This sounds like a DOOM plot. In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of Hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bite of his sword named him... the Doom Slayer.

"Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back" that's an old saying, but one that rather fits this story. A good story, very frightening and creepy, filled with vivid---if grotesque---imagery. And what I found the best thing about it was how thought provoking it was. Consider the questions it raises. For one, what makes you think the Devil---assuming that is the "Master" spoken of in the story--- would want to destroy humanity? Basically speaking, the Devil's duel with God deals with him winning the souls of humans to the side of evil. The Devil cannot claim any soul that has not, of its own free will, dammed itself. And with all humans dead, there would be no more souls to be had. No more souls to be corrupted. No more chances for the Devil to win the duel. And if you consider mythology, after the "ends of the world" the Devil is locked forever in Hell, never to be free again. So why would the Devil want that? If anything, he would want humanity to multiply, spread and keep going for the next million years. Next question: if the Devil directly attacked humanity------directly, without using humans to do it-----what makes you think God would not strike back? He would have to, because humanity would stand no chance at all against a true fallen angel. Sure, don't expect god to help you against your human enemy, but against, literally the Devil? I kind of think he would move on that one. Either way, the Devil would have nothing to gain. And why would the Devil bother to warn a small handful of people of this potential future? What would he gain, except the pain of a few people, which seems hardly worth the effort, since he could get the same thing with a lot less effort. But if half the legends are true, the Devil is the master of lies, of deception, of cunning. He twists the truth to serve his purpose. there is no destiny except for what humanity chooses for itself. Suppose the Devil foresees the possibility of total human destruction-----and wants to prevent it? So he warns individual humans, here and there. Yes, he takes pleasure in their terror, and does it in a way that will make sure they never forget. But he is not boasting of his victory---he is warning humanity to take more care of its doings. And let's them spread the word. Forewarned is forearmed. Despite our devastating wars, etc. humanity has held off conflagrations (like biological warfare, nuclear warfare) by knowing what it would do and what the cost, to everyone, would be. (just look at the impact that the movie "The Day After" had on generations of people.) Every person that the narrator spoke to, every person who reads his posts, regardless of if they believed him or not, has heard the story, and will remember it. Talk about it. Maybe some other person exposed to this Museum will write a book that becomes a best seller, or make a movie that is a blockbuster, and again spreads the story. Yes, humanity does need to be ready to fight the devil, but not the genuine supernatural Devil. The devil in the evil that humans can do to each other. And that we can defend ourselves from. That, we can defeat. So in the end, was the Devil gloating, or warning humanity that it needs to take better care of itself, to make sure there is a future? A good question, but only the Devil knows. Terrific story, beautifully read, I highly recommend it!

The DEVIL i.e. LUCIFER was and always has been on the side of humans. Has and always wants humanity to become the best it can be, and has taken steps to ensure such an outcome, but you know the age old thing - humans are fu-king morons. Lucifer was a fallen angel as he wanted, and still does want, humans to be free, to have true free will, to decide for themselves, not to submit to an authoritarian ''god'' that robs you of free will, then punishes you for doing what he made you do. This is why he was able to take a third of the angels with him. The bible version of ''Oh he wanted to rule and be king, and convinced a third of the angels to fall with him'' is complete BS, for starters if that was true, how could he make the other angels leave ''heaven'' and live in hell to serve him instead of god. That claim, is just complete horse shit. Lucifer wanted humanity to be free, to learn, to grow and to develop on their own with out interreference. But you know, religion gets in the way of that plan big time. Now you see why Lucifer, hates religions, not because of any god BS - because it robs people of the very free will he fought so badly for you all to have. Also, remember that the story of Lucifer is much much much older than the bible, the being referred to as Lucifer, has had many many names through out history - but the actions have always been the same - to push humanity along to grow, learn and become the best they could ever be. I have said it for many years - LUCIFER was never the bad guy - god is the bad guy(although, the being referred to yahweh i.e. god - IS DEAD, the battle in which a third of the angels joined Lucifer - GOD WAS KILLED - another huge mistake made by religions - yahweh and Lucifer are the same SPECIES), Lucifer is the saviour of all humanity - and for his actions, humans have demonised him, yet he still fights to free you all. And then the next thing - is to remove all BS of super natural crap - and accept these beings are biological entities NOT super natural deities.

This story actually reminded me of a novel I read in the 80’s similar to this accept the attack on earth came from humans from a parallel universe, who had the ability to jump dimensions and roam the multiverse, they even told the inhabitants of the earth the reason they were taking over the planet, was because of all the dimensions in the multiverse, our earth was the most primitive, they believed humanity overall through out the multiverse had reached the highest echelons of creation until they ran into our earth and was thoroughly disgusted at our lack of progress, they said the most primitive earth they came across before us was 5000 yrs ahead technologically, but still hadn’t mastered travel through the multiverse. Long story short, they unleashed horrors and monstrosities onto the earth from other universes, many from dimensions we could call hell. These things turned earth into a gory blood bath, destroying the armies of all nations in a matter of days. A lot of it too bloody and violent to mention here. I’ve been searching for the name of this book for decades, it was a damn good read. Atleast In the end, what was left of the resistance, managed to get into the stronghold of the invaders and sabotage the machine they used to jump universes. I was a great book I remember being glued to it for hours.

Gotta tell you, i listened this while having a high fever from covid that wouldnt let me sleep so safe to say ive never been so scared about a story my whole life😂 im 30 so that should say something. Somnium you never stop amazing me how good your narrating is🙏🏼!

I would love for you to narrate some of my favorite books. I get so pulled in to your stories, its hard to even listen at work. I get distracted and zone out to your stories. The audio books i listen to doesn't come close to what you do. The sound effects, the voice actors, the music. Perfection!

"A huge demon, easily 50 to 60 feet tall..." "...pulling a weapon from its sheathe... the length of two men." compared to the demon, if you consider the average man is, like, 5'8'' that would be a kitchen knife, lol. great production value on the narration, as expected.

Well you have to remember what the weapons are being used to hunt. You're not normally using a tank to hunt squirrels.

As I've said before (I think lmao), the stories you choose more often than not are wack and fucked up enough to send shivers down my spine and give me goosebumps. Like the suicide of a psychiatrist for example, my lady listened to it and tried describing it to me and I was spooked. Again great taste👌

I noticed with these stories as I listen, whether im driving, or I'm at work, or even when I'm eating a sandwich, I can feel my mind and attention being absorbed in a way that a generic story simply cannot compare. These are very well done, somnium.

Hello Dark Somnium. Been a subscriber of your channel now for 2-3 or more years now . While I don’t make comments for your channel that often , I truly believe that this one definitely one. I am reminded of an old adage “ fate of earth shall not be destroyed by man but in will die in a blaze of glory” . I’m not even sure if I got any of that right but for some reason I always seem to related adage “ March that comes in like a lamb will go out like a lion “ Fantastic story and great narration .
