I remember years ago my granny had chickens one was out every day. Finally she got tired of chasing it down daily so she cut the ends of its wing feathers off on 1 side which made the bird lopsided and unable to fly out. Takes like 5 seconds per bird, once you catch it ,that sometimes takes a bit lol

Old Electrician with a hint on bending conduit of any kind. The NEC or the National Electric Code requires no more than 360 degrees of bends in any electrical pipe before you must place a box. I noticed you had 5 90's in one run and had trouble pulling wire into that run. You must count all bends including all off-sets and other bends. I hope this helps when you run conduit in the future. Another hint with PVC conduit is have a cup of water to cool your bends quickly once you have them the shape you want them. Pouring water on the bend will set it in place almost instantly. I am a long time viewer of your channel and try to watch every episode. Best of luck in your Journey.

Just a tip when pulling wire. If you stagger the ends of the wires ie. black then a few inches down the white and then few more inches down the green then wrap with tape. When you attach it to the rope it will go thru bends and turns easier as it will not have such a blunt end, it will be more tapered or pointed.

Ground is usually on the bottom in residential. The outlet should be oriented with the ground pin down because a person grabbing the outlet will have their index finger at the bottom side of the plug and the index finger sticks out further than the thumb. Having the ground down will keep a person's index finger from touching the live pins.

Got a couple conduit tips for ya. Those junction boxes are also called pull boxes. If you go over 360° worth of bends (4x90°) throw in a pull box. Pull from pull box to pull box and leap frog your way down the run. Makes life a lot easier and you're less likely to damage the wires. Wire lube helps a lot. Also when you run your conduit think about the direction you're going to be pulling. You want the wire traveling such that it's coming out of the male end into the female. Other way round and you're dragging your wires into the hard edge of the male end and it'll grab your bundle and stop it dead. Or cut into your insulation. As always thanks for the great videos. You all are doing great. All the best.

A dowel rod to wrap the string around when you are pulling lets you put the force on the rod and not the hand. When you cut a length of wires and plan to use the same color wires in the same box use some electrical tape to mark the wire bundles to not have a question when you come back to it later. A pack of multi color electrical tape is very handy to own so you can mark individual bundles or if you are switching a wire color in a box to wrap all of that wire in the box like is needed for a 3 way switch. A hook in the side of the laying box would let you hang the egg basket to not risk dropping it when you go to close the door.

Chuck the dowel rod in a drill. When you pull the trigger, it wraps the string around the rod. It often makes wire pulling faster.

Two suggestions from a OLD pro. Stager the insulated ends of your conductors when you tie them onto the string for pulling to avoid that blunt leading end. Skin your wires a bit longer so you can stagger the insulations and make more of a "taper" on the pulling end. Also, you can peel at least half of the strands and cut them off so that end you bend over in the string eye is less thick. Four or five strands is more than enough and the skinnier the end the better. Some "pulling compound" might be a good investment also. BTW, if the "hot" wire and the "switch leg" are both on the same circuit, you can use the same neutral (one instead of two) and save a wire on your pull.

If part of the sap freezes, I would think you could fish that out and throw the ice block away. The sugar should freeze out of it like salt does, and they unfrozen sap would be higher concentration of sugars (and hence lower freezing point). I could be wrong, but would be interesting to try boiling the ice part separately and see if there is no sugar in it.

Hi Lumnah Acres, I was wondering about the ducks, do they not miss not having a pond to swim in. I have heard in other homesteading steader's, that even having a little kids pool is not deep enough for ducks as they can not dive and they need a deep pond to swim as they like to duck under and helps clean themselves, is this true? how are your ducks coping?, to me they look ok. I am sure the goats will be happy to have lights. Not long till the little goats will arrive. Have a great day.

I know what you mean. I keep up on the dishes and laundry, but I rarely clean the floors, walls, and ceilings. My arms are pitifully weak from my breast reduction a couple of years ago and even before then I had a hard time maneuvering the vacuum and carpet cleaner and my arms get strained when I have them above my head for extended periods of time. Lee will usually do the floor cleaning. I will clean the ceiling fan once or twice a year. I pretty much leave the cobwebs up since I don't mind the common house spider that keeps down the flying population and doesn't harm people.

Different countries, different customs, different traditions and also different laws! With that disclaimer out of the way, I am used to wiring 230 Volts in a 3-phase grid. In this case "domestic" wiring is done with a common Neutral and a common Ground for all circuits. So in that first long pull around 7:00 I would only pull four wires, since both the ground and the neutral can be used by both circuits. We also use different colors to identify the phase-wires of the different circuits in the same conduit.

If you bend the tips of your wires about a half inch, it's easier to pull, no hang ups. Learned it from an electrician on "Wild Wonderful Off Grid" today when he built a brand new panel because of dangerous panel that was there.
