4:10. Ricky's guitar playing right here is superb. He would take strings off his guitar and use weird, oddball tunings to get just the sound he wanted. Genius.

I've always told people he is a very underrated guitarist, R.I.P Ricky Wilson 😎👌👍

personally, I think a musician who wants to create something full of life and energy can find no finer influence than this era of post-punk/new-wave from the 70s and 80s. I grew up on on 80s/90s/00s 'punk rock' etc etc and it wasn't until post-punk that my own playing had any expression. While the vast majority of a lot of this earlier stuff lacks the tempo of the stuff that used to get me going, it more than makes up for that with feeling and uninhibited artistic, emotional and political expression.

Sound doesn’t rely on oddball tuning “, Ricky’s tuning was proper, he used a Fender Telecaster which made a little more different tone than other guitars, plus he used exact Oldschool 70’s guitar pedals which made a big difference than current distortion or buzz or any other Current rock guitar pedal. All those bands in late 70s, used old machinery as for Amplifiers or pedals from 60s/70s, which produced a sound that cannot be found today. In addition, the record productions those days were pretty good. Apart from that, B 52s teached post punk and indie rock in 1978-1980

It only took 24-30 years after he died before I started seeing people talk about his playing (however, I wasn't born for nearly 6 years after his death.) Check out some of the guitar tabs on Ultimate Guitar, they're not all accurate but I have one of Private Idaho on there that I updated. There's more going on in it than you can hear on the first (or even first couple dozen) listens if you don't know they're in there or aren't looking, it gives me inspiration.

The line is "Everybody's rockin'. Everybody's fruggin'" but Fred pronounces it "froog" instead of the way most people pronounced it, "frug" (rhymes with shrug). The other reference to a 60s dance in "Rock Lobster" is "Twistin' round the fire." People have forgotten this now, or aren't aware of it, but in the late 70s the B52s and several other bands were considered to be reviving sounds and styles of the early to mid-60s, a trend at the time. "Rock Lobster" mocks early 60s beach movies.
