Dreamworks certainly showed they’re still relevant with this film. What did you think of the Bad Guys?
@jeremythomaswebb14859 ай бұрын
One of my favourite Dreamworks Movies or all time!! Love it! And I just recently found out that the Author who wrote the books this Movie is based on is Australian like Me! 😁It's just a fun romp! The animation art style is so appealing, I bought the Art of the Bad Guys book the day after I watched the movie. Hope there's a sequel in the near future.

Bad Guys was really good especially the animation when it comes to the fighting and running. I would be very surprised if we don't get either a sequel or an animated series.

I always thought Marmalade was supposed to be a parody of a twist villain. Before he’s revealed, everyone is constantly talking about how nice he is. Like, way more than it would be normally. That, and they also reveal the villain halfway through the movie, which allows more time of him being evil lol.

Never thought of it in that respect. Makes sense honestly.

The only thing I didn't like was Piranha's fart habit. That felt like someone was like "This movie's too good, how are we gonna appeal to kids?"

@@scr0ngle108 The best adaptations don't try to slavishly copy the source material, they involve judgement calls to make cuts and alterations and I would agree that the farts just make it a worse movie.

I personally enjoyed the film. The only thing I had an issue with was some of it's predictability but that didn't stop it from being a fun film. Loved the characters, their dynamics, and the animation.
@e-122psi3 Жыл бұрын
I feel like predictability depends on how well a work injects its own personality to the old cliches, there's plenty works I think come off as dreary and soulless because I can predict every last piece of dialogue the characters will make, but the Bad Guys is more character driven and still has its own take on everything.
@jazzy4830 Жыл бұрын
I think certainly the two key issues of the film are plot (not the writing in-scene, dialogue etc.) and the marketing. It wasn't pushed enough and the marketing you did see gave away the plot of the film without making it look special. I never saw it in cinemas for this reason, but I regret that now having seen the incredible work done with the visuals.
@jeremythomaswebb14859 ай бұрын
@@jazzy4830 Yeah same thing happened to me, I didn't get to see it in Cinemas but on the upside, it worked out okay. After I watched the movie on iTunes, I immidately bought the Blu-Ray and the Art of the Bad Guys book and they were both on sale! So that kind of lucky timing balances things out but make no mistake, if there's a sequel, I'm going striaght to the cinema.

I love the Bad Guys and thought it was an fun and enjoyable movie with a great cast of characters. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I honestly thought it was a animated movie from a another country and it shock me to find out that this was from Dreamworks! Because the animation styling for this movie reminds me of something I've seen in anime movies also shows or 3D animated movies from other Asian countries like Korea. When I saw it was from Dreamworks I was like " *WOW Dreamworks is mixing it up now huh* ", loving these animation studios being more creative and taking more risks in terms of stylization with the their animated movies now thanks to Spiderverse. But for real the Bad Guys is a good one and I'm excited to see its Christmas special soon.

Good commentary as always! I actually saw this in theaters and had a fun time with it. Just a fun simple but well structured and lovely to look at movie. I heard the director was inspired by Lupin III and yeah, it does feel like that

I think the animal testing facilities might be a reference to how governments of various countries (including the US) used prisoners and people admitted to things like asylums as test subjects without their consent or knowledge, which would be disproportionately people of color because they knew the people at the bottom of society they'd most likely be able to get away with doing it to

The Bad Guys is a rather predictable plot on paper, but I think what makes it shine so much is the character dynamics and synergy, when it comes to a very familiar plot and formula it's often down to whether the characters add a unique twist on HOW the script runs rather than just playing it word for word like a bland exposition piece, and I think the Bad Guys for the large part is very character driven, most of the exceptions being the points that are deliberately wooden and make fun of the cliches (another good failsafe, this film doesn't take itself too seriously, the characters are earnest enough to sympathise with but the atmosphere is still silly). I like how while Wolf gets the more clear cut arc, I feel like every key character gets some meaningful focus. Snake and Diane get the 'background' arcs where the culmination still makes you feel they are fairly developed despite spending a lot of time behind the curtains, Webs and Piranha aren't as developed but they're key supporting characters that get big sequences, while Shark is a key pivot to the other characters' arc (and also gets to be the big player of the Ruby mini cartoon). After the balancing issue with Kung Fu Panda which had a similar protagonist and five co stars setup, it feels like Dreamworks got a better handling of characterisation within brevity here. Marmalade I also think is a good twist villain simply because he's so transparent. They know we've seen this a million times before now. He's similar to Wreck It Ralph's twist villain where even when he's in his nicer facade, a lot of his arrogant personality still seeps in and makes it feel like we've watched a consistent character. The twist also happens fairly early so we can appreciate him as a full villain and foil to the protagonists.

I sadly didnt get to see this movie in theatres but i had a big tv and i enjoyed it. Movies like this reminds me of 70s kung fu and black politation movies. The animation is done well, they really play with the 3d and the squache and streacth blends well. Its a 10/10, Dreamworks is in a revival era.

i think it's a movie animation lovers should watch at least once. i enjoyed the characters and their dynamics, but the predictable storyline did fall a bit flat. the lack of commitment to a world with both anthro animals and humans also lessened my enjoyment a bit. the first thing that came to mind when seeing it was how much better bojack horseman did it. like come on all the missed background gag opportunities! it just was weird to see MASSIVE crowds of.. just.. humans. also, i forgot her name, but the cop woman. this is just a personal annoyance but GOD to i hate how she was animated like STOP MOVING FOR ONE SECOND CALM DOWN!! other than that the animation was beautiful! i love the style! i think the movie was a bit overhyped for me though. i was just disappointed when i watched it. i don't need a movie to be complex to enjoy it- i like plenty of simple movies! it just didn't click with me. i get the appeal though. wish i liked it more!

I like the movie but I freakin hate Diane Foxington. She treats Mr. Wolf's friends like a trash, she is a Mary Sue 100%, she is mean and soo selfish. Diane is as horrible as Hardin Scott, Junko Enoshima, Shredder, Marmalade and Norm the polar bear. Even William Afton, Dabi and Eric Cartman are not that bad like Diane. In Crystalverse: Diane was r*cist towards Laval from Chima, tried ruin Uraraka, tried to kill Mikey Hamato and Stan Marsh, h*rrased Amy Rose and Mikey and a*used Tails and Foxy Edit: This is why I ship Woluki
