There really is a lot that, from a logistics standpoint, is just very appealing about the Perun. Keeping probably 90% of the critical parts and accessories compatible with the existing AR aftermarket is genuinely awesome, and it’s a mindset I wish more companies would adopt (instead of everything being proprietary). Honestly, the only part about the rifle I’m not wild on (besides the price) is the need for a permanently modified AR lower. I understand why they did it the way they did (and from a production and design standpoint, it was probably the right decision) but I can’t help but wish there was a way to run it on a standard AR lower.

I really like that the Tinck X-17 gets rid of one of the AR-10 non standardized features with the deletion of the buffer tube tower. A few minutes on my mill and all AR-10 lowers should work?

Well, certain patterns possibly. As far as I recall, the main difference between incompatible AR .308 lowers was the extension tower you’re discarding, but there could be some where the pivot doesn’t match, not sure. (There isn’t a standard.)

@@f308gtb1977 The first time I built an AR-10 was a much steeper learning curve than my first AR-15. I think I found most of the "variables" and I had close to half the parts left over to assemble another one... Printing a lower for the Perun makes a lot of sense. It's what I would do if I lived in a free state. The upper can be shipped to your door, once again, if you live in a free state...

I bought an X-16 in america from AEA Arms last month on the 12th of February. And my FFL only received the upper 4 days ago. No lower no FFL documents I payed 2400 dollars for a complete rifle. I noticed shipping issues from the day they sent me a shipping label on the 26th of February. They sent me a UPS link with a fedex tracking code in an email which doesnt work. And after 5 days of the tracking code saying the item hasn’t moved I sent them an email if there was an issue with my order. To which they replied no everything is fine. Their website says 5-7 business days of shipping. It’s been 10 business days with no lower receiver. And 4 days of complete radio silence with both me and my FFL dealer. They aren’t answering their phone or responding to emails from either of us. I got an automated email from them asking to review their product. So apparently I’m supposed to have the item in hand already. But I do not. Their customer service is not showing me any integrity so far.

AEA Arms is the main reason why we didn't work closely with marketing the X16 despite Tink Arms being a Slovenian company. When they became the US distributor we called them about the possibility of cooperation and their ideas were just so foreign and illogical to us that we backed away. The beauty of X16 system is that you should be able to buy an upper kit without any restricted or serialized parts and then go online and buy your favourite AR barrel, bolt and other functional parts. For the lower you could sacrifice one that you already have or just 3D print it - we tried it and it works perfectly because there are no forces applied to it. But AEA Arms didn't want to sell only uppers or kits because in their words, US has a very strict legal regulations and they could get sued... Also their assembled rifles that they sell look atrocious. I havent shot with these US builds but i have heard that some people had problems with reliability. So i perfectly understand your frustration and i sincerely hope that Tink Arms gets a better US distributor that knows the laws and actually cares about the gun owners

@@PolenarTactical Thanks for the response. I realize that AEA doesn’t represent Tinck arms, and I’m hoping any reliability aspects lie with the lower. Likely I will end up finding a better lower in the future, and finding someone to cut the buffer tower shouldn’t be difficult in my area. Hopefully a new distributer will show up in the future.

Not sure how I feel about my X16 upper. Need to tweek the gas setting superlative gas block has two methods of adjustment restrictive and bypass. Restrictive is dirty, had to make gas adjustments going from 55 grain to 77 grain. Need to play with the bypass setting. Put a BA lower with SOLGW parts kit, SOLGW 50 degree safety, Geissele SSA-E, and BCM grip on it. Pretty heavy set up, but ballances pretty well. Upper was a little over 1700. Got around 2100 in it without an optic. Not worth it IMO unless you are into collecting. Took me 10 months to get the upper that was initally supposed to take 2 months at the longest.

I ordered one of these last October and it was suppose to be delivered at the end of October then the website changed and said "late November" then it changed again and said "end of January 2024" and it still says that. I emailed AEA Arms asking what the hold up was and they said they didn't know why the shipment from Slovenia was taking so long. Then AEA said they got their shipment of Perun uppers but there was an issue with the machining where the stock attaches so they had to send all the uppers back to Slovenia to get worked on. They told me that in December. I'm just curious if that was really the issue or if something's terribly wrong.

I got an update from Tinck: "Hello, cooperation with the distributor in the US is not exactly at an exemplary level. There were no problems with the delivery or quality of goods. If I understand correctly, AEA has problems with lower receivers that are manufactured in the USA." So I think they need a new distributor. AEA has been a headache to deal with. I'll email them again to see how my order is going because it's been a couple months since I last bugged them. I'm not ready to cancel the order because I really want this gun and they might make my head hurt more if I ask for my $2,800 back

Not sure why he was being secretive about US availability, I'm pretty sure shortly after the X-16 was getting imported they said the X-17 would follow. Just hoping this time around the importer comes up with a receiver that can utilize an ambi bolt catch or something, I don't really want to hack up a VERY expensive AR-10 receiver. Edit: actually, I just double checked. AEA, the US importer, does have preorders up for 2400 bucks.

The Jakl is a range toy per se. It's not a serious combat rifle. And it's heavy for what it is. And heats up terribly after a mag and half. The barrel is way to thick for 5.56mm. I could on. No need for a sled for the charging handle. The Jakl should've really looked closely at how IWI did the operating system on the X-95. The X-95 is a proved combat rifle, using a long stroke gas system....and with no sled for charging it. I wish PSA would come out with a Gen2 Jakl and address these issues. As well as, the weight and heating issue. A 5.56mm shouldn't be 9 to 9.5 lbs with a fully loaded mag. A full mag is about 1 lbs.

Where are all you retards getting the Jakl comparison from, that is a long stroke system. The whole point of this thing is that it doesn't have a piston out front to keep it "DI light" and that it vents gases before they reach the action. And it most likely goes through a thorough QC process which I doubt happens to a PSA product.

The issue with the AR10 is one of standardization. Without one universal specification, parts compatibility can't be guaranteed across manufacturers. So a MARS H, SR-25, DD5, etc... can all be fantastic rifles in their own right, but we can't plug and play like we can with the AR15 and the milspec standard.
