One of the best things The B-52s ever recorded. Whenever I hear it, it sounds like a Top 10 hit Billboard radio single from the mid-80s that got released in an alternate universe, yet, We still could hear its power in Our world. Truly, ain't it a shame...

One of the roughest and most difficult song for me to get through ~ it always leaves me with a broken heart. Even if the first line is, “Flying saucers could land and wouldn’t make much difference to my man.” Put in context of the time, Ricky died right before its release, ugh! So horribly painful. Not many bands truly have their own genre, B~52,s do.
@ethanbush29162 жыл бұрын
This album is so important; what underrated song!. You can hear the grief, emotion, and pain in Cindy’s voice. Her brother Ricky had just died of AIDS in 85’ during this albums inception and its release in 86’. A lot of emotion here and one that makes me cry, every time I listen to it. Hands down one of my top 3 favorite bands.

Always loved this one. This song is amazing at conjuring up atmosphere. Details give the impression of a struggling couple living in a distant trailer park out in the middle of the open somewhere... I love that open line about boarding a flying saucer... my second fave part is her wistfully singing, "...I like your brand new trailer... I like your color TV... but u look at that color TV more than me... more than me..." & then u just hear that sad sound of a TV droning on in the background...

The song is called 'Ain't it a Shame', yet Cindy sings 'Ain't I ashamed'. This puzzled me for a long while. I get it now! Its deep irony. She says: 'Oh, I've been unkind (not like you). Thank you for sharing one of the best B-52's songs that highlights the talent of Cindy Wilson as a soloist. Having the most emotionally expressive voice of the B-52's, this song perhaps features her the very best. Along with this great song, you've added in photos of the band that are hardly ever seen, if ever. In fitting tribute to the time period this song was recorded, the photos of Cindy and Ricky Wilson are particularly poignant. Quite understandably, "Bouncing Off the Satellites" was an album that was never properly promoted following Ricky's death. Thankfully, the band have begun singing more songs from it on their recent tours, giving it the airtime it deserves.
