Leeman's options have narrowed. Yep. The task at hand is to tell the "Herods" that "you can't have that woman." (proverbially). To tell them that they can't do (fill in the blank) to people. Just like Knox told Catherine (et al). Like Paul told Felix. Like Jonah told the king of Nineveh. The natural question that will inevitably be asked if us is, "Who gives you the authority to say that?" And the plain reply (giving an answer for the hope within) is, "King Jesus." Then, it follows, "Jesus who?" And then we can say, "Let us tell you all about your magnificent and glorious King." The practical application is going to be the same, regardless of eschatology. Whether or not the government repents (like Nineveh) is the Lord's prerogative alone. He will either send the Spirit and there will be repentance, or there will be persecution. Either way, the gospel demands that we tell human government that their job, from on High, is to punish evil and reward good. And, our job is to tell them that they don't get to define good and evil, because that's what the Lord does. To say a human can define good and evil is simply idolatry. And there's a judgement for idolatry. People get "given over" to having wicked desires if they're idolatrous enough. See Romans 1 for that. Christos Kurios.

Where there's smoke , there's fire. Devers troubles me , but I can't quite put my finger on it. However, It's difficult for me to find problems with the 9 marks of a church. Church membership appears to be the weakest link and every Biblical support for appears to be able to be accomplished without "church membership", so their argument is not very persuasive from a Biblical perspective. Membership appears more for the pastor to easily control people with an extra-Biblical covenant then as a Biblical requirement. Calvin used it to control the nonChristians and Moses used it to control non Christians... mainly. My pastor has taken it hook, line and sinker.

I used to attend a 9 Marks adjacent church. They basically copied and pasted 9 Marks views on Baptism and membership. I support the idea of membership but the 9 Marks theology took that Church to some really errant places with how they view non-Baptists.

All the big thinks aside, the US might have been a nice country a little longer if it: - remained run by Christian landowners of the pioneer stock (who - sorry - were white) - hadn't lusted for empire and economic growth at all costs - hadn't permitted creation of a private central bank to take over the financial system, which came to dominate government and and create a media hostile to the peoples' interests - didn't decadently enact universal suffrage A limited suffrage republican system may have been fine if we just hadn't made some critical mistakes. I am unconvinced anyone can craft a new system that negates the list above or avoids new unforseens. Avoid this list of mistakes, and the particulars of your form of government aren't so important. But we are sinful, so every man-made system will always screw it up until we are with Christ.

Believing that nobody has the right to determine what I must or must not put in my body (whether marijuana, grass-fed beef, or a vaccine) is not the same as saying that any of those are good or bad. There is no decision more personal than what I put in my body, not even whom I have sex with, and I don't want the decision made by people who win wars and elections (but I repeat myself). I choose to be faithful to my wife and stay away from pot, and I join communities with the same rules (e.g., my church and Christian healthcare cost-sharing organization). The guy across the street may choose to do the opposite; my job is not to "change his mind" at gunpoint but to minimize the damage he does to others and do my best to win him to Christ.
@austinrothjr Жыл бұрын
Says who?
@henrymw3 Жыл бұрын
@CP-dk8oi "... minimize the damage he does to others ..." is crucial. In a society of voluntary associations (which includes private roads), people would be responsible for *all* the damage they do to their neighbors. We currently subsidize drunk driving by allowing people to get away with paying for less than the total damage they do. You belive that killing someone through intoxicated driving is different from making the same mistake and killing someone, correct? I do too. It is in the best interests of the consortium of private road owners to eliminate the subsidy for drunk driving either by executing the guilty, denying them the right to drive again, enslaving them, or whatever. We have DUI laws today, but drunk drivers still kill people, so the law is not the solution. The choice is between a voluntary society of private property or an extortionate society where there is no privacy.

@@umaikakudo It also comes in with the rich and powerful being able to make the most personal decisions for those who cannot defend themselves. What's your take on the last 39 months of the tax-feeder class running the lives of the defenseless? The issue is how we deal with an imperfect world. Do we sanctify the decrees of the rich and powerful, or do we say that no one is exempt from the commandments against killing innocent people, taking their property, defrauding them, or defaming them? The case laws of Exodus and the rest of the Torah tell us how to deal with violations of those commandments. (And yes, how they are to be interpreted in the Christian era is a matter of debate.) None of them require a tax-funded elite. We are told ad nauseum that in the time of the judges "there was no king in Israel," as if that's a bad thing; yet there were three periods of 40 years when "the land had rest" (presumably from war) and one 80-year period, and that never again happened during the monarchy. First Samuel, after the prologue describing Samuel's birth, begins with the Philistines cleaning Israel's clock, and it ends with Philistia cleaning their clock again: the installation of the monarchy (1 Sam 8-12) did nothing of benefit to Israel. And God never commanded them to install a king anyway; Deut 17 is a concession, as if to say, "If you want a king so you can be like the other nations -- which is a bad thing, but whatever -- this is what you do." The state has been the enemy of the covenant community ever since Pharaoh abducted Sarai in Gen 12, and it will be until the beast is thrown into the lake of fire. One task of the communities that Doug is trying to build -- the Christian nation -- is to get the state out of not only education but all aspects of life.

Doug’s position, in light of the interview with White, essentially boils down to: it’s better to be persecuted in Jesus name than it is to be persecuted because of His name. It’s better to have political power to circumvent the suffering that comes from preaching the Gospel to a darkening world.

What it boils down to is one worldview produces Nero, Robespierre, Stalin, and Mao while the other produces Luther, Calvin, Knox, Cromwell, Scottish Solemn League and Covenant, Westminster Assembly, Separatist Pilgrims, Washington, and Kuyper. Which would you rather your children live in? At the end of the day society and government is not exempt from the 1st commandment and Christians are not exempt from discipling them to obey everything the Lord of all rulers, authorities, and principalities has commanded. How God directs the heart of the king is in his providence but our duties are clear.

You have missed these from Jesus: "“your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven,” "If you love me, you will obey my commandments." “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” What happens when disciples actually start obeying Jesus and bring all areas of life including the government under his authority? Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
