Thanks for the mention Jack. That air cap should have worked so obviously the amp has a failure to communicate Jack. I am guessing something else is actually wrong and its not the tuning cap I am sure.

Strange indeed, Jack. I never had to replace a tuning condenser with a different type, so I can't really tell what's wrong here. But maybe, something else in the circuit is out of whack? Which causes it not to work with any tuning condenser, but only with the standard cap which has different parameters other than capacitance of course (ESR/ESL, and stray fields). You know as they say, _everything_ is a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor at the same time, and at the latter two are especially true for high frequency circuits. Could be total nonsense though - who knows!

Howdy WA! I don't have real experience with them other knowing they exist in radios and alike....allot of what I do is first time experience so I have no cause and effect built up in my database brain! I bet you could even say a good taco and or pizza is a resistor....I know it would be hard for me to resist them! :) ~Jack, VEG
