Oh I’m not so sure. She respected the role, but ultimately Thatcher was an individualist and stood her ground. This is the woman who when meeting Gorbachev for the first time opened with “I want to get things straight, I hate communism”. And it was widely understood that she had a turbulent relationship with HRH but that there was ultimately mutual respect on both sides. The Queen has only attended two PM funerals. Winston and Thatcher. I think she basically realised that MT essentially saved Britain whether you agree with her policies or not the fact is they worked.
