Your video on the pre-rendered backgrounds inspired me to pick up FF9 on PC. Alongside the Moguri Mod, it has been incredible to re-experience! What really highlights the FMVs is the lack of dialog. Technically, PS1 FMVs are what got me into FF and JRPGs. Anyone who was around for the launch of FF7 probably remembers that the (American) TV commercials only showed the FMV sequences. So lets say I had unrealistic expectations what the whole game would look like. But I got the game for Christmas 1997 and enjoyed it all the same, even after the whiplash of seeing what the actual in-game models look like.

They did that entirely on purpose btw.. Theyd also avoid telling people if it was an rpg because they knew action games sold better outside japan. i remember seeing in a magazine at the time the entire FFVI game could fit just in the opening scene of FFVII. this has blown my mind!

My first mind blown moment was train stealing scene in FF8 where there was 3D characters overlayed over FMV and you can actually walk over the train during it

Never stop making videos. This was like an hour long nostalgia bomb. From the bad ass Adult swim like intro and interlude to the great description while talking about the FMV’s I just wanna inject this sh*t strait into my veins. Also if you don’t do a video on the xenogears animations I will feel personally insulted. PS: The Soul Reaver intro is the best PS1 intro of all time in my opinion!

PS1 FMVs remind me of early internet days of FF FMVs supercut over an Offspring song

I’m in my early 20’s and didn’t grow up with any of these games, but I still love the style of these and the PS2/Gamecube/PC era. If you make that anime FMV video, I’d like to suggest the ones for the PS1 version of Linda3, which are VERY bizarre, a weird mix of dark comedy and horror.

That was such a wonderful trip down memory lane. I'll forever be a firm believer that limitation breeds creativity. With the graphics back then FMV's were an amazing tool to deliver a detailed scene filled with emotions and vibe. Creating a dance scene like in FF8 in engine just wouldn't have worked as it does in the FMV. Nowadays the graphics are so modern and "pretty" that most people don't see a reason to use anything else outside of the engine. No beautiful cinematography as we got with FMV's. Thanks for the video!

Haven’t finished the video yet but You better have fighting games in here I remember back in the day that was the only reason to play thru the arcade or story modes just to see those cool ass sweet fmvs from tekken I also remember first time I saw Virtua fighter 3 opening FMV I went home that day and was pumped hyped trying to recreate and describe it to my sis

I would definitely watch a video done on the drawn FMVs, honestly, I haven't really played any games with drawn ones, they were always 3D.

I genuinely think Oddworld Abes Exoddus has the best looking cutscenes of the entire generation. Almost feature film quality. They were very well directed also - which I think helped.

I'll never forget the opening to FF7. I don't know if anything has come as close to blowing my mind going from the SNES to that was actually insane. Opening movie for tales of destiny was another one I watched again and again. And more games needed a item to rewatch cutscenes like Lunar SSSC did. I would have rewatched so many of the final fantasy cutscenes.
@GamingBroductions6 ай бұрын
That was really cool how Lunar gave you the option to go back and watch them again. Later RPGs started doing that more but it was still really rare in the PS1 era
