@westoftherockies Жыл бұрын
right but michael corby is also what made them special, he was the creative force for most of the songs, john waite was a great singer and it was a combination but john waite on his own never had much of a career, one hit song "missing you"...thats it.p.that baby's went downhill after kicking out corby, even john wait on his own with his great voice didn't have the creative genius corby had, the baby's was the concept of corby.

I've read many of the comments and although I wasn't a die hard fan of The Babys, I definitely liked their sound back in the late '70s and early '80s. Strength of the band certainly lay in their vocalist who obviously not only wore his heart on his sleeve when performing, probably lived his life the same way. And many similar British acts of the same era had similar front men and played similar songs. I have always preferred British rock bands/music however that certainly doesn't mean bands from America couldn't foot it with them. On the contrary in some instances. Wrapping up my comment, could listeners/comments please remember that obviously what is going on here in this vid isn't a revival of some sorts, rather guys just havin' a great time together. Please don't judge them on the original Babys as that's just not their agenda I believe. Simply relax and enjoy this for what it is.

Ha, I immediately recognized their new 2nd guitarist, Joey Sykes. He was a staple on the Long Island/tri-state area cover band scene back in the 80's. He is quite a singer himself, but good to see him doing this.

This butcher used an axe? The second verse of "Isn't It Time" has always had the lyrics "I've seen visions of someone like you in my life, a love that's strong holding me through the darkest night....at 19:54 John Bisaha somehow massacres them by mumbling part of the third verse and trying to recover mid-stream with "I feel warm in my soul that I thought I could never knew, this love affair gives me strength that I need just to get me through." He does get the third verse right at 20:54 with "I feel a warmth in my heart and my soul that I never knew, this love affair gives me strength that I need just to get me through." To be fair, when he introduces the song, he says, "This one you might recognize" - OR NOT! Maybe a teleprompter would help until you learn the lyrics. To be completely honest, he hits a note to close out the lyrics at 22:36 that proves he's got some vocal chops. Listen to John Waite's latest live performances of the same song and it is apparent that thirty years has a serious impact on the vocal chords. I'd rate them a better than average cover band.

Sorry y'all for replying to my own post,. but I gotta wax pompous. These guys were at the cusp, the end of the era of rock. 1979-1982 or so was a unique era. Rock, I'm so sorry to say, had exhausted itself as the driving force of pop music. That drove rock music to its highest highs. The Babys were exemplary in the advancement of rock, though they were not enough to stop the rising tide of synthesizer-driven pop pap, which in the end defeated rock. LONG LIVE ROCK!!!

There’s gotta be a guy out there on the planet somewhere that can sing like John. Journey in Queensryche replaced their lead singers with guys that synonym exactly like Steve Perry and Jeff Tate. Foreigner did the same thing when they hired Kelly Hanson. It can be done.
@levite9787 жыл бұрын
Musically they are dead on. Obviously with the original Drummer and Lead Guitar that helps, and they sound great. But the new cast does an excellent job. As far as the vocals go - he will never fill the shoes of John Waite, but he gets five stars out of five stars. He knows the words and his vocals are close enough. It is like trying to replace Steve Perry of Journey, you can't, but his replacement does an excellent job. If I had a choice of seeing them with new vocals or not seeing at all, rather be able to see them play these great songs. I also would like to see some new material, to satisfy the "what if" syndrome. Great show!!
