I’m a big battle rifle guy because there is no substitute for actual long range power and effectiveness. I’ve got M1 Garand’s, BM-59’s, DSA FN FAL, PTR 91, Ruger SR762, piston gun, I bought a SFAR that I gave it to my brother brand new in the box as a present since he didn’t have a modern AR10 type gun. I’m really looking at getting an IWI Tavor 7 and I would sure appreciate you doing another video on it. Thanks again for another great video. 12/05/2023 update I went to the big gun show in Phoenix and sold off a M1 Garand Tanker and a post WWII M1 Carbine and got just enough to buy the only Flat Dark Earth Tavor 7 at the entire show for $2,051.34 out the door and bought three MagPul 25rd mags separately. What most people don't understand is that a 308 buffer tube isn't wider or thicker( maybe the HK is, I have no experience with HK), ALL MILITARY 308 rifles like Knights, LMT, etc. use a buffer tube that is LONGER. A REAL 308 buffer tube is 7.75" long. A REAL 308 buffer tube uses an H3 buffer and a rifle length buffer spring. The PROBLEM is most COMMERICAL 308 rifles use the shorter AR-15 buffer tube( 7.25"), an ar15 carbine spring, and a special "308" buffer. This is where most manufactures are cutting cost so they can use parts from an AR15. Make sure to use a real 308 BUFFER TUBE.

I think for a "working man's battle rifle," we have to mention the Aero Precision M5E1. I have a couple of them and they have been outstanding, especially for the cost. They run around $1200, depending on the options, which are extensive. Aero has good customer service, and the M5 is about as standardized as AR-10s get. My first M5 was a 16 inch mid-length that has went through several thousand rounds without a single hiccup. She mostly eats M80 ball and will do 2 to 3 MOA with just a 3.5x Trijicon TA11J on top. When the 2019 ammo crunch hit, I put a case of steel cased Wolf through it, and she gobbled it up. I run her hot, put her away dirty. Wipe down the BCG every 500 rounds or so and she chugs away without missing a beat. I run around on mountains with her and she has taken a pile of game. I couldn't ask for much more from her. If you need a functional large pattern AR and don't have DD money, I highly recommend the Aero Precision M5E1.

I just recently started making a shift to 308 in my defensive rifle setup, I went all in with the PSA Sabre line and I love it. I am still keeping my AR15 setup which except for the lack of full auto is put together exactly the way I carried on deployments, going with something familiar and proven in my own hands is better than a swing and a miss with a setup that I haven’t had any real world experience with plus there is some nostalgia looking in the corner and seeing a Colt M4A1 fully kitted out the way I like it. For the most bang for your buck, any DPMS pattern AR-10 is the way to go. It's the unofficial standard for parts commonality. I saw an Anderson 16 inch rifle for $750 just yesterday. PSA and Aero Precision make rifles that you can buy parts for right off the shelf at your local gun store. Granted you may not get all the bells and whistles but you can upgrade easily like an AR-15, no proprietary parts.

The drop points in the Strike Eagle give me repeatable torso hits on "E" silhouettes out to 600 M, and if the optic goes TU the "polymers" are kept zeroed and also work out to 600. From my competitor days, I have a cache of M118, M118LR, M852 and some ball, AP and tracer. I load clones of the match ammo with MatchKings and GameKings. I make it a point to drill in all phases of ambi use. This carbine has become my "everything" rifle. I no longer compete, but it takes care of home defense, feral critter/varmint control, and deer/hog hunting chores.

I have both a Springfield M1A Loaded, black synthetic stock, match trigger, match sights, semi heavy barrel. It's good but it's an M1 Garand 2.0. I also acquired an FN SCAR 17. Shorter, folding stock, much better ergonomics, easier to field strip and clean, easier to shoot with much reduced recoil. That's my SHTF rifle and my Bigfoot hunting rifle. My FN FNX .45 is my companion sidearm to the SCAR 17.

Got a 'lightweight' 308 FN FAL mid 90s when they were relatively inexpensive, certainly much less than an AR at the time, when I separated from the Army. Great truck and overall great rifle but eventually moved to the AR 15 due to weight and size. Recently built a DPMS pattern AR10 mainly to see if I could run one competitively. Weight, part compatibility, reliability and cost are considerations when you jump from an AR 15 to a 308 AR style rifle.

16:45 - The BM 450 bolt has, of course, a .308 size face. The concern of using such a large diameter bolt head and locking lug circle prompted them to build the bolt and barrel extension out of a special steel with a higher tensile strength than standard AR15 bolts. Presumably, the Ruger folks were smart enough to do likewise.

I have a suppressor on my Tavor 7. I am convinced that the 7 was designed to run suppressed. I haven't noticed any gas in my face and it runs like a dream. In fact, my accuracy has dramatically increased while firing it suppressed. It is to the point where I am landing old (manufactured in West Germany) M80 ball ammo on top of each other at 200 yards pretty regularly. The suppressor on my 7 is a Banish 30 - which is NOT a flow through suppressor and have never had any kind of problem. I intended to swap the suppressor between the 7 and the SAR, but love it on the 7 so much that I haven't switched it. The 7 has an adjustable gas block and I just set it to the suppressed setting and it worked great immediately. I have noticed that if I set it to "off" I do get gas in my face with the suppressor - but, I can't help but think that the only reason to do that would be if you were firing subsonic rounds which wouldn't have nearly as much gas. Suffice to say, I LOVE it and think everyone should suppress the Tavor 7.

Carbine buffer and rifle length gas piston was odd but did shorten the LOP. All the early 308s were overgassed, and this one was pushing brass out to 1-2 o'clock. Frank offered to make it right but I declined and tuned it with a custom heavy buffer and some piston key work. It runs great.

Waiting to see how well the SFAR holds up. The thinner bolt is my main concern, and if those prove themselves over time I'm in. Secondary concern is the adjustable gas blick. For some they work well, but for others the positions are either under or over gassed. I'd likely replace with a Riflespeed for more granularity and easier indexing. I want the SFAR to be a success. In the mean time I'm sticking with my Adams that has the older style adjustable block that requires a Samson rail. It can be accessed, adjusted and cleaned without any tools. The newer low profile gas piston block does allow for a nicer hand guard, but it only saves about 2 oz of weight. Not worth the loss of easy maintenance of the older style. The rifle eats everything I've run through it, standard or suppressed. The piston set up also makes suppressed shooting a lot nicer than DI AR10's.

The 308 round is very finaky and some 308 rifles only like certain brands, part of that seems to be that the semi ar10 seems to be the red headed step child of the semi auto world and not as much developmen has been put in as an ar15. I have a UICW with the 8.5 barrel and it will launch 90 grain bullets at 2500 fps. The only downside is that you don’t get nearly the full potential unless you hand load. Thanks MAC for pushing off the fence. I decided to get up and get me a .308 after hearing you've migrated back to it. Confirmed my decision to put my trust in the cartridge over everything else that seems to come and go. The BCA BC-10 22" SS light barrel with straight fluting. I got a deal at just $526 shipped to FFL. No mag. It's my Birthday present to myself. Thank you for the channel and wisdom you provide.

The less substantial bolt and the single gas key bolt are my only two concerns with the Ruger. But if it holds up that thing is magic.

@@brennelement6451 When LMT start selling the 16'' piston barrel. That would be a close option for both price and performance. Or LMT 308 DI is GTG if you go Huxwrx. But until then, KAC is too expensive, HK civ version is not good for the price, LMT DI 308 is overgased and no adjustment. So SCAR17/20 is the best option besides that silly warranty clause.

My favorite .308 has become my Springfield Armory Saint Victor. I have it topped off with a Primary Arms ACSS-HUD-DMR optic with 4 - 14 in OPMOD Limited Edition. I also run a Holosun HS507C on the Swampfox mount in the 45 deg position just in case "something" were to get too close. I know this seems to be a rifle that often gets overlooked, but she's got an awesome trigger, the build quality is fantastic, and she delivers downrange consistently. I feel like my Victor is priced outstandingly for the weapon that Springfield Armory is producing. Give it a whirl sometime and perhaps you'll have a new favorite in your collection.

POF Revolution PD .308. Buy once, cry once, and done. I didn't pick it as a battle rifle, but it surely could be used for any purpose. It's sub MOA, reliable, and doesn't put the gas in my face. The brake is loud, but accurate follow-up shots are a breeze.

@JADC1111 Mine is sub MOA with several Ammo types. I've seen the reviews, some by those with an agenda to sell other products... I own and shoot one. My experience is contrary, and first hand, not the hearsay of an internet hack. POF has sub MOA guarantee... Next.

@@clutchcargo1239 Good friend and quality shooter spent a couple hundred dollars trying to find sub moa. He called POF and asked what they use for testing. He bought it and still about 1.5 MOA. Sent it back and they had to refit a new barrel. Not a hack. Spent $250 in total trying to find one that was MOA and turns out it was a QC issue

@JADC1111 That isn't good, sorry to hear that. I imagine, like most products, sometimes defects can slip through. As long as POF corrects the problem as promised, I can't fault them for that. My gun likes some 150, 168, 175, and some 180gr ammo. I got 1moa @ 100yds with Tulammo steel cased 150gr! In contrast, Ammo Inc 150 was the worst ammo I had. Power levels were all over the place, and it produced 4moa. At least it was cheap, and the brass is reusable. Remington, S&B, Hornady, Winchester... Basically, any hunting load grouped good. The only thing I noted was that the hotter loads required I turn the gas down a notch. POF states a 500 round break in... That's expensive too, but if you can afford to buy one of b their guns, I guess they figure you can afford to shoot it. I hope your friend worked it out with POF and the gun works well for him. I guess all guns are like individuals and aren't perfect. As long as the company producing them stands behind it, that's an acceptable inconvenience to me, even though I wouldn't like a bad experience either.

9:28 that's not because it's a short stroke piston.... It's because the adams arms bolts have a spring that pushes the bolt forward and pushing the carrier back. I have short stroke guns without this, and i believe I've removed that spring on an AA gun

Hey gang! A few years ago I fell for James Yeager's hype of the DPMS G2 platform. Well, that platform has reached a dead end and I'm one breakage away from throwing almost 2k down the drain. My advice is to stay with tried and true 308 semiautomatic platforms like the FAL, Cetme, and SCAR. If you must go the AR308/AR10 route, then get the original DPMS pattern. Stay away from the AR10/AR15 hybrids. It's not worth the risk of making a bad long-term investment.
