diff is alongside the engine (although that setup is also not totally ideal).

I've had a 2018 Audi RS5 since 2019, 4 years as of 7-16 and I completely agree with the awful Lane Assistance, it is always pushing me left or right and once in awhile when passing vehicles it will push me aggressively towards the other vehicle. I think the shadows between the cars cause it to lose sight of the lines and it freaks the computer out. I think you should have let the car do the launch control instead of trying to do a "brake assist" launch. , but the computer is always basing the its next move on what you were doing a minute ago, so if you are driving nice it will not launch you as much as if you are driving aggressively, come to a full stop and then launch again, for example if I get off the expressway and come to a stop then move onto the city road, the launch wants to shoot me down the street. but then later in the day, i'm driving normal city streets and a mustang wants to mess with me, the computer will not understand that I want to GO and will give me a poor launch. ( dynamic & comfort settings don't seem to make any difference in either of these examples )

Love my RS5. Only gripe is that the bolster on the driver seat creases easily and the center console is piano black and gets scratched just from being looked at. The stop start is atrocious but I dont use it.

You don’t know audi if u can’t find lane assist button it’s been there in the same spot since the 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 loaded
@SNiiPEDoGG3 жыл бұрын
In order to get lane keep assist to work right you have to put it on weak, early. Audi doesnt make it easy to find the settings to make it work right.

Ya gotta put the traction control in sport or totally off and mash gas and brake and let boost build. You guys did it way too quick and launch control wasn’t activated since you left stability/traction control on

Seat massagers come on the S5 too, at least in prestige trim.

Lol had one too, but didn’t make the connection. 👍 Actually had a 900T SPG. The utility and versatility of that car was insane. Loved it. Size wise this seems more like the 4 door 9000 though.

I had one for 1.5 years, it was a great car. I had the dynamic package with base wheels. Great handling and plenty of punch. Very comfortable ride when in comfort. It was a very quick and entertaining year round/all weather daily driver. Complaints are poor fuel range and fair exhaust sound. The seat massagers are lame, it pumps and deflates different air bladders versus what you get in an A8 or S class.

S5 comes with the massage seats as well😎

The only problem is it doesn’t have a V8 lol

Cheapest car with massagers that I’m aware of is the id4. VW arteon has it too. Next up woukd be the s5 then most cars in the 5 series / e class price range can be optioned with them. Can you tell I really want this in my next car

I own a 2021 Rs5 It's a great all year round, but it not fun to drive, it's quite soulless. It's to underpowered too, should be near the 500bhp, I'm chopping it in for a new M3 x drive!

Absolutely beautiful vehicle. I’m not big on silver wheels, but damn it looks good with that chrome from the side view.

Matt.... my brother bought a Peugeot 3008 a couple years ago when it was out about a year. It's not the range topping GT, and that car has Massaged seats..... a 100k will nearly buy you 4 of those... just saying :D Other than that, great video man ;)

Engine specs sound just like the Macan turbo 2.9 v6.. But yea that’s the problem, no one offers v8’s in the cars we want and that should have them! Gotta pay to play 🥲
