The moment Left and Right game was mentioned I thought he had a chance at getting out by playing it inside of the Backroads. Because when you choose to stop playing Left and Right game you're either returned to the place you came from (which would suck in this case) or it's just hardcoded to return you to reality in which case it's a win. Or maybe the scapes of Left and Right are not quite as bad as Backroads. Of course Backroads may not even have enough turns to play it, or you just can't do it from Backroads at all as a rule.

Since seen several people mention that this comment is being shown to people trying to avoid looking at comments adding this. SPOILER. Man sells his soul and doesn't even watch for the wording, ends up bringing his family to the maintenance tunnels instead of himself out. That's my take of the ending, makes sense with the repeated statements of being lucky to be alone and from the demons perspective more souls to be taken in the long run.

I'm thinking something similar, now he and his family are stuck in limbo, and the only way out will be the original way. Go back to the backroads with your family, and escape through level 3. I'm glad this story didn't end after the first part, I'm craving more stories like this after listening to the Left Right game

I absolutely loved this story when I first heard it a few weeks ago. I played it for my gf in the car a couple days ago and, of course, she loved it too. what's funny is we actually had a conversation after listening about how so much is left unsaid and unknown about the Backroads and I'm sure all would agree that with the so many grape vines and the perfection of the narration to this particular story, it'll be more anticipated than a pay per view event

yeah the stories need to be longer since it feels like so much info is dropped on you, and by the time you process it the story abruptly ends. Edit: like that quitter cleaner who’s hinted at but is never brought up again, and the encounter with the demon lasting like 30 seconds. (im assuming the writers saving this for part 3?)

I finally started this epic series this week. I recognized Vidith immediately! He is a great and underrated narrator. I love your choices of guest narrators! I love this concept it holds up the same tension as the backrooms but it's insulting and difficult to say it's the same . Due to the backrooms wiki version or Kane pixels (it's very easy to compare anything with levels to the wiki since there are hundreds of official/non official yet fan accepted level ) .cleverly keeping us immeresed by keeping it in a single not - so - hollow nor stupid perspective . Really inspiring me truly 10/10 will listen again .

@@sombernights Yeah, I can see that comparing the silent hill protagonist (the way he acts with character) + the grim overcast of the kinda liminal ( as in you can tell what it's trying to be but somethings off ) feeling the environment hammers in on. The monsters that are almost and were humans to better parts of the series ( mainly the cult in silent hill being my main connection). Also I might add the mental apsect of truly being unaware who to trust who you can trust but know that they can't be hospitable /substaniable forever and who is 10 seconds away from stepping out of the car and trot into the woods for an eternity. of eating flesh ( or being sacrificed as said in the fine print ) .

Yet another goated story, I've been listening to the dark somnium for around 3 years now and have only found 1 or 2 stories I didnt enjoy. Even if he just reads said stories he actually adds human emotion and tension to his voice while reading making the whole experience more immersive. I'm very picky about voices aswell so im glad he has a very clear voice thats great for reading stories. Keep up the good work man.

I like how they took the concept of the Backrooms and expanded it to the Backroads, and even gave a explanation for why. It seems very American to me, if it was a European character it would probably be a endless train or subway system. Also the having to always be on the move and unable to rely on anyone brought back the concept of The Long Walk novel by Stephen King (writing under the Bachman pseudonym). If you’re not familiar it’s about a alternate history America that’s a police state, and the national sport is taking 100 young men and having them march nonstop down a highway on the Eastern seaboard. If you’re not fast enough or you stop too much, well you get removed from the game. It doesn’t stop until it’s one man left, but he can request a prize to satisfy his hearts desire.
