A few years ago i decided to educate myself on History rather than listen to the version we where taught in English schools and make my own mind up with my findings. Iv come to the conclusion that its no wonder the Irish Catholics hate the British Government and who can blame them for the way they have been treated like shite over the years ???

Depends which books you read the Irish Catholics were not Saints. Nuns putting over 200 children into a shit tip. The Catholic Church bringing wanted SS into Ireland with false papers. You need to read more books. The United Irish put 100 Protestant women and children into a house and burnt them to death. 72 IRA taken from jail and executed.by the Irish. 10 IRA tied together in a circle and a land mine detonated killing all but one that told the story. Its all in the books pal.

If you know history you should know that it was Irish Catholics that helped push Irish peasants of the land during the famine, Irish Catholics that suppressed both the 1798 Rebellion and the 1948 Fenian uprising , the Irish constabulary gaining the 'Royal' prefix for doing it, it was Irish Catholics that locked out Catholic workers during the Dublin lockout, after the establishment of the Irish free state it was Irish Catholics that overseen massive slum housing and poverty in Ireland and its Irish Catholics that have caused thousand of Irish people to be homeless in Ireland due to pure greed, the IRA killed more Catholics than anyone else in Ireland. It does not take the English or British to mistreat the Irish we are good enough to do that on our own, besides the English dont treat their own much better either.

I was there on August 9. The reality is it was totally unexpected and tragic.Fr. Mullen being shot emphasized that everything that had transpired that evening was 'out of sorts'. Fr. Mullan was a gentle soul. There was no sense of what the Catholic Community was about! Let's remember that in 1969 these same British Soldiers came to PROTECT US. Now.....50 years later the families of the Ballymurphy Massacre are heroes. Their resiliency and courage to honor their families is unbelievable and to be admired on every level. Amazing.Thank you. Internment was and has been exposed as a total failure of everything the British Legal System stood for. Having said that the success of our children.......is unmatched worldwide, The education and drive from our families from 1970 to today is a symbol around the world to societies that you can succeed. There are still problems but they are social problems ------- not issues of prejudice, bias and inequality that have existed for 100 plus years.

We know a little about not wanting Britain ruling us, but with freedom of religion that started way back in our country's beginning its a problem thats really deep rooted, in Ireland. I know this, if im living somewhere that the high majority overall does not want me there, id move for my safety and my family's safety. Its time for the norther irish to either crap or get off the pot. if you consider yourself a TRUE irishman, then stay and vote that way. if your a fake irishman,(a loyalist), and you want to be with Britain, then GET THE HELL OUT AND GIVE THE TRUE IRISH THEIR HOME!

Mate the vast majority people living on the island of Ireland have exactly the same blood and DNA as the majority of people in GB. Over 25% of people living in England their ancestors were born in Ireland(ROI), 10% of people living in England and most were born in England today like me have Irish(ROI) born Grandparents most are still alive and living in Ireland(ROI). Theres actually more people with Irish(ROI) born Grandparents living in England today than there is in Ireland(ROI). Everybody who is born on the island of Ireland has the right to live, work and study in GB and has exactly the same rights as British people but this might change because of EU rules/laws. Over 40% of the people who identify themselves as Irish in Northern Ireland not British or Loyalists voted for NI to stay part of the UK. Nobody ever mentions these facts. ROI = Republic of Ireland.

Retired British Army general Sir Geoffrey Howlett, 89, today told families of the victims of the Ballymurphy massacre he had 'enormous sympathy' with them at an inquest investigating the killings of 10 people in west Belfast in August 1971 A retired British Army general has expressed 'enormous sympathy' with families whose relatives died in the Ballymurphy massacre in 1971 during The Troubles. 10 Catholics were shot and killed by British paratroopers in west Belfast over three days in August 1971 in disputed circumstances, with the victims initially said to be members of the IRA. But General Sir Geoffrey Howlett, 89, who was a lieutenant colonel in the Parachute Regiment at the time, today told an inquest he acknowledged most of those killed were innocent.

Did you feel the adrenaline in that hostile environment ? Were you a Para walking the streets with acid bombs and buckets of urine getting dropped on you ? I guess not because . Well a couple of days before Blooody Sunday 2 RUC were brutally murdered by the ira. And in 1971 3 young Scottish soldiers were lured from a pub in Belfast by some women , taken to a house were the ira were waiting , these soldiers , 2 of them brothers were taken to a secluded hill in Belfast and shot through the head. I do not think it was right that innocent civilians were killed on Bloody Sunday . But if I was a young Para in that situation , I would make sure that no coward was going to kill me with a petrol bomb , or a brick , my survival would be number one and the survival of my team . If I was a Para I would be making sure that I was not going to be a victim of a republican mob or a republican sniper........It was a battle .I think you served , probably on the girl scouts , because you seem to be living in a girly fantasy land mate ...And next time ...use punctuation , you did go to school didn't you ?

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. The British Paras involved here are specifically picked for their role in battle. i.e.- if someone fires a gun at you - you reciprocate and kill them to save yourself (it's not nice to have someone shooting at you!). I've watched the old news videos - and there was some fire power put down on the Taggert Hall in Ballymurphy that day by whoever - it's acceptable in one's mindset that as sad as it is - innocent lives will be lost. Innocent lives were lost in this case - it's just a sad story. But I don't think that the world believes that the British Army Paras went out deliberately to wantonly kill civillians. It happened a long time ago - my thoughts now are with the families that suffered lost ones.

This might change you mind "A former paratrooper has described as “psychopaths” some soldiers based alongside him in West Belfast during the Ballymurphy Massacre. Soldier M597, who was a member of A Company, broke down in tears on Monday as he said that “rogue soldiers” were “out of control” and “shot innocent people”. He said he was in the Henry Taggart army base shortly after an incident in which four people were fatally shot. He wept briefly as he described seeing three or four bodies in the hall and recalled what the soldiers there told him had happened. He said the soldiers were on a high, excited and had clearly enjoyed what they had done. He said they told him that B Company officers had lost control and told soldiers that the army would give them cover for whatever they had done. M597 said they felt they could “shoot anything that gets in the way.” “It was a joke to them,” he added. Last week, the inquest heard a claim that soldiers held a sweepstake on who would kill a gunman first. As he was about to leave the court M597 told the Ballymurphy families that the claims were false. “I am truly sorry for any part I played in this and I would like you to leave here not believing what (Henry) Gow told you last week, because it’s not true. I’d hate for you guys to go through the rest of your life thinking that - it’s just not true.”

@@charlesbukowski9836 😂😂😂 Bro, my wife is Irish and we holiday in Co. Kerry at least once a year. I’ve had this conversation in many pubs. But hey, you ‘Lutherans’ keep on keeping on telling everyone else how they should believe their own family history 🤦🏻‍♂️

Terrorists blowing up soldiers - that's war. Soldiers blowing away civilians (from what I heard from the inquest, for fun) - that is more documentary, feature film worthy, dont you think?

I am not saying it was right, on the contrary, do you see why the paras might have been targeted, given Ballymurphy and Bloody Sunday? Only a few years later especially after no justice was served? Catholics in northern Ireland had no police force. The army was suppose to bring justice, it was suppose to up hold the law where the RUC were ignoring and colluding with the UVF and UDA. In many cases it did the opposite, it made it worse and filled the ranks of the IRA

At the Ballymurphy inquest the coroner heard submissions on the issue of future military witnesses at the inquest. Seven former soldiers called to give evidence have applied for anonymity and screening during proceedings. Another soldier appeared under such conditions at the inquest in 2018, although relatives of the man he admitted shooting, Edward Doherty, were permitted to see his face while he gave evidence.
