Great to watch you @ Dolly Sods. Was wonderful to see the fun you had! Its my fave hike from when i was young. I grew up in WV and it was such a great place to learn. I'm in MA now and I do think about returning to hike eventually. Silly fact I remember from grade school WV history...Dolly Sods is the only space in the USA that has plants found in the Arctic Tundra.

Great video thanks. Weird that the cnoc broke I’ve been using mine for about a year on a lot of trips and it’s been rock solid. It did taste like rubber from the get go though so his may not be degrading it maybe just the way they are. I got rid of the taste by filling it up with lemon juice and baking soda then I put it in the freezer for a couple of days. It’s tasted fine ever since

I'm very similar to him. I swing by the local backpacking consignment shop whenever I'm by it and pick up things that I need to round out my gear. I have gathered a bunch of nice things, but I don't backpack as much as I would like.

Nice! We were crossing reds creek when it was raging and a rattler was on one of the rocks in the river. buddy almost stepped to it. We had to backtrack and go right in the middle waist high. Definitely crazy shit

Allow me to make you feel MUCH better about you "huge mistakes"...at the begining of the month I was at 12000 ft in the sierra. I have severe adhd and take meds. Which weren't available so I was forced (again) to take meds that might work a little. They didn't. I was off trail stopped for lunch after a steep climb, put my pack down and walked about 50 ft away while I caught my breath and get a better view of where I was. That was the last I saw any of my gear. I searched all day and the next. Slept in the dirt in running shorts and sun hoodie for two nights. Didn't eat for 4. Slept was the wrong word at 12000 ft on Nov 10th...I violently shivered, followed by endless hiccups then vomiting...all from the shiver it was so violent. So I layed and prayed for the stars to move _ because of where I was I didn't see sun until way after noon. 18 hrs x 2 shivering, not eating, and climbing that mountain over and over. My kit was perfect. 20lbs for 5 days...perfect. took 13 years. I just got back from the SAR a day before the snow started dumping. Figured I could use a drone to find it then climb. No luck. Roads closed for the season. SNOW WAS DUMPING A DAY LATER. 3000.00 at least in that pack along with my passport, wallet, cash...thats a bad trip. I worked my way back to break into the ranger station, turned out he was there but out looking for me. The only hiker to pass saved my ass like a champion. The love from strangers was just about worth it. I hope it was covered and frozen before a bear or marmot got to it. No person will go where I was so we'll see what June brings. I've been depressed since...and now I'm a tarp packer.

Ps. Get that emergency device OFF your pack! There's a hundred ways to get separated from it. It's now in a fanny pack that I don't take off to poop. Fire starter lighter space blanket and ELP. My brothers father in law up in the north woods would say he wouldn't swing his leg over the 4 wheeler to take a piss without knowing he had his butt bag. Highly recommend. It never ever needs to be in or on your pack. Pocket, necklace, whatever. I would not have survived a 3rd night. So lucky
