I didn't cry but Ianto's death to me was one of those heartbreaks you can't get over it and his theme makes me feel that emptyness you feel when someone that you know deserved all the hapiness of the world gets his life stolen.

Out of all the fictional deaths and tragedies, none has affected me as badly as Ianto's needless killing - not Doomsday, the regeneration of the 10th doctor, Snape's memories of Lily or Sherlock's fall. Everything that's been left unsaid is just so utterly, heartbreakingly poignant.

I remember watching THAT scene and i was screaming at my TV and trying not to cry. He was dying and the only thing he was worried about wasn't that he was dying only that jack never forgot him. jack who acted like a total DICK to him through COE but Ianto still loved him. Everytime I see that scene i feel the tears in my eyes, Gareth's acting was flawless throughout his time in TW and I wish him all the best.

1:12 I love this song. The piano sounds like a ticking clock and is a great call back to Ianto's stop watch as well as his trademark reliability and quiet devotion. At this point in the song it's easy to hear since the melody dials down to show him beginning to fade away. It's tragic with how slow the notes are coming. It sounds like that reliable and much beloved watch is slowing down and then at 2:01 we hear it stop. The music then kicks back up without that ticking piano, the violin takes over that part like it's just a memory of what once was and the dissonant, heavy guitar and drums come in almost aggressively to show Jack's devastation at what he just lost. Damn this song is so good.

Haha, yes it is. I think the reason is because the characters are killed off in such a realistic way. I mean, their job is pretty dangerous and all. Its unlike many stories I've read, where there is an afterlife or at least their death is extremely heroic or surrounded by people they love. Here, there's just death to the people we've grown to love over seasons. Indeed, my grandfather passed away not too long ago, I didn't know how to comfort my mother. I wish I did know how at the time.

It was shit anyway, basically no one can die and at first they try and heal people but then they leave dead bodies in huge buildings and then burn them but Jack fixes it with two Americans and Gwen’s existence in the whole thing was entirely pointless as always. There were some flashbacks of a previous lover and then he sees the guy as an old man in a coma and says he would’ve liked Ianto. He says he probably would’ve been jealous. And then the guy dies and everyone’s like “woah how did that happen” but it’s never explained. There are a bunch of plot holes.

Ianto's death has definitely been the most depressing thing I have ever experienced in any work of fiction. This song doesn't do much to help. In fact, I'd say it makes it even worse.:( I really don't see how they're going to do a series 4. 3Three out of five are dead, one is gone, and the only one left is pregnant. Children of Earth was a great story and all, but I'd be more than ok with it being a dream sequence, or something.

I oficially hate RTD. He creates such great chars and ends up killing them without taking advantage of their potential. Ianto could have done so much more... He was the only person who really loved Jack. And Owen, king of the weevils and Weevils. They never really showed much more of the weevils besides that they are beasts living in sewers. Silly how one can get so attached to a fictional character. The human mind works in mysterious ways. Torchwood isn't going to be the same without Ianto. Though I am grateful to Russell T. Davies for bringing us the beauty that is Torchwood, I also resent his decision for killing off my favorite character. I keep having (false?) hope they will bring Ianto back. They promised us we'd see much more of Ianto Jones in CoE. Boy, that sure turned out to be a false promise... We want our teaboy back!

@doctorw2 true, they should have had a slightly larger group, because it was slightly necessary to kill people off, given that Torchwood is so dangerous and everyone says no one lives long, but even if they had kept the original number, what they should have done is brought a few more members in and let it go on for at least a full series or two before killing anyone off, letting characters develop. I agree, the series has stopped dead, unfortunately, by a brilliant plot but pointless death.

@doctorw2 i think in what they tried to do to possibly move the show forward has killed it, stopped it dead in its tracks. it was a brilliant move to have Tosh and Owen die at the same time, but a bad move to kill a well-loved character off in the very next season. It left them with only 2 of the original team members, so now they'd have to completely re-invent Torchwood. They should'nt have killed Ianto. the character should have grown more. and now we might not have a torchwood.

I say Gwen should have a miscarriage. If RTD wants "drama" then that should do nicely. And I didn't know he appeared in Sarah Jane, though I hardly ever watch it. Apparently they had an online poll, and about 70% of the people that voted in it said they wouldn't watch series four because it wouldn't have Ianto in it. You get to find out everyone`s story and they are all tragical and beautiful in a way. Well...what is beautiful is how they got over it and how they have changed their lives :)

You can't just bring a character back... it didn't work out for Owen, it won't work for anyone else. Death is essential to all stories, especially action and Sci-Fi, because if everyone lived, it would be boring! The risk isn't truly understood until someone dies. While I was very sad to see Ianto go, I think it was for the best.

Oh, please. Up until Children of Earth, the Jack/Ianto relationship was nothing but a series of sex jokes with Ianto's ONLY characteristic being that he's a play thing for Jack as a whole. He had no character depth outside of that. Tosh and Owen was a far more tragic scene since at least their relationship was well written and tragic.

I think it depends on the characters and writing you prefer. The End of Time never made me sad, to tell the truth, but I understand why others would find it so. The one thing that has made me depressed more than anything though, was Mass Effect 3. Dear Lord, the tears I cried. The weeks I spend wandering about like a zombie.

With all due respect (which, if I might say, is quite a bit,) The End of Time's ending was depressing. Doomsday was depressing. Last of the Time Lords was depressing. The Impossible Astronaut was, in some ways, depressing. The God Complex was depressing. While TATM was sad, I don't think depressing is the right word for it.
