This movie was a bit of fun but total fiction. Mel Gibson went through a phase of making fictional movies hating on the English, twisting history into distorted fiction to push an "English are bad" narrative. Literally none of this ever happened.

While this film is a great story, it takes wild liberties with the facts. This much is certainly true, William Wallace was a martyr to the Scottish cause and remains a revered man to this day in Scotland. Robert the Bruce is likewise, both as a warrior and king revered, it's up to the individual to decide whether or not he's worthy. However, it should be remembered we are far removed from that time and place wherein both Wallace and the Bruce lived, fought and died. That's all I have to say about that.

55:54 I can't find the right words to describe exactly what needs to be said concerning this reaction's conclusion at the end, but I will try my best. The lack of trust you both voice for _Robert the Bruce_ is obviously right and good given the film's context, but the _unnecessary divide and lack of forgiveness_ voiced at the time-stamp is exactly what William was fighting against and which was coming from Scotland's squabbling, greedy nobles throughout the film. This does not mean I believe that either the both of you or Wallace should change and become compromising with your trust at random (this would be hypocritical of me if I thought that), but instead that you should still be willing to build trust whenever forgiveness and redemption is truly and honestly sought by anyone. We ALL need forgiveness, mercy, grace and longsuffering in this life, and NONE of us can perfectly say how we ought to assign blame (if ever). I truly LOVED this video, guys. It means more than you can ever know. Thank you.❤️🤝

Mel Gibson is the man! Braveheart is one of the greatest epics in film history. The acting is top notch. The cinematography is stunning. James Horners score is one of the most beautiful and harrowing movie soundtracks ever composed. William Wallaces speech to the Scots is possibly the greatest, most inspirational war time speech ever written and performed for a motion picture. Personally, i think Braveheart is the greatest Medieval war movie ever made.

You guys liked The Shining: try Barry Lyndon (by the same director- Stanley Kubrick). I, personally, consider it his masterpiece. Evidence suggests he may have as well as his name in the credits was on the screen for much longer than any of his other films.

Mel also did a history based tragedy called Gallipoli back when he was younger and still had the aussie accent. Once again it was a perfect setting to have the British be antagonists in some regards.

You should watch Outlaw King. It’s kind of an unofficial sequel to this. Robert Bruce is the focus. I thought it was excellent.

Bruce is our Opp rn so we really have to think about it🤣

They made Bruce look really bad in this for whatever reason. Outlaw king is more historically accurate. You’ll enjoy. Braveheart is an amazing movie, but it’s basically fantasy.
@DavidEllis947 сағат бұрын
You should give Outlaw King a watch. It's about Robert the Bruce and his rebellion against the English after Wallace's death. Awesome movie, and probably the most authentic depiction of early 14th century Britain in any film right now.

Isn’t this movie famously known for being historically inaccurate though? I mean.. real history as far as yes there was a William Wallace who fought for his peoples freedom… but that’s essentially as far as it goes with regard to “real history”

This is a very realistic view of rebellions. When you decide to fight against rulers and govs, your excepting the fact that your doing it for future generations. Your world is going to be flipped and may not get better till after your gone, that's the sacrifice you make for it.
