My only problem with this movie is you don't get so much of Snow's inner thoughts. In the book, my boy is TWEAKING always. Bro is crazy and mean

She wasn't setting him up she just ran because she realized he was CRAZY 😭 It makes more sense in the book because his inner thoughts about her are vile. He had every chance to do the right thing but he chose power everytime. He's the villain in this movie too. Also he was totally hallucinating her singing at the end there. Remember he was bit by that snake?

gaul could have been behind it all...kgb style disappeared her and played the recording to mess with his mind...she wanted her protegee and successor...couldn't have him running off with his love...in the book, she had no idea he had the opp to leave her...she had no reason to mistrust him...remember, it's ALL snow's warped perception of what happened...maybe the next book we find out what really happened to her...

Mags games was the 11th a year after Lucy Gray and was on her games that they started doing arenas outside the Capitol, tributes parade and the first victory tour. Those eel mutts at the end were used on Mags games.

Y’all make it seem like he was Betrayed. He wasn’t “betrayed”, by someone he trusted. He endured a CONSEQUENCE, for his behavior. His “brother” who was rich yet his rich as family was taking care of Snow and his family. She same from the same poor people Snow looked down on, and set up the people who wanted to help for his own desires. She didn’t betray him, she stood on her character. That they never had in common.

I don't know if you read the book too and if that bled over into your view of the movie also. But what we seen in the movie is that he had some care for Lucy. Yes, we know a lot of what happened to were consequences of Snow's actions. We even threw in comments about how Snow was very controling and did things for selfishly for the betterment of himself. So we weren't justifying his actions all we were saying is that we understand his character and why he did certain things. To us, of course, he wasn't betrayed but thinking and knowing Snow, we believed he honestly did feel as though he was.

@@DaKidsReact yes as someone who's read the books you guys are spot on. He truly convinced himself that he was in love with Lucy gray but it was a lie, he never loved her he thought of her as property that he owned, a way to get a better life. He loved what she could potentially do for him, which is win the games or at the very least make the audience care about her. He did care about her at one point but when it really came down to it he chose himself instead

Sejanus wasnt the presidents son, his father was a weapons manufacturer. during the war his father invested in the capitol so many of his weapons were used particularly for the destruction of district 13. so whenever they won the war his family became one of the wealthiest in panem, which is why they were able to move to the capitol.

Man I wish we could've seen Snow's inner monologue bc he "puts up" with Sejanus but looks down on him and is insanely jealous that a district kid was doing better than him (likewise, to justify his attraction to Lucy, he clung to her explanation about how the covey originally wandered, so really she *wasn't * district, which is why he could have feelings for a person like her).

Nah, cus Snow is so disrespectful. In the books, when he returns to Panem, Sejanus' parents still recognize him as their son's best friend, and treat Snow like a son too, even helping him financially. 😭

My favourite theory about this movie is that Snow saw Sejanus in Katniss and Lucy Gray in Peeta. Katniss being so outspoken and passionate about how inhumane the hunger games are, her impulsive behaviour guided by her strong sense of justice, the defender of the weak stance... Everything points to the friend he had killed. Peeta on the other hand with his charisma and his way of working the crowd, but also his way of being always so unapologetically himself, so kind and empathetic... He reminded him of the girl who escaped his attempts of moulding her as he liked, exactly like Peeta did after the brainwashing.

I think he sees himself in katniss.
@stephisanidiot
@stephisanidiot 16 күн бұрын
@mo_munir3474 I disagree. Never once in his life did he sacrifice himself for someone else as katniss did, quite the opposite in fact. He hates her because she does everything he didn't have the courage to do. With every selfless act she does she's demonstrating you can survive even while caring for others, effectively calling him a coward for the choices he made and he hates that. Also she reminds him that everyone has a choice and it's your duty to do the right thing while he firmly believes (or at least he tries to convince himself, repeatedly, almost obsessively in the book) that he had no other choice but to sacrifice everyone around him to "survive". I think they couldn't be more different from each other.
@cindycastro8086
@cindycastro8086 10 күн бұрын
@@stephisanidiot I agree with you that he hates her for the reasons you stated, and you explain it very well too. However, their characters are so much more complex that we can't disregard their many similarities. I saw so many things in common with both Snow and Katniss. On Page 284 in TBOSAS it reads, "All right, so he'd dropped the handkerchief with Lucy Gray's scent [...] into the snake tank. [...] Because he cared about her. Because he cared about her? Or because he wanted her to win the Hunger Games so that he could secure the Plinth Prize?" (284). Here, Snow is seeing which option outweighs the other by asking himself if he cares about Lucy, or if he cares about the outcome (prize) more, similar to the way Katniss questions if she loves Peeta or if she's doing everything for her own benefit (she unintentionally can be selfish in the books, i.e. even haymitch tells her she could live 100 lifetimes and never deserve that boy). But along the way, Coriolanus is finding himself falling for Lucy Gray and Katniss is finding herself falling for Peeta. And Coriolanus wonders if the Plinth Prize means more to him, and Katniss wonders if a rebellion means more to her, but the Plinth prize and the rebellion together are clouded by their feelings for their lovers. To me, it makes the scene at the end of the first Hunger Games movie all the more intriguing when Snow crowns Katniss and says that her mother must be very proud of her and asks about the Mockingjay pin. Because 1) he sees himself in Katniss, 2) he sees a past lover (and hates her guts, therefore hates Katniss too), and 3) albeit Katniss and Snow have different values/storylines they go through similar struggles. Another parallel is if Snow persevered through his 'struggles' and 'moral dilemmas' and rose on top, what's stopping Katniss from doing the same? They both fight for what they think is right, and both land on top at different times in their lives. I think it's pure poetry that they couldn't be more different from each other as you said in your original comment, but there are so many intricate things that tie them together, and they could never focus on anything else besides each other. Snow even mentions that during their very last conversation: "I've been watching you, and you watching me. I'm afraid we've both been played for fools." It's the perfect most beautifully crafted juxtaposition I've seen in a long time, and you'd have to be slow to think otherwise.

Fun fact! If yu pay super close attention, you can actually see the scenario described in the song " The Hanging Tree". The execution taking place when Snow and Sejanus were guarding at when they first got to discrict 12... A man accused and found guilty of killing 3 people, right before he's meant to be hung a woman runs out of the crowd and he condemned man starts screaming for her to runaway aka flee, after he's executed the woman is captured and dragged away to be interrogated and execute herself, aka wearing a necklace of rope side by sode with ehr now dead and executed lover. In the scene after the first execution when Snow finds her singing in that field, we hear her writig "The Hanging Tree" song after having seen the execution the day beofre.

Like others said the movie portrays him in a more positive light and it comes across as him having more genuine feelings for her. In the book we're 100% in his head. He looks down on literally everyone. He even justifies his interest/attraction in Lucy as being okay because as covey (which basically were a traveling, nomadic culture before they were rounded up and trapped in district 12 by the peacekeepers) she's 'not really district'.

Lucy never planned to turn him in. Once he lied he broke her trust and she realized he was more dangerous than he thought. When they found the guns she realized she was the last loose end and thought he wouldn’t hesitate to kill her to ensure he stays safe and can go back to the life he wanted in the first place (he slipped up and told her he was about to leave if it wasn’t for killing those two people). She ends up vanishing like the girl in the song earlier. We never find out what happened to her, but she was never plotting on him. She was just trying to stay alive. Also, there’s a theory that Lucy’s cousin Maude Ivory is Katniss’s grandma which is how Katniss ends up knowing the Hanging Tree.

You guys catched so much nuance! A lot of people don't even notice the song. (The only correciton I have is that Sejanus was not the President's son. His dad sold weapons and made money off the war. The Capitol boy who died from the bombing was the President's son in the movie.) It's intentionally left unclear if Lucy Gray was trying to kill Coriolanus, and what happened to her. She might be out there, possibly in District 13. Or she might have died. We don't know. You know Snow saw Katniss through a distorted lens. She was pretending to be in love with Peeta in book 1 and Snow must've thought she was taking advantage of Peeta the way he thinks Lucy Gray betrayed him. He expected Katniss to turn on Peeta but she never did.

"It's the thing we love the most that destroy us" in the case of Coryo- Coriolanus Snow was power, that's what ultimately bring his own destruction in mockingjay part 2. You can't know this but in the books,even in the beginning he already was self centered and felt entitlement to the power and status sejanus fam had and snow family lost with the revolution. You guys thinking he was a product of his environment and almost used by lucy is what he want to make you believe , in his mind he sees her as nothing more than a "thing" to own and parade if it can help him or elevate him. The man is a master manipulator and a goddamm great villain Sorry for my English, it's not my first language but I really enjoy your HG reactions. Can't wait till next year for Haymitch story ❤

I'm lowkey obsessed with this book and movie. It's so complicated, and kinda messy as a book and movie, but I adore it so much. Snow is such an interesting character because when you dig into his psyche, he's starving physically, told his status was stolen by these lowly district people, molded by fascist propaganda. He spends the entire time desperate to stay on top--or rather, away from the bottom, low-key on the edge of a panic attack half the time. He sees all the flaws in the system but instead of seeing how awful it is, he decides to reinforce it and make it better. He never left survival mode ...but he's also an asshole.

The film’s biggest flaw, in my opinion, is its failure to provide insight into Snow’s inner monologue. Without access to his motives or thought processes, viewers are left to interpret his actions at face value-such as his gestures of friendship toward Sejanus or his apparent care for Lucy Gray. As relatively “normal” people, we’re inclined to see these actions as genuine, just as the characters around him likely do. This explains why his politeness and charm win the favour of those around him, aside from a select few who can see through his façade. However, because we know who Snow ultimately becomes, there’s always an unsettling sense that something more sinister may be at play. The books, however, paint a far clearer picture of Snow as cold, calculating, paranoid, egotistical, possessive, controlling, and judgmental. They delve into the factors that shaped him-his childhood trauma, exposure to propaganda, and perhaps even inherited traits from his father. Every decision he makes is meticulously calculated to serve his own interests. What he believes to be love for Lucy Gray is, in reality, a desire to possess and control her. His “friendship” with Sejanus is equally self-serving; he privately disdains Sejanus and his family while pretending to be a loyal friend, all to gain favour and benefit from their power and wealth. The only people he seems to care for genuinely are Tigress and possibly Grandma’am, but even this could be tied to his sense of duty as the head of the household, upholding the Snow legacy and elevating his family’s status. To clarify: Snow didn’t become evil because of some lost love or because of Lucy’s supposed betrayal. He was already independently on that path. His interpretation of Lucy’s actions as betrayal stemmed from his entitlement toward her and his general mistrust and paranoia. Snow believes she’s trying to kill him, but it’s far more likely that Lucy realised the truth-that the person she planned to run away with was lying to her and likely responsible for the death of someone he called a “brother.” Alone together in a situation with a heap of weapons, Lucy, as the only “loose end” who could expose Snow’s crime, had every reason to fear for her life. Her decision to “dip out” is entirely reasonable under the circumstances. Lucy didn't destroy him; Lucy wasn't a snake. His fragile ego couldn't handle being held accountable, couldn't handle being rejected by someone he believed was inherently under him - and he held onto it, let it fester in resentment, which played out later on with his hatred for District 12 and Katniss. Anyway - I've enjoyed all your reactions to this series! Keep it up.

hoping the next book reveals that lucy gray was KGB'd by dr. gaul's agents to get her out of the way and make sure coriolanus made it back to the capitol...in the book, she had no idea about his opportunity to go to district two and leave her and she probably would have encouraged him to do it...she had no reason to mistrust snow and probably thought he had a good reason to not tell her who the third person he killed was...it was all HIS warped perspective...it would be so sad if she was just disappeared by gaul and snow discovered after his years of evil it was all based on a lie by dr. gaul...that lucy gray was on her way to the cabin to tell him they needed to go back together to district 12 and gaul's agents kidnapped her before she made it...stalin and the gulag archipalago...just sayin!

I still hate Snow but I completely understand him throwing his boy under the bus. They legit just imprisoned a woman who was associated with a murderer. He doesn't even consider that Snow could be caught up as well if he was caught. If I remember correctly from the books, the ONLY reason why Sejanus wasn't saved for what he was doing in 12 was because he was of legal age and the Peacekeepers didn't need to contact his family compared to when he was in school. Snow, even with all the things he did to help the capital with the games was quickly punished for helping Lucy Gray. Sejanus CHOOSE to leave the capital; he wasn't punished for anything that he did. Yes, he was a good person trying to do the right thing, but he was reckless and privileged like their classmates.
